  • WOW.WOW.WOW.WOW.WOW.WOW.WOW.WOW. :)

  • what is the tuning here? not the GCEA is it?

  • did not mean to vote down...meant to vote UP! I LOVE jANET! She inspires me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!

  • Beautiful. No words, really, you're amazing.

  • "This song is a little tricky, but don't worry, there is only 7 chords!" LOL! Well nobody does it quite like Janet!

  • OMG

    ADF#B

Janet is a 10 you and Lil Rev would make a nice Duet on

Together where ever we go. From Gypsy.

  • Are you Playing a GCEA UKe!

  • @SlimSymes nop..

  • she's may be creepy and her singing voice may b sub-parr but she is quite kind to post such an exhaustive video to show others how to play. .how kind

  • Charming!

  • Love this song! Wish the song was longer and we could see the chords coming up. Love the little accompanying Janet.

  • Excellent, I'm amazed and astounded. A music lesson wrapped in a work of art. You are the best person on the earth and I'll buy you an ice cream cone any time any where.

  • To those of you asking about her tuning, the tuning is given at about 2:56 into the video: "A,D,F#, B and a capo on the third fret" which she describes as "1920's Jazz tuning".

  • I just saw her in concert at the Muckenthaler...WOW!!! she is awsome and the parlor boys rock also. She is a sweetheart

  • You really need to state what tuning you're in. Most players, including thousands of members of uke clubs everywhere don't use the tuning you are in. So the chord names are all different.

    And what about the intro?

  • Thankyou so much, I love this song. And you're a lovely teacher.

  • excellent excellent excellent

  • so wonderful! great video. going to give this a shot myself.

  • Just love the visuals and and Janet!

(One thing though, wondering about the tuning? It isn't GCEA so what is it?

    Thanks.

  • HELP ---- how do you tune your uku??? You are awesome and I bought and I am learning how to play the uku because of fine people like yourself......

I guess you tuned your uku a FULL NOTE upfrom the stand uku tuning........

  • Wonderful, charming and so cute! Both Janet & this lil' song :) Big thanks to Janet for the instructions!

  • this song is so lovely :D

  • is this for standard uke tuning? GCEA? My chords aren't matching up.

  • It is stated there clearly that she's using the "1920s jazz tuning" A D F# B.

  • Can you give me the time at the point in the video where it is "clearly stated".

    I must have missed it.

  • Oh, I found it. At 3:00 minutes. After we have been shown all the chords.

I can't wait to learn this one! Charming song, and lovely video!

  • @odinata hi there ---- you are correct --- there is a frame in her video that shows how she tuned her uku --- ADF#B ---

Now -- I would like to get the chord chart for playing a uku that is tuned to ADF#B.....

  • Well done, absolutely marvellous

  • You're adorable and this is perfectly charming! That previous comment about the "wrong" chords with the "thumb down" rating is rude - who cares?! This lady has style and class and just wanted to share something nice. And she did - with us! So thanks Ms. Klein!

  • Have just discovered this lady! Good old You Tube - what a beautifully produced piece. Ms Klein's speaking voice is very reminiscent of Jean Arthur, don't you think?

  • not too complicated, just capo at 5th on a regular uke.

I prefer Koko Kaina's version (Zee Avi). It'll dash your heart to pieces, then melt it all back together again.

It's a fantastically well done video though. Wow!

  • I started out with the jazz tuning, but ended up switching to standard because I could never jam with most uke players without capoing or contortions! lol They're all good...

    Love this video!

  • She just tunes her uke the proper way - A D Fsharp B. D tuning ...no capo involved

  • Lovely!

  • can someone post a version of this song without the capo?? i learned all the chords but nothing is sounding right!

  • i wish she had mentioned the different tuning BEFORE going into the chords .. and maybe some link where to get that tuning ... i was strumming along like an idiot in Ctune and wondering why i sounded so way off

  • That was one of the most relaxing things Ive ever seen/heard. O_o Her voice is enchanting. And her singing voice is seductive. Im so calm right now.

  • Janet Klein quite possibly could be the most charming person in Los Angeles.

  • A thoroughly charming entertainer!

  • oooo, smashing! how quirky hehe

  • this video is a real treat- a little unfair to savethe part about jazz tuning and kappos til i'd already learn seven chords though!

  • Comment removed

  • How did you do this video? Is there a prog to do the inserts like that? Please tell. I love it!

