have you guys seen dennis with the Brecker Brothers, or listened to the records. Unlce Moe's Space Ranch? Tom Coster? Pick Hits Live? it's proof that this wasn't a real drum battle, Dennis is not even trying?
Why are all these totally mind blowing drummers always play to this HORRIBLE music? That's just ugly and wrong. Who writes that garbage?! Who listens to it?! Yeesh...
@BucketsOBlood It's called jazz fusion and fusion rock. Dream Theater dabbles in this style. It's the best style of music to play the drums to because of it's syncopated style and triplets and quadruplet bundles. Most of your classically trained drummers grown up listening to it for it's unique time signature and independent measuring. Music isn't defined by loud deathmetal and hard rock.
Who said music was defined by loud death metal and hard rock? I'm familiar with Fusion, and I know bad music when I hear it. That is pure wanksmanship. No emotional content, just sterile, flat, masturbation. There is a hell of a lot of music that is syncopated, requires dazzling technique, and isn't totally boring/pointless. What is all that technique for if it isn't used to make something worth listening to? Both of these guys are great players, but this is a joke.
@BucketsOBlood One more comment and I believe We can terminate our discussion. If I have offended you with my first initial response in any way, I apologize. I can not ignore, however, your attacking undertones in response so I have attempted to lowball you yet again. For that, I apologize. Listen, music is music. I can't stand country music, but it does have some genius strokes every now and again. I threw the deathmetal comment out there because I think it's noise, but apparently it's playable
Furthermore, I am a classically trained drummer. 22 year vet, actually. I don't understand why you would say Fusion has "triplets and quadruplet bundles", as if they don't exist in other genres (in abundance). It's an odd sentiment to say the least, and says more about what you don't know about music than what you do. If you want to see a couple of masters lay it down with feeling, check out the Stanley Clarke/ Steve Gadd duet video.
Your response, although enlightening from a novice prospective says EVERYTHING about what you don't know about music. If you are in fact a drummer, independent drumming with even a triplet in a broken 4/4 to 6/8 time signature is difficult for even the most progressive drummer. Especially when putting it together in a complicated solo set. EVERY classically trained drummer should know that.
Additionally your claim to having a background in drumming solidifies my opinion of your inadequacies as a drummer. My original comment, which you seem to have ignored, said that MOST classically trained drummers grew up listening to it. My OPINION that it is the best style of music to play to is simply that. I grew up listening to Jo-Jo Mayer, Buddy Rich, Niel Peart and recently Thomas Lang. Each drummer has a unique style and shouldn't be bashed for the music they play to.

Besides, there are plenty of people that can't play at all that are well informed about music and what makes it good or bad.
@FractureTheBand thats coz of age difference obviously.... there is NO best drummer.... Tony royster is revered as one of the greatest drummers alive and he is very young.... everyone has their way of playing drums... but no1 is the best... it's like saying that Simon Phillipis is the best drummer.... of course he's a God on the drums, playing Jazz Fusion like it was a piece of cake is no easy task.... but he isnt the best, Dennis is more experienced than Tony...thats all

How do you think they got to where they are? by owning everyone.....morons all of you!! SHEEP!!
no this is just my opinion but tony royster always over does it with his drum sets just keep it traditional 7 piece set with bout 6 or 7 cymbals no a 16 piece drum set with a little over 13 cymbals
Some people just have IT. You can see it here with this kid. He's a baby. Only 14. What's he gonna do at 24? Well we know the answer and it's fucking impressive
If you notice Dennis' posture compared to Tony, Dennis is totally relaxed and mellow. Tony is upright and ready to rock. Dennis is a master showman and letting Tony shine in this video. He in no way is trying to show him up. What he is doing is simply complimenting this kids kicks so he can shine. The sign of a true pro.
Great chops in this tune Bob. Keep up the good work. :)

Its not a fuqqin battle you morons...Jesus im so sick and fucking tired of who is owning. You think when you reach this level of muscianship you are worrying about "who is better" its more of a fact "Can I learn something new". You tools actually think everything is a battle. How do you think they got to where they are? by owning everyone.....morons all of you!! SHEEP!!

i just have a feeling that Royster is gonna be my grandkids' Chambers
EFRproductions 1 year ago
no this is just my opinion but tony royster always over does it with his drum sets just keep it traditional 7 piece set with bout 6 or 7 cymbals no a 16 piece drum set with a little over 13 cymbals

Some people just have IT. You can see it here with this kid. He's a baby. Only 14. What's he gonna do at 24? Well we know the answer and it's fucking impressive
mrpicky510 1 year ago
@mrpicky510 Considering he's 25 now, I'd say we already know.
