Ignore the fact that sociologists never take a high level math course, a physics course or an astronomy course and probably have no clue what they're talking about while people in math related fields most likely do take sociology. Sociology majors do sociology, so obviously sociology is for only the smartest people right?

My opinion is that all disciplines should be appreciated, and maybe some of you should hit the books and get off youtube if you spend your time putting down academics. We are very lucky in Canada to be able to get an education, whether it be in physics, or sociology!

Sociology is an incredibly fascinating and complex system of thought... generally taught in a very basic and trivial manner at pre-university level. Based on what I learnt age 17 doing it for Alevel I was fairly unimpressed. After having access to a university library, however, and actually going out and reading Weber, Simmel, Marx, Giddens, Habermas, Foucault, etc etc... well, I switched subjects and became a sociologist!

Sociology is a worthless "discipline." The study is so broad that it doesn't really even scratch the surface of anything. A sociology major, once he has his -- in most cases HER -- expensive and worthless undergraduate degree, will say this to himself after the graduation ceremony: "damn, I don't know shit." He will then proceed to waste more money on a graduate sociology program, and once he has his master's degree he will say this: "damn, I don't know shit."

@clumpofdirt77 - The problem is that ignorant assumptions regarding the subject are perpetuated (by people like yourself), turning other individuals away. You forget how much anthropologists and political scientists appropriate from classical sociology (as "social science"), as well as the fact that social research, -a practical, multimillion dollar thing- is a product of the discipline. I highly doubt you could competently read the texts of Weber or Habermas, let alone understand their gravity.

@szeboro Then move lol. Great thing about sociology is that it I found it to be the most traveled degree than anything else aside from engineering medicine, business. Sociology helps you collect and analyze data and behaviour from populations and give (government[s]) what they're looking for. Also as a macewan student they offer an internship for criminology students as myself to many police and NGO organizations as analysts and advisors. Sociology is a great degree, but better if u get an MA.

I have a caring nature, even though I hate to show it, and I try to be as manly as I can, I can't help it, I like helping people with their problems. Thus I am going into social work. By the way if you like social work don't get a social work degree, get a sociology one because with both you can do social work only Soc will offer you more jobs, WAY more!

Well if you've actually attended university you would know that Sociology professors may have been specialized in social stratification and power, prison systems, family units, intimate relations et al. Being that we are a tribe/pack species understanding sociology is pretty much your ticket to the top. Although I am a sociology student, I have no interest in contributing to the field. My goals are business and sociology is something my MBA counterparts do not have.

Understanding/meaning is what people tend to want. "sociology is hardly a science" science is knowledge, sociology is studying, gaining/testing knowledge in social environments. Maybe our behaviour isn't inherent in our genes or consistant throughout the universe but that's the point, this is the study of conditioning and what people do / can do. I think you've missed the point in sociology if you think you're going to get an equation balancing behaviour with natural law...

Sociology is interesting but it's the worst major one can pick if you want to become employed someday. People who have majored in either sociology or social politics have officially the biggest unemployment rates. Even philosophers fare better.

We can talk about theories all day long relating to people being born a criminal or environmental factors coinciding with their anti social behavior. The status quo dictates that we are all born a homo sapien (homindae) with brains. Whether we use this brain for better use in the world or for our own personal gain can be debated about for hours. Temptation will remain with us until we die, but it is upto us to not quench that thirst as it can spiral into court cases and jail time.

Nobody is born a criminal, sure a good upbringing to your child's welfare and emotional security may help to progress their success as opposed to being brought up in a environment which is somewhat questionable. This is an outstanding recruitment tool. I am the Sociology Chair at the University of San Francisco and would love to have such a tool at our disposal. You should package the video content and market it to other departments, making it easy to add their own "host" and/or narration.

I would love to have access to the images you use and the audio tracks, and then use one of our own faculty as "host" with a script unique to our program.

In any case, it's a very nice piece of work.
