  • Doesn't this news reporter remind you of Tom Duboi lol

  • up to NAS.

  • This is bullshit... Nas is right. Al Pacino spawns more violence, drugs, and gang violence than anything Nas could ever say. Check out his Colbert interview to hear someone who is not a media puppet interview Nas. I can definitely picture Don Lemon bumpin Nas on his way home from work.

  • They will never let him live that "Shoot em Up" song down huh.

Everytime I've ever seen Nas on the news they're like " we have Nas here with us, but first here's Shoot Em Up".

That shit came out in 1999! You realize he has like 10 albums right? They alsways gotta play the most violent song he's done.

How about they introduce him by playing I Can, Thugs Mansion, If I Ruled the World etc.

  • Comment removed

  • since when is violence and murder new to society? seeing the country thats listening to him talk about it built itself out of it.... from the moment modern man touched down here all we did was rape, pillage, murder, enslave, genocide, need i go on?

  • Can somebody direct me to a current rapper who doesn't do any of the following: boasting, glorifying violence, talk about how rich/badass/awesome they are, have videos displaying fine women, expensive cars & riches. Use the N word in song titles and or in lyrics. Have some songs which "diss" other rappers (SUPER MATURE...super....did I mention how mature that is?)

  • DL Incognito, hes from canada.....really talented.

  • immortal technique

  • I listened to one of his songs....too bad it's N...a Ni..a Nig.a left and right. The N word is a 1 dimensional crutch that tends to drag maturity & intelligence OUT of a song and reduces themes to primitives. Can no current rapper get a story/message across without using the N word? I'd love to see an entire album without using the N word. Then maybe I'd listen. This is the kind of stuff I respect: search YT for

"pete rock & cl smooth they reminisce over you"

  • Chamillionaire's "Ultimate Victory" is curse-free ...

  • nigga PLEASE.

  • nas is full of shit

  • "Shoot-em up, kill kill kill, murder murder murder".....he sounds like he's promoting murder to me. I guess he's a bit of a hypocrite though since he's not in prison for murder...stupid christians

  • So we gonna act like the Untitled album doesn't exist?

Why the hell do news stations always use "Shoot 'em Up" to try and make a point? Nas got mad positive joints that these dumb ass reporters stay skippin' over.

  • This is the biggest piece of crap interview. Rap artist need to hold themselves accountable for their actions and the music they produce.

  • This interview doesn't make much sense to me. He's talking about how 'violence is the law of the land'? So why do some neighborhoods not 'abide' by that 'law' ? Also addressing people as young "warriors" probably isn't the best.

  • This boy Nas is the Truth 4 REAL Forget all yall opinions Nas could assist in ending black on black violence he really talks about our history as a people. To me he is compared to Cornell West and Michael Eric Dyson because he been in the streets on top of studied history and knows what life is like JUST LISTEN to the boys songs...The black mans plight, germans, ancient history..Come on!!!!! This boy is the truth!!!!!!!

  • "Them alphabet boys still plotted to get me... Hush me up and stuff me in the pockets of history.... U won't remember why they came to clip me, when time go by you'll soon 4get me... They say he was the king of jewels and bentley's... Then they'll use one of my lines just to prove I'm guilty"

    "Don't let em kill me!"

  • nas is a good person, moreso than most entertainers in hip hop. i wish the interviewers questions were better.. i have been disappointed that nas does have some mainstream songs/cameos that are hella wack.. but on the whole, looking at all of his body of work, nas is one of the most unique and important hip hop artist in history.. the interviewer is black, but the way he talks to nas makes it seem like he knows nothing about hip hop or nas... just workin for the white man, the best he can haha

  • Nas always seems to get put on blast by this pathetic propaganda we call the "media" today. Dudes need to hop off their elitist horse and actually look at things objectively. If these idiots had any clue about hip hop, they would know Nas is one of the most conscious rappers ever. Real Talk

  • the man who did this interiveiw was very biased and trying to get nas to say one thing, i think that he was very disrespectful and talked down upon hiphop artist as if they were suposed to be super heros or something, nas is a very smart man with very strong lyrics this guy needs to lear how to give an interview a little better and let nas speak, dont try and mold the conversation to how you want it to be, im this guy could have played a better song of nas's

  • another bullshit interview. exactly what Nas said.. do they really think Violance was dirived from a few songs? give me a break.

