I have some MAJOR issues with this game.

I LOVE this old-school kind of game, but I don't see why they can't give it modern graphics.

Look at Lost Viking in SCII.

That game is like this one but with sweet graphics.

Also, I can for the life of me not understand why the screen is so limited.

We live in the age of Widescreen TV's now.

Can you imagine how it would be if the battle was spread across a 50" TV?

The graphics are wonderful, they didn't need to redo the graphics in all 3 games. The Raiden series is classic! Also, the games can't be played wide-screen because it's imported from the arcades... If you have a HD T.V. there's an option to put it FULL-SCREEN, but you've got to tilt your T.V. to the side (like in the arcades). I guess the shmup genre isn't for everyone. I love 'em! Raiden IV, Mushihimesama Futari, Deathsmiles, Triggerheart, Xevious, etc... All AWESOME!

I brought this after i played raiden 4 a couple of days ago. its a rare gem the game is hard and awesome and its around the range of 15 dollars for 3 games well i got a preowned copy from gamestop the disc had no scratches on it.

Have I the old school review idea for you, then. It's Shoot'em-Up Construction Kit for Amiga/Atari ST/C-64! Not only could you build darn near any top scroller shooting game you desired, but create a self executing disk that could be distributed to friends, starring your creations. Sounds. Graphics. Weapons. Story plots. You could create them all. Want a man that walked over a ship that always flew, Yup. Just couldn't have ten billion shots on screen at once. Wish they'd make a modern version.

I live in Europe and there are ways of obtaining it. Unfortunately it involves purchasing a North American 360 and then import the North American version. Of course you could just mess around with the Region lockout chip but that'd void the warranty, and considering the RROD and disc read errors I like to keep my warranty intact. I WANT A NORTH AMERICAN 360 JUST FOR SHMUPS!

The game looks fun and certainly is fun but as you can see by the video the enemies do not offer any challenges by having a very light, predictable, and endlessly repeated attack patterns, are generic repeats, and you never fight anything different.

A game of this quality is exactly what to expect from a developer team that made their latest mediocre release called 0 Day, which is utter crap.

I love the raiden series but I wont be buying this one cuz there is to much crap on screen and too many cheap deaths. Hardly any skill envolved in these tipes of shmups? Strikers 1945 has alot of different ships to use as well. What was the name of the SNK Neo Geo smup where you were a fairy? That was a fun one. Theres one kindah like it for the dreamcast i have, i cant remember the name, but instead of a ship you are a flying person. One of them is a fat genie. hahaha!

sega saturn was a god of a console in Japan but in North America i had a lot of trouble getting good games for it unlike my friend who lived in Japan. I was so jealous of him at the time until i started burning games. Sega saturn was to underrated oh well its a shame it had tons and i mean tons of great vertical shooters

This game (games?) is full of sweet shmuppy goodness, but you gotta admit the Raiden Fighters soundtracks suck balls. Lord, that crude, pounding, unimaginative techno sounds dated today. The "old school" cheesy synthesizer rock of Raiden IV is light years better.

The Dreamcast had a bunch of great shmups. I wish some of the great Saturn shooters would be rereleased on newer consoles as downloadable games. I've always wanted to play Radiant Silvergun, but it's very expensive now.

If we wanna play the latest shmup then buying import is the only way to go. If you go to Japan you can pick up a new 360 in some places for under $100 US. And these games for under $30 US. But I agree, MS should do away with the region stuff, it's not fair that these games come out years ahead of time in japan and sometimes not at all. Wii also have Wiiware (New games for download next to Virtual Console which is classic games for download) anyway just to let you know Wiiware has Star Soldier R which exacly the same genre and style of gameplay towards what you just play but by far the best classic shooter i play was Star Fox64 on N64 (Star Fox on SNES is also good but graphics feel a bit to outdated the N64 version however never get's old.

Things from that far ago are going to have worse graphics than today's systems. Star Fox 64 is still a great game, though, and is the last decent Star Fox game out there. (The DS game is meh, the controls are horrible and if they wanted to release Star Fox 2, they should have just done that, and I can't decide if Adventures or Assault is worse, but both of them suck)

I totally agree with Mark that more of these shooters should be brought over here, and I don't care about the translation either. But there are too many shmup enthusiasts out there that insist that everything must be perfectly translated-take Mobile Light Force 2 for the PS2, for example. They complained about that, and I was like, who cares?!! As long as the game play is intact (which it was), I don't care about the translation.
