  • thx guys i just got a trumpet for christmas well early one and this helped alot!

  • hey ive never played the trumpet but have always wanted to. my Granddad has a bugle and i want to learn how to play it is it like the trumpet and do u have any advise??????

  • @jalen77232 The trumpet and the bugle are about the same as a single-speed bicycle vs. a ten-speed. The bugle is simply a curved pipe and can only produce certain notes, namely, G and D. A trumpet has valves which enable you to play all other notes. Having said that, you *can* use a bugle for basic mechanics, like embouchure practice...in other words, how to purse your lips to make them buzz, producing sound. Once you get that down, do bugle calls until you can get that trumpet.

  • whats' the name of that solo in the beginning?

  • blow the paper off you bastard!! sir yes sir!!!!!!

  • for a starter trumpet, and former tuba player this really helped me. thank you :)

  • Poor dude which has to breath all the time

  • "remember, it's the sound not the look" explains those uniforms!

Thanks for the tips guys. :-)

  • g i got a trumpet but i cant play

  • excellent

  • I got a trumpet literally 25 minutes ago.

  • i hope the guy who was demonstrating breathing got paid his fair amount... fuck all...

  • @EwanMcGreggor Breathing is a very important thing with trumpet. If you don't breathe it won't make a good tone at all, and it may have serious health risks unrelated to the trumpet.

  • @EwanMcGreggor Breathing is a very important thing with trumpet. If you don't breathe it won't make a good tone at all, and it may have serious health risks unrelated to the trumpet.

  • @themeleed Breathing isnt that important; i find breathing to be a very optional thing in life

  • getting a trumpet thursday going in jr high band :D

  • Awesome info! I wish this would have been available for me when I was first starting out. It would have saved a lot development problems.

  • I have been playing trumpet for 17 years and think this is a great vid for someone who may not know anything about playing. A lot of people think that we 'hum' into the horn to make the sound. I think these guys are doing a good thing here...plus, they have some great tones!

  • press 1 until he says fuck all then hold down 5

  • What do I do.

  • I've played for 8yrs. And have always had endurance problems. What do I do? And I do Arbans and private lessons and breath properly.

  • Great vid sir. So playing the trump is good people with ashtmah?

  • @Runrome Yep! Which is why I've brought one and am starting to learn. That and I love Ska

  • Great tips guys. keep up the good work.

  • I press the trumpet too hard against my lips, so it makes a ring around my lips. When I don't do this and the mouthpeice isn't pressing against my lips, no sound comes out. Help!

  • @Ignorance96 what you need to do is practice long tones. take a little bit of pressure off your lips each time and do your best to get a full sound. if you adjust the pressure too much you will have that problem with no sound. just take a little off each time and keep trying. you'll get it eventually!!!

  • Army trumpeter... that never occured to me as a career.

Kind of makes me regret quitting.

  • 吹樂器可以很有趣但可能很難很沮喪

    呼吸自然自動吹樂器呼吸很重要

    吹奏時維持呼吸 自然且簡單呼吸是關鍵

    Just translate for my friends,THX.

  • @wantzucheng Wind instrument can be fun but can be difficult to be depressed

  • 5 people play the viola

  • 5 people are flutes

  • I started playing trumpet about four days ago. I have learned three songs and have been able to pick out a few others. I am haveing a hard time making all the notes clear when I switch from one to another. Could you give me some pointers on how to fix this. Also I am haveing a hard time hitting high E is it just soon soon to be able to do that becuase I have not devloped my whole range yet?

  • @hisinstrument18 Give yourself a break. 4 Days?

! It is normal to have that difference in pressure between pitches . Here is another trick: Think eee for higher notes and ah for lower notes.

Breathing is still the number one factor that is overlooked and practising long notes may be boring but are really helpful for everything discussed in this video.

Keep up the good work and have fun!

  • left right left right left right left right left right left right left right left right left right

  • My lower lip, when playing trumpet, protrudes too much to the front, arching and ugly showing the portion in red, which in normal position (when the lips are closed) was just under the top lip and was not seen, but at the time of pushing into the mouthpiece sticks out, making a turn out of about 90 degrees, and takes actually a vertical position in front of my face. that badly influences a vibration of the lips.

Possibly you could recommend some kind of an exercise known to you to prevent that?

  • @yujinls Maybe you could post a video. It is something we have to see. If your mouthpiece is too small, perhaps, or you need to strengthen your facial muscles (start by playing a lot of long notes.) Good luck.