  • i agree man this was a very bad interview the guy was trying to mold nas to say what he wanted him to say

  • he's a great rapper but he works for the same elite.. he's a sellout.. just like most of the hip-hop industry... they'll sacrifice their own for fame and fortune... they're all part of the fraternity.. destroying and rebuilding

  • yes, have you ever taken a psychology class, geez music & all forms of media play a huge role in the behavioral structure of children & adults. nas loss my respect for his stupid statement. blah blah blah......

  • yes this is true. howeverer, you think Nas's songs Created Violance ? i think not.

  • thank you i agree with you 10000%

  • wow, i didn't know nas only had one song in his whole catalogue. In all seriousness, O'Reilly used the same song last year, but you never hear anyone play 'I Can'...That song helped me so much when it came out, im sure it helped many other young impressionable minds moreso than 'shoot em up' and album cut from a album that didnt get nowhere as much attention as God's Son. Don't forget, "I Can" was a lead SINGLE!! Who else would have the balls to do that, but the gangster rapper Nas!!!

  • this interviewer dont know nothin about nas or his music.....i know i can?...black zombies?...illmatic?....he was talkin about positive shit there wtf....how is he goin to make somethin more positive then i know i can?...not possible....but i do believe that music influences kidz tho...gangstas on tv lookin all cool makes kidz wanna be gangstas to be cool 2....you guys should see the interview he did wit 106 about this topic....its much better

  • what a fuckin stupid interview:

    - he comes on CNN to supposedly help make a positive influence towards the younger audience

    - the interview starts off with one of his songs about murdering someone, does not defend it at all

    - he says "this incident" does not make him go in the studio and want to make a song about it

then what is the whole point of even going on CNN? to promote your next album?

    typical african american rappers.

  • man what type of younger audience watches cnn?...i dont know any 12 year that watches the news...this is just to speak about the incident...thats it.....and that song is spoken from a perspective of a gangbanger....there are many of those. real life situations.

  • watch the video again. idiot.

  • lol for what?i already rebuked ya simple minded ignorant statements.

    1) this interviews is not directed at a 'younger audience'....what you think the demographic of cnn is?.get real bitch, no 12 year old watches cnn

    2) that song was spoken from a perspective of a gangbanger, a murderer. chronicling a real situation. he already said that he speaks from real life situations. there are gangbangers doin that type of shit.hes only there to speak about the boys killing and the letter. understand that.

  • Don't talk about typical. Read up on the man. Listen to his music. Listen to what he actually said. Then pay attention to the corner.

They take things out of context there in the side and spin it like he wasn't there to talk about how this issue was about "The good die young."

Its sad when people overlook good in the world. Get pass yourself, your bias, and listen like he is the last man alive and you'll find some love. Get pass yourself, man. Humble is the word.

  • "The good die young."

    they die from what?

    cancer, aids, heart disease?

NO. they die from other african american children beating them to death outside of school or those who rap about "shoot em up with 1 44 two 45,s 3 loaded clips ... This kid should die"

like a preacher trying to teach the kids not to kill, holding a knife with blood dripping from it in his hand. i agree, Humble is the word.

  • Truth is it's entertainment and for the part Nas often takes two different routes.

He'll discuss two different types of situations.

The one with the Violence and the one where a person has to live with it.

You have to go through the mans music before you call him a hypocrite.

  • What are you on about ?

    He already addressed the situation.

Stop stroking your ego you obviously know jack shit about Hip Hop or "African American" Rapper.

