The same way the atmosphere "interacts" with the sun to produce vivid sunsets. It's just light illuminating a thick trail of particles in the sky. Since they're high up, they are the only obvious things when the sun is really low on the horizon or below the horizon.

Could be a similar source, i.e. a missile. The "bubble cloud" picture is a long exposure which basically means it didn't exactly look like that to the naked eye, but that what you're seeing is more or less a trail over time. But there is a similar video of a missile supposedly in the U.S. creating a cloud of visible particles in the night sky. The plume looked similar to that.

Theres quite a few videos on youtube of these 'wormhole' type things - Anyone heard of a 'scramjet'? It's new military technology - theres a video lurking somewhere of a small scramjet being test on the ground, and it gives off a strange blue pulse, very much like the effect seen in this video! I can only speculate - but that effect would appear if a scramjet was in the upper atmosphere.