  • 1:22 thanks bro, for a second there i forgot how to breath

  • @shity43 haha I think he was trying to make a point that breathing is only in or out... without holding it in between.

  • me encanta tocar la trompeta

  • A very useful video for many with some good advice and great playing. I'm a little worried though as I play with most of the techniques it says are wrong!

  • 215thArmyBand's videos are much better than ExpertVillage.

  • Your tone is exquisite.

You guys are like a gift from God. I have really been struggling with embouchure.

I could get a C, but couldn't keep the pitch truly even. One viewing of your video, and I was cured....the problem was holding the breath,

I can't thank you enough for this series.

Whoever made this become a reality was a real visionary, and you are doing a fantastic public service.

My promise to you, is to use your advice, daily.

Thanks so much, from the bottom of my heart.

  • I've been playing the trumpet for about 3 or 4 months now and we are getting ready to do our first concert at school... I hope we sound as good as you....

  • Great Instructional Video -

I welcome all trumpet players and students ( come-back players and pros too ) and currently I am accepting new trumpet students.

  • I Was Havin Huge Problems With The Trumpet's Embrouchure But Now Its Clear To Me

    Thankyou

  • i wish i played the trumpet...

  • 4 are woodwinds

  • Yeah trumpet!

  • U cant move your soulders.

  • i first watched this, and thought, why is colonel clink playing the trumpet? then, i saw, it's the 215th army band. respect.

  • @1:22 that man is clearly breathing in is chest...

  • IKR... I've been playing the Trumpet since the 7th grade and I'm a senoir now..and my new teacher is telling me I play with too much bottom lip..Which is the reason why I have problems playing High.he says... But I'm slowly I repeat slowly getting used to the embouchure...but I hear improvement.. GReat Video..

  • @gaffery1 your teacher is WRONG, look at Wynton Marsalis and tell me if he has problems playing high. I've heard him play quite a few double C's.........if more bottom lip is right for you, stick with it, don't change just because someone thinks it doesn't look right.

There is a wealth of info on the net about embouchres, you should spend some time researching before you change. My guess is you aren't playing high because something youre doing (habit you've developed) is keeping you from it

  • My teacher showed this to me

  • i have been playing trumpet for 5 years, and now my trumpet teacher is having me fix my embroshure because my lips were completely wrong, i just tried this meathod and i am getting used to it, THANK YOU!!! it is helping ALOT!!!

  • @TheScreaminTrumpet Dude TOTALLY same thing here!I played trumpet for 5 years too and now he is saying that my throat is closed and air too compressed and lips too tight.

  • Good job!!

  • gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllhhhhhhhhh

  • what is the name of that song that you play in ther very beginning?

  • Thank you so freaking much, 215thArmyBand. My 2 problems I have with mt trumpet is getting my pitch high for the G note (Even though I know G, C, D, E, and F right now) and sometimes I make crappy tones. This will help me alot. I can't say how much I thank you.

  • wow. beautiful warm sound. the lessons helped me very much. i did the air exercises for a view weeks and my trumpet sound gets warmer and i can player higher now.

  • where can I buy the DVD?

  • where can I buy the DVD.. Great lessons. Thanks

  • WHAT THE FUUU???those are MARINES!!

  • @HumanityAssassin23 I assure you, they're US Army field band, their band uniforms look very similar to the Marine Corps dress blues, however, musicians in the USMC band wear a red uniform.

  • @nintendork121 danngg... i didn't know that! that is cool :)

  • @nintendork121 - Only The President's Own and Commandant's Own wear Red & White's

  • Comment removed

  • @trumpetface thank you for the correction! :) I appreciate it haha!

  • Hahahahahah!!!!!

  • i'm a saxophone, but i'm trying to teach myself trumpet so i can continue marching band in college! (:

  • I have been playing trumpet for 3 years. For some reason I cannot seem to get the proper mouth position. No matter how I shape my lips I always seem to have a muddy tone. When I do have a decent sound A'lot of air comes through the bell. Any ideas of what may solve thi. I have tried 3c and 7c mouthpieces.

  • @BCCHSMD A better tone can be produced by avid use of long tones, pedal tones

(notes below F#), a more "free" vibration, horse flapping before playing to stimulate blood flow, and listening to recordings to get a better feel for what your want your tone to sound like - your tone is a very personal thing and takes TIME and PRACTICE to develop.

    Hope that helps.

  • I bought a trumpet less than an hour ago. I have been practising on just mouthpierce(7C)for a little while, I have been taking help from youtube videos, I got home and thought I would have another look before approaching the instrument, the first that came up was yours, extrememly useful, the best I have seen yet, Will definitly take your advice as I think the approach first class.

