  • @nuttsonurdrumset nah dude, Tony's one of the greatest drummers alive for his age right now. Where he's at right now is so far and away better than he used to be. You don't play for Jay-Z if you're getting worse bro

NICE, TONY, NICE. *MIKE SPENCE. (THE WORLDS ONLY, AUTHORITY & EXPERT, ON "JAZZ MUSIC", THAT IS ME, AND, OTHER THINGS.)

*MIKE SPENCE.(THE WORLDS ONLY, AUTHORITY & EXPERT, ON "JAZZ MUSIC" THA T IS ME, AND,OTHER THINGS.)

  • One word: Sick

  • have you guys seen dennis with the Brecker Brothers, or listened to the records. Unlce Moe's Space Ranch? Tom Coster? Pick Hits Live? it's proof that this wasn't a real drum battle, Dennis is not even trying?

  • @juanbarros88 oops last statement is not a question.

  • at 14 he had this drum set? i'm stuck with a regular 4 piece kit XD Tony Royster's the MAN!!!!!!!

  • he was sponserd by DW at 14... DAMN

  • Its funny how Dennis keeps looking over at Tony when Tony is playing' the amazing fills. Then Dennis is all like "Damn, I wish I could do that!"

  • @XxAndroidII nope, hes like "Yep TOny, u doin it right" Dennis would smash tonys ass off :D

  • his feel and sense of time at only 14 is absolutely ridiculous!

  • Why is he playing in a chair?

  • Why are all these totally mind blowing drummers always play to this HORRIBLE music? That's just ugly and wrong. Who writes that garbage?! Who listens to it?! Yeesh...

  • @BucketsOBlood It's called jazz fusion and fusion rock. Dream Theater dabbles in this style. It's the best style of music to play the drums to because of it's syncopated style and triplets and quadruplet bundles. Most of your classically trained drummers grown up listening to it for it's unique time signature and independent measuring. Music isn't defined by loud deathmetal and hard rock.

  • @Juggerknot79

Who said music was defined by loud death metal and hard rock? I'm familiar with Fusion, and I know bad music when I hear it. That is pure wanksmanship. No emotional content, just sterile, flat, masturbation. There is a hell of a lot of music that is syncopated, requires dazzling technique, and isn't totally boring/pointless. What is all that technique for if it isn't used to make something worth listening to? Both of these guys are great players, but this is a joke.

  • @BucketsOBlood One more comment and I believe We can terminate our discussion. If I have offended you with my first initial response in any way, I apologize. I can not ignore, however, your attacking undertones in response so I have attempted to lowball you yet again. For that, I apologize. Listen, music is music. I can't stand country music, but it does have some genius strokes every now and again. I threw the deathmetal comment out there because I think it's noise, but apparently it's playable

  • @Juggerknot79

Furthermore, I am a classically trained drummer. 22 year vet, actually. I don't understand why you would say Fusion has "triplets and quadruplet bundles", as if they don't exist in other genres (in abundance). It's an odd sentiment to say the least, and says more about what you don't know about music than what you do. If you want to see a couple of masters lay it down with feeling, check out the Stanley Clarke/ Steve Gadd duet video.

  • @BucketsOBlood

Your response, although enlightening from a novice prospective says EVERYTHING about what you don't know about music. If you are in fact a drummer, independent drumming with even a triplet in a broken 4/4 to 6/8 time signature is difficult for even the most progressive drummer. Especially when putting it together in a complicated solo set. EVERY classically trained drummer should know that.

  • @BucketsOBlood

Additionally your claim to having a background in drumming solidifies my opinion of your inadequacies as a drummer. My original comment, which you seem to have ignored, said that MOST classically trained drummers grew up listening to it. My OPINION that it is the best style of music to play to is simply that. I grew up listening to Jo-Jo Mayer, Buddy Rich, Niel Peart and recently Thomas Lang. Each drummer has a unique style and shouldn't be bashed for the music they play to.

