  • dammit man u know the oil pump is bad and your starting it back and revving it if you know its bad replace the pump and bearings now before its to late i had an incident like that and i added sum lucas to the oil till i could fix it but my oil pump wasnt out it was the bearings bad quit starting it till you get a new pump and the rods and mains replaced keep on starting it with a bad oil pump and you will spin one then you cannot save it replace the pump wen u do the bearings regardless bad rnot

  • @robbie1674563 Hahaha... Dude...this was a good while ago. This Jeep is LONG gone. Sold it with full disclosure of the repair work. In any case...I knew the motor had damaged bearings at the least. Starting it back up was NOT an issue. I KNEW I was replacing the bearings at the very least, and had a back up plan of just getting a new short block. Not my first rodeo :) I tore it down, found the issues, put it back together and it ran perfect. I still see it running around!

  • When the engine is cold your going to have oil pressure. when it warms up it will decrease due to the oil getting thinner.

  • It doesent sound as bad as it could, when it´s been running without oil pressure.

Another thing is that it can run for some time when it is cold, without oil pressure.

  • spun bearing stop revving idiot

  • Idiot? You just diagnosed a spun bearing...which was wrong by the way. I knew it was the oil pump, and it got oil pressure back from the oil cooling down. Revving it did nothing that wasnt already done. I was prepared to swap the shortblock if I had to, but all it needed was a pump and bearings...idiot :)

  • Oh yeah...this was also added 3 YEARS AGO! Hahaha.... Jeep ran great for another 40k, and was still running great when we sold it for an 03. Disclosed everything with the previous owner, and I saw him about a month ago at Wawa...still driving it. Running great.

  • My bad...with no oil pressure you get spun bearings...and that's what it sounds like

  • @halohadel I think you might have that a little backwards. From a spun bearing you get no oil pressure. I agree that if you lost oil pressure it could spin a bearing, but the most common thing that will happen is the bearings will overheat, and the crank will seize. Thats what started to happen in the 20 seconds that it took for me to get off the road when I lost pressure. Bearings were almost all copper. Luckily, they stayed put and didnt score the crank. Thats why I didnt do a shortblock

  • wow how did you catch it that fast?

  • Was sitting at a light, Jeep loaded to the hilt with my friends stuff since I was helping him move. Went to pull out, and had zero power. Glanced down and saw 0 oil pressure. Motor had drag from no oil, hence no power. So I limped it around the curve and shut it off so I could coast to the next street. There was no where to pull off until I got to a certain point of the road, and traffic was behind me. Figured it was already toast so wanted to get off the road safely. Lucked out.

  • the oil pump just went out on my 94 f150 with 163k miles. i drove it with low to 0 oil pressure and it spun all the bearings and fucked over the motor. the motor rebuild is costing me $450.

  • My buddies' 88 cherokee started losing oil pressure around 210,000 miles even after using 50wt oil. So we did a quick rod and main bearing swap and threw in a high volume oil pump. Presure went to 40 psi (from 5psi at idle) and ran great until he sold it at 240,000 miles.

  • my jeep does allmost the same thing but it does a clicking sound, just starded doing it 2days ago is it the iol pump or a melted piston

  • I dont know man... Can you post a video of it with a good sound recording? 4.0s make all kinds of noises. If its just a slight ticking, it could be injector noise, or slight piston slap. Could be an exhaust leak too. Leaks up near the exhaust manifold will tick like crazy. Depending on what year, the manifolds crack all the time.

  • yeah man, the 4.0's aren't pretty, they make all kindsa noises, and stuff but they just keep going.

  • @whyzee125 for sure

  • Its a stuck lifter

  • Not quite... Lifters were perfectly fine. The original oil pump took a dump. Unfortunetly, I wasnt able to just shut down and pull over, and had to go alittle futher down the road before I could shut down and coast. Just enough time to start to destroy the main bearings. New bearings, new pump...bought us some time with it.

  • Did you get this fixed ever? My 93 is doing this exact same thing, no oil pressure, same noise. I'm guessing it's the oil pump but indicating that there's a bigger problem, like bearings are going. None of the mechanics in town will bother to fix it, either.

  • yup... i have another video from about a week after this one. replaced the main bearings, and the oil pump. been good since.

  • were the bearings bad or just a precaution? my friends jeep sounds just like this

  • Bearings were toast. If I could have just shut down when I lost oil pressure, they would have most likely survived. But since I had to actually accelerate for a bit, they ate themselves. Just enough to screw things up. The crank wasnt gouged thank goodness. We sold the Jeep 10,000 miles later, and it was still smooth and quiet.

  • haha well i guess theres no going back for my dumbass friend, hes been driving his jeep for a good 4,000 miles since it started

  • buddies 88 Cherokee went 262k miles and ran good when he sold it.

  • 127 thousand miles and already messin up? dang my jeep lasted till 276k miles be4 it evan showed signs of wearing, and then it was just the head gasket, got that fixed and its still runnin with almost 300k miles on it :) 4.0 i6 is a hard engine to wear out

  • Yup sure is. But even the best chickens lay a bad egg every so often. Im not sure why the motor goofed. Well...I know it was either the oil pump, or some dirt got into one of the main bearings. If I didnt drive it as far as I did, it would have just needed a new pump. BTW, my 94 XJ has over 200,000 and she is lifted and gets abused often. Love those 4.0s!!!

  • yup yup yup really good engine. im in college for mechanic school and every person including the teacher thinks the same, that the jeeps 4.0 inline six is the strongest engine on the road today,no lie,the slogan we have for it is *jeep inline six, you'll wear yourself out before you wear it out*

  • Mine had 198K+ when mine bent a rod. then again I did do top speed for 20 min while running to he hospital. I saw one in the paper for $900. I think I might get another one, even if the engine is going out I could storke it to a 4.6L and have some more fun with it.

  • Awesome!!