    Thanks

    Barrie

  • i feel mins 7:00 onwards is the most importatn

  • Haha Creeper Mouth Breather

  • I like your tone quality. I am a trumpet player, but I seldom practice, How can I improve my tone quality and my toquing. What practices should I do?. Thanx...( ^_^)

  • omfg i laughed so hard at 7:20 XD

  • i've been playing trumpet for 3 years and pressing the mouthpiece too much and too hard againts my lips becomes my habbit since..... do i have a chance to change and correct that sir..???

  • @robinorbita yes what you want to do is put the trumpet on your lips as lightly as possible, and play for about a minute without pulling it back on your lips harder and increase the time gradually until you can play for a whole practice section without the instrument killing you rlips. (hint, ive always noticed that when people put too much pressure their lips turn white when the mouthpiece comes off, so practice in front of a mirror.

  • thank

  • whats the solo he's playing in the beginning?

  • @MLGcinamin53 boring.

  • Did the Trumpet Picture At :5 Have 4 Valve's!?

  • lol , the person demonstrating must feel like a dumbass . but anyway , this is cool . i hope this helps me improve . thnx guys . :D

  • o man i was in my own world cuz his trumpet skills are good then BAMMMM his voice hitted me at :47 xD

  • Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.

  • look so tried for me

  • what a good tip "air in air out ." who is the Cristobal Colon there?

  • As you were!

  • Pllz someone tell me the website where you can listen to other peoples trumpet music and comment, and post your own and get feedback.

  • Hi 215th I need help on my embouchure and buzzing. It's weak. How can I make it stronger?

  • @Huskyowner2007 honestly the only way for your embouchure to get stronger is to practice. i recommend HL Clarke's technical studies, it's a great book to work on lip and breath support especially in the upper register. When you've gone through a few exercises, you should feel yourself having a stronger embouchure but it takes time so practice practice practice!

  • @MLGcinamin53 Cool thanks will do

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for the Post

  • Takes one to know one.

  • thanx !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the tips

  • Dios te bendiga carnal esto sera de mucha ayuda para mi ya haci falta algo enserio en youtube no puras tonterias jajaja gracias

God bless you men this will be very useful for me and to lack something like this in youtube, not only stupid thinks thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • try just blowing air through the trumpet first, then play. something that has helped me get better at the trumpet is listening to professional trumpet players and trying to copy thier sound.

  • I having issues with the breathing. I always hold my breath when I play and it's really difficult to stop. Can somebody give me some more tips. It's really fusturating!!!

  • try playing a piece you play in band or wherever you play and when theirs a rest try breathing very close to the next note... give yourself enough time to get a full breath but just little enough so you dont have a chance to hold it. you could also try just breathing in then lightly breathing out before you start playing to keep you from holding your breath and keep some air moving ... just a few thoughts

  • I would suggest doing some exercises. Get a metronome and set it at a slow tempo... maybe 60bpm. Breath in 4 counts and out 4, and then do that for a while. Then when you do that, go in 4 out 8. then in 4 out 16, then in 4 out 20. Then try in 2 out 4, in 2 out 8 etc. Do EACH many times at a slow tempo. a lightheaded feeling may occur, that's normal, just take some heavy sighs and you'll feel fine again.

  • breathe one or two beats before you begin to play depending on how much air you wanna take in

  • i luv the trumpet this is my 2nd year and i have all region try outs this year!!!!!! =S wish me luck my music is pretty hard im still working on getting that G above the staff a and Bb

  • Wat? o_o.. I've been going at the trumpet for 3 months and I can hit the F below that G. Have you made sure to do several lip slur exercise and lots of practice? (And when I say F I mean with good sound, I can hit the G but it's really pinched.)

  • no worries dood, i've been playing for about 14 years, and i started playing above the staff at about year 2 and a half. You'll be hitting that C before you know it.

  • i love the trumpet.

  • I really appreciate the 215th army band for posting this clip. This is very good material for someone just starting out. Thank you very much.

  • to warm up try flappin ur lips like a rasp berry :) itll help for when you want to blow high notes

  • A brass trumpet, tarnished an tinged, can make the most beautiful music if the musician has a love and passion for the art...gold or platinum plating does not, a good trumpet, make.

  • The only thing it needs is HD, Other than that, it's great!

  • Thanks for the pix of the ring with lips somewhat apart,,.

  • cool instument

    i play it

  • You are in good company. The angels in heaven also play trumpets.

  • @nononononone me too

  • @nononononone same buddy....