Like theres a difference a white or black one.

  • "A rap song in the 21st century influencing violence is a joke!"

  • "....a rap song in the 21st century influencing violence is a joke." Truer words could not have been spoken. That's like saying Les Miserables makes Broadway nerds want to start a revolution. All hip hop does is tell a story; it's not one people want to hear...it's not one *I* want to hear, but it's a true story, and it's a story that's happening all around us. There's a small collection of candles just down the street from me commemorating where people were killed in some stupid gang violence.

  • i love how these rappers refer to movies like the Godfather when they want to deflect from the actual topic. theres way more violent rap produced, then there are gangster movies. and very few with any depth or intelligence to it, i know Nas does sometimes. but with alot of other rappers its just random gun talk and casually talking about killing. and its marketed towards kids.

  • why do people keep denying that rap does have SOME negative influence on kids. i mean the excuses are ridiculous. "our country was built on violence. havent you seen gangs of new york", wtf does that have to do with him making songs like "shoot em up" & "suspect niggas". they're pointless

  • lol dats terrible at the bbegginin i can jus tell dey might hate on nas in dis vid

  • i also feel that these movie studios should also do something, where i'm from no1 talks about wanting to be like 50 cent or any other hardcore rapper. they talk about wanting to be like the hustlas on the corner, to be like da gangstas they see in movies i.e. scarface, don corleone, carlito of carlito's way. with that said movies influence inner city youth more than any nas song can.

  • I disagree. Nas has way more influence on a kid than any movie, because he reminds them of themselves. He comes from the same environment as them, same race as them, and same circumstances. So Nas would influence a young Black kid more than some Cuban actor, or a German Arnold Schwarzanagger. How many people who like the Terminator roam in your nearest ghetto? None

  • umm i disagree, i know plenty of people from the hood that love terminator movies, that love scarface, that love the godfather. how many kids in ur hood do see sayin they want to be the next nas? none. how many kids do see quoting a line from a famous gangster flick, almost everyone. i'm not speakin 4 all hoods in general, i'm speaking from my point of view from where i come from i see more kids tryna emulate more gangsta flicks than any rapper. & if u disagree then we both agree 2 disagree

  • They may love those movies, but how many of those people are actually imitating Terminator or Scarface? As far as you not hearing anyone say they want to be the next Nas is crazy. They may not say that word for word, but I'm sure you'll find plenty of young kids in hoods wanting to be rappers. Plenty. There are way more young Black kids trying to be rappers than there are wanting to be Arnold. And if they don't want to be the next Nas, it's the new rappers they wanna be. Wayne, Jeezy, T.I.

  • there are alotta rappers do give back to the hoods & get involved more than, any news channel, more than al sharpton or jesse jackson ever has. but that doesnt get any media recognition cuz the news rather scrutinize & ridicule our way of living, & make the hoods look worse than they are instead of sheding light on the positives. on the other hand rappers do it themselves as well. more rappers need to step up & do more than just rap about our plight but actually do sumthin bout it

  • I agree here. Rappers need to publicize the good they do, and contribute insteasd of bragging about breaking it down.

  • why don't they ever talk about how rap gave many young black/hispanics males/females a way out the hood & made them millionaires? or how it brought together blacks, whites, asians, & all races together? documentaries about serial killers can be just as influencing on violence as a rap song. movies like kill bill are hailed as classics but when a rapper comes out wit a song called shoot em up or shoot niggas all hell breaks loose.

  • the way i it is, if this back & forth over hip hop being the cause of violence is getting old. news stations always blame the rappers for the violence, but y not blame the channels & radio stations that play the music as well? i agree wit nas, this country was built on violence so 2 balme hip hop as the main cause of it all is ludocious. there are plenty of other sources of violence in the media but they continue to choose to belittle hip hop. why don't they ever point out the positives in rap?