  • @Juggerknot79

Of course they should be bashed or celebrated for the music they play! What better standard exists to judge a musician by? That's like saying an architect shouldn't be judged for his ugly/shoddy buildings. Who cares how elaborate they are if they serve no purpose other than bolstering egos? I'm not saying you don't understand music, but if you do, it hasn't been illustrated here. Maybe you like something that has artistic merit, then again, maybe you just like math.

  • @BucketsOBlood heh lol that doesnt sound like a 22 year vet, more like a kid wanting some attention and credibility

  • @luiggiibanez

I said that in response to someone's comment that I probably wasn't classically trained because I don't like this music. I don't go around randomly boasting about silly things like that. Besides, there are plenty of people that can't play at all that are well informed about music and what makes it good or bad.

  • Tony was more fluid when he was younger...that what I see....still a greart player...

  • Tony Royster Jr.'s head is shaped like a peanut.

  • What is that chair thing they have? does it have special powers?

  • this is what I call the best drummer virtuoso who is heard Dennis Chambers & Tony Royster old

  • @asadodemierda i know right

  • does anyone agree with me when i say that..i think dennis is barley playing..lol

  • @lilejamie93 tony is playing too much.... cymbals

  • We all know Dennis was taking it easy on the kid, there's no way he could ever top him.

  • @FractureTheBand thats coz of age difference obviously.... there is NO best drummer.... Tony royster is revered as one of the greatest drummers alive and he is very young.... everyone has their way of playing drums... but no1 is the best... it's like saying that Simon Phillipis is the best drummer.... of course he's a God on the drums, playing Jazz Fusion like it was a piece of cake is no easy task.... but he isnt the best, Dennis is more experienced than Tony...thats all

  • @silversoul69 i agree totally . nice way 2 put it too

  • i think tony played better music back then than he does today... his technique from today and the groove from then would be just awesome

  • Hey look it's Jonah Rocks.

  • Jonah Rocks?

  • im the 1000th like but any way sweet vid

  • yeah i love 0:49 !!!!

  • I think the old man must learn to play another instrument:) lol

mas muito do que fasso aprendi vendo os videos de tony royster jr

  • @baterianosangue faço, não fasso

  • Chambers is just so laid back.

    I like him in a non-homosexual way.

  • Dennis Chambers rocking with Tony Royster JR.

Dennis held back to let the world see Tony's talent but dont get it twisted Dennis would have smashed Tony. You can be a prodigy, but there is no substitute for experience. (Beyond Reflexes)

  • This what u really Call drumming

  • Lol relax guys Dennis was givin the spotlight to tony haha. They are both great.

  • God truely blessed tony royster!!

  • more carter than dennis. Yes dennis is cool. Him and Carter fuck, now that would be a wild duo.

  • DANG BIG MAN GOT SMOOKKKEEEDDD

  • respect dennis for not showing the lil kid up and letting tony have the spotlight, I bet lot of drumers wouldnt have done that

  • That snare sure is cranked up! And perhaps a piccolo snare as well?

  • it looks like tony kicked steven hawkins out of his chair and turned it into a drum throne!

  • @pinkvelvet100 true but can you even IMAGINE how comfortable that thing must be?

  • @screamodrummer1234 insane comfort right there!

i dunno though man .. not into back rests so dunno if itd be more restricting than worth it ,, guess you gotta try it though really!

  • @pinkvelvet100 I laughed WAY too hard at that lol

  • Sick

  • This is awesome !! :D

  • AMAZING Nice to find super drummers actually exist, where have I been? Awesome both drummers and the 14 yr old? I'd love to see him on stage with the R&B stars killin it!

  • @Reddigitalmusic Well that 14 year old is now about 25 and is playing for Jay-Z. And is also a session drummer.

  • @tle123rox Oh Yeah? Talent can take you far, prime example! Thanks for the info

  • Wow, this is a killer video. Nice composition Bob!

  • I had this video, bob you are an amazing composer! You should have gotten down with DC and TR in a drum trio for an outro!

