When you bathe a dog properly you are suppose to bathe the head first becasue fleas run to the head while you bathe the body.

If you keep your dog on monthly flea treatment he will never get fleas. If a flea gets on him and bites him it will die. Giving a regular bath wouldn't get rid of fleas anyway. =)

Shih Tzus ARE really expensive, but our family got ours for free! We called a poodle breeder to see if he had any poodles that were no longer being bred. He had a male shi tzu that was six years old that he was willing to give away to us for free!! In less than two hours, we drove to his place got the papers and food and stuff, and brought him back home. He was already fixed too, so it lessened the cost of a dog DRASTICLY!!

I say take the dog to the groomers to take care of it, but if they are really bad you can cut them out. 

I suggest brushing the dog every day to prevent matting.

This is a response for everyone who commented that I wasted water in this video.

You are absolutely right. While I'm from Seattle, actively recycle, drive a diesel using more biodiesel as the weather warms, and consider myself relatively "green," in this video I neglected to turn off the water once I turned on the camera. Not an excuse, but have solace in knowing that every time I give Blitz a bath (sans the husband and camera), the water does not run constantly. Have a good one!

Very cute dog. I bathe my Shih-Tzu in the sink too. She tolerates it, but always looks forward to her cookie afterwards. Just a thought, though.... don't let your water run like that:>)

I also recommend putting a towel in the tub/sink underneath them. Many dogs get scared douring a bath because it is slippery and they easily loose footing/balance. The towel allows them to feel more secure. ;)

Cute but the stains can be caused from the food it's eating. The better quality the food the less likely the stains. Also, flaxseed oil will reduce the stains.

I do know actually! well, I don't know, but I know what you can do about it. my baby shit tzu used to have it too, but then you give them this stuff we got at the groomers called 'angel eyes' in their food and it stops that. they have such big eyes that they get infected and stuff and all that crap comes out but this stuff clears it right up. the vet told us it'd be good for him

You mean tear stains? They're quiet common for shih tzus to have. You can get stuff for them at dog stores or even the vet, that's what I had to do with my shih tzu.