  • Really breh? You're gonna use something from Nastradamus in order to make a point? You've got positive songs like I Can and Black Zombies to look at and you're going to use a filler track from someone's worst album to make a point. I was trying to forget Nastradamus even existed, but that's all gone now. Thanks, CNN and Fox News!

  • lol That's true. They did select something from literally 10 years ago.

  • lol i jus commented bout those 2 songs..lol

  • i hate it when ppl say that music has an influece on crime... there are soooooo many more songs about love and peace.. if ppl were truly influenced by music, we'd live in a peaceful world.

  • Excellent point!

  • nas - i can

    nas - just a moment

    nas - one mic

    nas - rule

they put up the most grimest nas track they can find but they couldn't put atleast one postive track he did.

  • man this is stupid nas has done plenty of deep positive songs

  • Since WWII the US government has killed 20-30 million people through interventionism and conflicts worldwide. But no, Nas is the one responsible for our violent culture.

  • I'm sorry, but whence this figure of "20-30 million"?

I would put the figure closer to maybe 8-10 tops, if one includes vassals (like the Contras in Central America for example).

  • The violent gang bangin songs are the only ones you hear thumpin from cars and corners all over the streets of my town. So don't try to say you're not influencing these kids/young adults. when I see a young parent at the 7/11 packin and talkin gang bangin shit while in the presence of thier own kids.. like it's a glorious life and an honorable thing to do to rob, shoot, beat, and cripple the neighborhoods we all live in. Toxic m*therf*ckers need to get a grip. A strrong man builds his people up.

  • LOL

NAS is such a fucking idiot!!

I think it's even more hilarious that anyone looks up to him.

  • Why the fuck would a song make someone shoot someone? Maybe we should just ban violent movies and TV shows too.

Maybe it's the parents fault for not teaching a child to separate fiction from reality.

  • That song wasn't even popular like that lol.. they just pulled out a negative song out of his entire catalog Lol

  • They just won't let that shoot em up song go... fuck news.

  • White conspiracy. Right ?

  • Nas is a faggot. He watches The Godfather too much.

  • new world, listen to it.

  • Don Lemon is an ass

  • yo NaS im riding with u bro

  • oh gosh, poor guy.

  • Who listens to this dumb down down crap?

  • "the good die young"...what a load of crap!!! What is this guy doing on TV? Where are the other artists from Chicago? They are figuring out an angle to turn this into profit and exposure to sell more albums.

  • The good die young? loser Naz

  • Truth @ 1:41. CNN is full of chit.

  • this is crap compared to Rammstein or Alisa

  • How is Nas going to tell young black males to stop butchering each other in the streets with his background?

  • If Bono went to the hood and told people to put down their guns and stop killing each other for menial bullshit, do you think anyone would listen? People like Nas, 2pac, Mike Tyson, or Michael Vick have enormous sway with the black youth who feel disenfranchised. I don't really mean to lump Nas in there with guys convicted of serious offenses, because Nas really hasn't done anything that bad. But he does empathize with them because he was once a ghetto youth.

  • I'm not saying that Nas should be a peacenik. But this thug image or culture you see associated with Black people on Television and the Music does not help the black image. Also this thug image reinforces negative perceptions about young black males. That's just a fact of life like it or not. And I'm really blaming folks like Nas and 50cent. But I do blame the record companies that overly promote the negativity and the thug culture for profit.

  • Do you even listen to Nas? He's about the only popular Hiphop artist that consistently promotes positive messages. Listened to Godson? The untitled album? lost tapes? He's even doing an album with damien marley with all profit donated to aids research and starving people in africa. In street disciple he stressed the importance of being a good father. And he clearly stated on Colbert Report that he's not thug and wont promote it.I'd say he's a pretty good role model for black youth, wouldn'y you?

  • NAS looks a bit wasted.

  • and now back to our regularly scheduled program. lol

  • Ughh Nas sounds like such an idiot when he speaks. When he rhymes, he can sound so poetic and profound at times. But take away that beat, and then he turns into someone who can't even string a sentence together.