At first I thought dennis was being killed by tony, but as I matured as both a person and a drummer I understood dennis turn the volume wayyyyy down to let little Royster shine :)

  • Yeah royster is in his mid 20's. First time I saw his age 12 drum solo I wanted to burn my drums. For those who haven't seen it look up Tony Royster Jr drum solo. Enjoy

  • you can see the pure bordem on chambers face

  • no way, Bob Gatzen's youtube page! lol

  • awesome!!! but their thrones look uncomfortable

  • Beautiful stuff. Old lion and young lion jamming.

  • @SaanBatero sadly i donthave a webcam or video recorder or a drumset that big

  • @SaanBatero sadly i donthave a webcam or video recorder

  • GEEZE if there's ever a more depressing thing as to see a 14 year old who is better than 95% of drummers!! wow, Amazing! He's great! can't wait to see him in 10 years! And Dennis really needs to work on his speed??! OMG the guy is the fastest I've ever seen!

  • @NovaNeolith- wow, I hope you're saying that Dennis is the fastest you've ever seen, because he could MUTILATE Tony Royster if he wanted too. Like Bob Gatzen said, he is being gracious by letting the 14 year old shine.

  • @NovaNeolith hes grown already, this is an old video

  • im 13 and i can do this

  • @6ianwazhere9 Yes ?? so why dont you upload some videos, showing us you abilities.

  • tony snare sounds like shit, chamber's snare sound awesome!

  • Beast

    LOL that's the funniest I've heard in a while, wow ... !!!!!!

  • Don't forget Tony is DC's pupil.

  • I can't tel if Tony is an inspiration or a jelousy trigger.

  • wow... just wow!

  • yes, this is how come tony so good, chambers his sensei.

  • I had this on VHS lol... Love Tony Royster and Dennis Chambers.

  • What I would give just to play drums with Dennis Chambers....

  • qqqqqqqquuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeenjfkhsadugvbjkfdasjnbjfdnbdkbnfdmbdfvfdklbvdfslghruyhrtghqrweuig werkt

  • LOL at 00:52 looks like he's pooping

  • dennis chamber doesnt even compare wit tony royster jr at this point

  • @c3laya FAIL.

  • Comment removed

  • Dennis is giving little tony a "go ahead, time for you to shine boy"....a lot of respect going on...

  • tony royster def won if this was a contest

  • Its not a fuqqin battle you morons...Jesus im so sick and fucking tired of who is owning. You think when you reach this level of muscianship you are worrying about "who is better" its more of a fact "Can I learn something new". You tools actually think everything is a battle. How do you think they got to where they are? by owning everyone.....morons all of you!! SHEEP!!

  • no fucking way 14?!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the part 1:18 when he get off beat it's so tight.

  • very very cool

  • Dennis is letting little tony have his fun.

  • I think Tony made Dennis mad.

  • Awesome...

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I fucking LOVE this groove man! Anyone has a link for that sample, i'd really like to drum on this!

  • who else votes that tony's snare in this sounds like total ass? its just cranked high as heeeeeeeeeeeeeell

  • @willshiznit86 I like it.

  • @willshiznit86 loool

yup soo tru, i kinda hate how it sounded when tony was this age,

any higher and it would have popped right off lol,

but his great groove and playing cover it all up

  • Cool.

  • is royster jr wearing a seatbelt?

  • dennis's modesty shows in juxtaposition of the kits

  • its easy to be this good when you have that kit. dont even start trolling because i am a drummer too.

  • Shit, this kid is good

  • i just have a feeling that Royster is gonna be my grandkids' Chambers

  • no this is just my opinion but tony royster always over does it with his drum sets just keep it traditional 7 piece set with bout 6 or 7 cymbals no a 16 piece drum set with a little over 13 cymbals

  • Some people just have IT. You can see it here with this kid. He's a baby. Only 14. What's he gonna do at 24? Well we know the answer and it's fucking impressive

  • @mrpicky510 Considering he's 25 now, I'd say we already know.

  • If you notice Dennis' posture compared to Tony, Dennis is totally relaxed and mellow. Tony is upright and ready to rock. Dennis is a master showman and letting Tony shine in this video. He in no way is trying to show him up. What he is doing is simply complimenting this kids kicks so he can shine. The sign of a true pro.

Great chops in this tune Bob. Keep up the good work. :)