  • yes. there are trumpet lessons. i need them so badly. im not very good at it but im still learning

  • When did Dan Akroyd start playing trumpet?

  • thanks!!

  • The best trumpet lessons video from youtube. Great job!!

  • thank you very much for all the lessons!!

  • Exact embouchure positioning is an entirely personal matter. Usually, it's about 50-50 but some do better with a little more on the top lip or bottom. Arban might've said 2/3's on bottom but Harry James said 2/3's on top, and Harry also said "but the opposite has often has excellent results as well."

  • hola soy de chile y quiziera si me pudueras subtitulatr el video porfa

    gracias

  • ..in Italiano......uffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

    there aren't subtitles????:-(

  • I just love the trumpet including the french horn.... Thanks for posting this video!

  • i play both :)

  • who could help me to find subtitles of these classses, cause I don't perfectly understand the spoken american

  • great lesson. I was gonna learn how to play but I heard it takes months to develop an embouchure

  • it doesnt really it just depends on how often you practice

  • you suggest I should buy a mouthpiece first and practice? I amost have perfect pitch and I already know how to play several instruments

  • Having perfect pitch will help you play later on but it has nearly NOTHING to do with developing a decent embouchure on a brass mouthpiece. Sorry. It's proper technique and LOTS of practice.

  • I'm gonna take lessons. It won't take me that long to learn it.

  • Yeah, if you procrastinate. I just scored mine about 2 days ago and I can already play taps on it. Not hard at all. I am not very fast when it comes to changing notes but its getting there.

  • Not the look? hehe

  • thanx for video

  • Does anybody else disagree with the symmetrical embouchure? The embouchure is traditionally supposed to be 2/3 lower lip, 1/3 upper lip (recently made the switch from 50-50 to that, improved my sound a lot)

    Otherwise, Grade A video.

  • Actually there is no correct way. It actually varies from player to player. I use the 2/3 lower 1/3 upper, but if you notice, Jon Faddis even plays a little to the side, but he still plays phenomenally. They just want to incorporate a textbook embouchure for their own purpose.

  • Arban sad 1/3 upper as well. Clarke sad 50% on both , but not many play with 2/3 upper I think,,, I havent seen any with that playing good...

  • Very clear language and great technique on teaching the trumpet. Amazing! Congrats to Army ppl. Brazil trumpetist.

  • you should do a clarinet video.

  • Breathe in, blow, press buttons. job done.

  • hahaha

  • wow that was amazing.

  • I thought These Army Guys are War Machines, Now I know That there is a friendly side

  • Holly wood does a crappy portrayal unfortunately.

  • Nice work guys!

  • that "how to" thing just blew my mind, and i am a guitar player!

    this is pretty awesome

  • do u have any tips for vibrato and how to do it

  • i like that "how to" breathing thing

  • can someone traslate to spanish this videos?

    pleasee!

  • this works for trombone? where can i find something for trombone?

  • This works for trombone as well, there is no difference as this is valid for all brass instruments. This is very good, thanx!

  • great video man. however i just want to ask you a question though, im new at trumpet playing and already, the tuning slide of my horn is kinda stuck man i didn't know what happened or what i did wrong but it just got stuck, do you have any tips in loosening it or do i need to buy a new one? thanks in advance man. keep it coming man.

  • you should take your trumpet to your local music store to see if they can get it out. then grease the the tuning slide with slide(not valve) oil. periodically grease your slide every month or so.

  • thanks man. im really new at this. but what happens if its greased with valve oil? will it be stuck eventually or something?

  • valve oil is too thin for greasing. it'll dry and make the tuning slide as stuck as it was before.

  • thanks again for the tip man.

  • a cheaper way that will also work is that you could get like some sort of grease from around the house and use that, but make sure that it isn't something that you use for cooking though

  • Get a little jar of Vasoline. It's the best thing for slides and one jar will last you many many years. I've been playing 50 years and NEVER had a slide I couldn't remove when I wanted to.

  • are you 60 years old now? or a lil bit older? it's cool, i wish i was there so you can teach me

  • Use vasoline. It's cheap (small jar lasts forever)....and keep the horn clean.

  • this video really helps! finally!

  • 15,000 view :)))

  • when i play my throat closes up and buzzes...ny techniques for me?

  • I really need help too.

The most difficult part for me is playing high notes and 16th notes. This video is helpful, but I feel like I need a little more help.

  • I'm pretty good with the trumpet, althought I rarely practice. when I was young, I damaged my teeth and now I have a gap. Could that be affecting my embochure?