    HIP HOP IS DEAD anyway...

  • Do rappers REALLY get in as many fights or shootouts as their lyrics seem to portray? Just seems to me like they're trying to one-up each other and prove themselves as the "alpha dog." It's silly. Rap, as I once heard someone say, is mainly a big ego trip these days.

  • There is a distinction between rappers and hip-hop emcees. Rappers are considered to be in the game just for the money and fame and really contribute nothing but negativity. Now hip-hop emcees understand their power of influence and give a real picture of where they cam from but offer some alternatives.

  • It is all the same. Talentless people who can't write music talking shit over the same basic mix. Maybe some day someone will figure out what a chord progression is.

  • Well you clearly dont understand the genre.

  • Arthritis killed my career but I understand music. Written 60 plus songs. Ever heard of the 12 bar blues? Millions of songs with the same basic music lifted from a classical piece called "Les Etudians". Copyright expired long ago.

  • Sorry about your career coming to an end. Anyway, you might understand the genre(s) you play or enjoy but this does not mean you understand every genre. There are cultural implications and when you discount an entire genre pretending to understand it you appear to be a close minded racist.

  • Michael Franti is a hero of mine. He does not use the same basic music track for all his songs.

  • justsomeoneallen: *The same basic music track for all his songs* Without Google name the inventor of hip-hop, the 5 elements, the definition of a master emcee and how one tells the difference between east coast, west coast (nor-cal and so-cal), midwest, south, dirty south, old school, new school, conscious, gangsta, backpack, hippy-hop, hip-POP, rap and underground.

  • You tell me. All sounds the same. I can listen to a song and see the 1st 4 bars are from A Tom Petty song. The next 8 are from a Joe Walsh song. Can you do that?

  • So unless you are saying that Petty and Walsh sound the same you just contradicted yourself. Anyway, no Hip-Hop doesnt all sound the same. Now Rap (not Hip-Hop) tends to use looped beats for a more commercial sound but Rap is trash anyways. Again I insist you dont understand the genre. This is natural, because you havent spent the last 20 years listening to it as I have. Visa versa is true for me and your top genre too.

  • You completely missed the point. The only reason I was thinking about this is I was working on uploading one of my favorite songs. Had to do some conversion and editing first. Wait a little bit till it gets processed and tell me how many of your heroes do you think could recreate this by ear without spending a week practicing the tabliture.

  • I have no heroes. If we are talking about guitar tabs they are for beginners. Anyway I like Robert Johnson ie the grandfather of Rock music, Eddie Hazel and Jimi Hendrix. As for complete metal bands I Metallica and especially Tool.

  • OK maybe we just have different opinions. In my opinion if you write great lyrics you should compliment it with great music. You may not be able to tell the difference between the music I like any more than I can tell the difference in the music you like. I know I prefer music that requires me to spend weeks trying to figure out the guitar on the kind of music I like than to spend 20 minutes figuring out a snoop dogg song.

  • Yes this had been my contention the entire time. Have you ever attempted to produce music? It isnt just pushing buttons and sliding levers. I think that unfortunately you are still making assumptions about a genre you dont understand and are still confusing Hip Hop and Rap. Snoop is a rapper not an emcee.

  • I am about to upload a song I wrote. May suck but at least the chord progression is something you have never heard before.

  • Send it too me. I will peep it.

  • How do you suggest I do that? No way to do it from your channel. The text may be the same color as the background. Anyway if you find it this was a punk rock song I had to adapt to the only cheesy drum track I had,

  • You dont know how to send video to people?

  • Look at your own channel and see if you can figure it out The text for send message is probably the same color as your background.

  • I already know how. open the video you want to send. click *share* right next to *favorite* and when the box opens but *steadno* in and send it.

  • Please review the PM I just sent about text color and your background color. Clicking on various black places brought up options to block you etc.