  • That was WONDERFUL!

  • Cute Roaring-20's theme :)

  • Great job! I like this song. Can any one tell me the strumming pattern??

  • i dont know what this is exactly-but its brilliant!

  • navin johnson was steve martin's character on "the jerk" and this film was something extra they put on the dvd... with a few color touch-ups.

  • I love the design, the execution, and the sheer delight of this video. Keep it up, Miz Klein!

  • MY SPECIAL PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice but can hardly hear the Uke...turn it up a bit! :)

  • She is so sweet! That Lighting is Great! it makes Her look so 2 strip technicolor!

  • Luv the Uke, it really is a forgotten little

gem of an instrument. Janet your just great

and so are your Parlor Boys.

  • i love the style and song, thanks for uploading this.

  • Nice production. Congratulations to all concerned.

  • ha ha nathan johnson

  • She reminds me of Felicia Tillman from "Desperate Housewives."

  • I think I saw her perform at The Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles.

  • god-like!

i doff my cap in a thousand ways to my superior!

    (top shelf jazz)

  • Janet you are so adorable. Your portrayal of a bygone era is so satisfyingly accomplished. I love your style. Thanks.

  • Nathan Johnson? perhaps a reference to the scene in "The Jerk" where 'nathan johnson' plays uke for his sweetheart

  • The best I ever saw in YouTube. Have everything that a good video should have.

  • Rock it.

  • Great!!! This is awsome... i love it, beautiful music and accent

  • wow..i think i am in love, you are so pretty janet!

  • What a nice instructional video. I love the vintage look. Anyone would find this entertaining. Thank you for sharing.

  • why are my chords wrong? GCEA?

  • Janet put a capo on the third fret and changed the key of the song. The chords are still right, it just has to be sung in a different key. You can't really play along with her.

  • actually, isn't it because you have a different uke than her? mine is GCEA as well and a d chord is not first string third. I would assume you can use the same chords but you need to look up the fingering for your style uke (tenor alto or whatever)

  • ah, if you notice in the video you need to change to her "jazz tuning" a d F# b

  • A uke tuned in C can easily be retuned to D unless your strings are already too tight or wound around the pegs too many times. Alternatives are to capo the second fret or just move the chords down two frets (including second fret in place of open strings).

  • If you just play the chords as shown you will have the same tune just transposed to C. Try it! or go with the capo suggestion.

  • You asked this 7 months ago, but I just found this video and I thought I'd answer... She's tuned to "D"... A - D - F# - B

You can either tune the whole uke up a full step, or simply put a capo on the 2nd fret (or not so simply, bar the 2nd fret with your finger on all the chords that require it).

  • Wher'd my comment go? I was complimenting Janet, but ponting out the chord names... Well the names don't matter as long as the fingers are correct, which they are. But, all things equal, that wouldn't be an Eb6, it should be D6. The name she gives it applies to Eb tuning only, in which case all the other chord shapes would take different names. If your tuned/capoed exactly like she says she is, the names should be shifted along by a third, e.g. D=1 E=2 F=3, so the D-shape actually sounds F

  • I wouldn't fuss too much. She probably capo'd to get the uke up to the stratospheric key she sings in. (Sounds like J# from down here.)

  • Five Stars x 2!

  • Hi Janet, You don't know me but I am sitting here with Greg MacLaurin and he led me here - I am SO glad he did. I LOVED this. Great vid. 5 stars!

  • great - very well done and helpful (the 3 screens etc.)! Great quality of video, editing, playing and singing!

  • TO-NIGHT YOU BELONG TO ME Valse moderato -- E-Flat © 1926 Henry Waterson, Inc. Words by Billy Rose - Music by Lee David Chorus: Though you belong to somebody else Tonight you belong to me Though we're apart, you're part of my heart Tonight you belong to me Down by the stream, how sweet it will seem Once more to dream in the moonlight Though with dawn, I know you'll be gone Tonight you belong to me
  • Exquisite production - vital, compelling personality - tasteful, charming presentation! Your ukulele instruction is delightful. I was surprised that you altered the time signature (it was published in 3/4 time), changed the melody, and added lyrics to the original song. The adaptation is charmante, but is based on the 1956 revival of the song, recorded by Patience and Prudence.

  • This rocks! Please - more. Beautifully produced!
