  • John is a statistical NIGHTMARE! HE SHOULD NOT BE ALIVE! but thats what makes him so badass

  • There was clearly some halo 2 in here

  • @Legionnaire18

You're right. Well, except one thing in the level Cortana, when she says she's just her mother's shadow. She was screaming at the gravemind.

  • @darkraioxxx

No, the forerunners were a different species, but 343 says "child of my makers" meaning the humans were the inheritors of forerunner technology

  • @myaw3somerand0mness

The humans weren't supposed to be the inheritors of the forerunners though. They were in the end.

  • @hawkfrost43 Read the books, read ALL the text in the terminals in halo 3, and you'll find that humans are, in fact, the intended inheritors.

  • @mrnoodle2010

    Not initially.

They were made the inheritors as a last ditch effort by the forerunners. I don't want to spoil anything for people reading this comment so if you want to know why I said that message me.

  • @misterdirtyharry

Yeah, and it also serves to deepen the connection between Cortana and MC, though Bungie left most of that in backstory and people who didn't read the books wouldn't catch it. (I.E."There will be a great deal of hardship on the road ahead."

  • @zzxcvb98

Yeah but I think bungie tried to make up for that with how Cortana just immediately seems fine after chief comes and in the level Halo...

  • I wish i had the Gravemind's voice.

  • not to mention, cortana's completely chickified into a "damsel in distress"

  • imo those telepathic "moment" sequences destroyed both characters. cortana was always a pedantic and efficient advisor, and gravemind was methodical and cunning to serve as a foil to the ravenous mindlessness of the rest of the flood. both were reduced to irritatingly pseudo-cryptic emotional ramblings.

  • @zzxcvb98 i think it was meant to be that way, it showed how even a strong character like cortana can nearly be corrupted. she seemed weak because she was fighting for her survival and the survival of the human race. The gravemind has the power to completely corrupt A.I.s so of course cortana would be damaged and nearly rampant.

  • I played Halo 8 months ago and knew what the Gravemind said..................... Chorus.

  • ahahah at the beginning "were it so easy"(beginning of campaign with the cutscene when the arbiter says it XD) and at the ending at the monument for the war again: cant imagine hes dead, arbiter: "were it so easy" lols:P

  • Respond to this video... go to johnsons death 343 says you are their children so that have to be humans

  • 2:30 they must love the smell of green? I thought he said smell of badass...

  • I love Cortana but man is she criptic. :D

  • are all reach's achievements gravemind quotes? lol

  • I like you. I like this video. You're a good man.

  • Whoever said Halo is shit... 1. Why the FUCK did you watch this. 2. How would you no know so much if you obviously don't play it. 3. It's a planet, not another ring. Grow a brain some time, would ya?

  • It's a timeless curse, not chorus.

  • @Darkstar2398 Maybe the gravemind seems to be a timeless curse to us, he said he's an timeless Chorus. He just is hard to understand, in Translations of the Game it is proably better to undestand (only if the translators made no mistakes which I do not thnk. Or you can just look at the Context, and join to sing an Song of everlasting Victory might not be "curse".

  • Thanks for this, man. I've been looking for something like this for a while. Now I don't have to try and track down every one of her quotes just to figure out what she says. :)

  • i had the privelage of playing halo 3 til the Cortana lvl, and GRAVEMIND SCARES ME V~V

  • gravemind=fukin freaky

  • it was freaky in the game, like wen ur tryin to find her and she was like

    whats you name?

do you like to play games

    i like games

    *laughs*

  • Fuck! Gravemind freaks me out.

  • Rampant? or metastability?

  • most of the mesages from Cortana are what Dr. Halsey said in Halo: Fall of Reach

  • i love how the flood always crash the ships they drive like in amber clad, the pelican in high charity and that brute ship in the cutsceen

  • Prophet of Truth (Loudspeaker): "Whosoever is gripped by fear, take heed. I am the Prophet of Truth... And I am not afraid. Noble Mercy is here at my side. His wise counsel ever in my ears."

Gravemind: "We exist together, now... Two corpses in one grave.

i love those 2 lines from the level high charity how truth lies and and gravemind just talks back "2 corpes in 1 grave" is the gravemids favorite line

  • *2 corpses in one grave* when does that come out???

  • @darkfalco1094 It already did, It resembles when Cortana and the Gravemind where both on the Covenant Holy City; High Charity.

As Cortana was left behind on High Charity and the Gravemind was unable to leave it, it kind of resembled 2 corpses in one grave.

  • Turns out the only thing Cortana actually sent was her ID number. Everything else was from Gravemind. A ploy.

Read "Human Weakness" in Halo Evolutions. It goes over the entire bit with Cortana and Gravemind. Pretty cool.

  • lmao i love that book i love how it goes over more then just Master Chief and with more of a story.

  • the smell of green in my halo 3 game he said then they must love the smell of bad ass

  • mine said something like heroin.what difficulty did you play on?

  • also they must love the smell of a real man

  • 0:37 muhahahahahahahahahahah!

  • I love the start of Halo 3... Cortana explaining the one thing John possessed the other Spartans did not have.

    Luck. She wasn't wrong.

  • great ruins of space elevator

  • omg they shot something that looks like the eiffel tower.

  • oh noes hes a chargin his lazur

  • ok thanks

  • what are spoilers? i never found out what they are.

  • Spoilers are basically ruined surprises. Think of it this way. If I "spoil" the plot for you, that means I tell you the ending before you play through the game yourself.

  • it wasnt a ring and it wasnt a planet either. if you look closely it was like a space station. like the death star in in star wars.

  • Do you fight the Gravemind in Halo 3? DX

Sorry if it's a stupid Question

He just creeps the hell outta me.

    I'm on teh level "Cortana"

Anyway, so any help would be appreciated :]

  • no, once you save cortana you just have to blow up the ship and get out before it explodes.

  • there are like 10 rings idk but it doesnt matter because the covenant and the flood are both destroyed so

  • No, seven. Bungie has a thing for the number seven.

  • 7 rings

  • if halo is shit then why the fuck are u looking at this?

  • Because he's trying to ward off others. He forgets not everyone who doesn't hate Halo is a fanatic fanboy.

  • It's not a ring. It's a planet. But that trilogy will not continue. Other Halo stories might.

  • around 6:17

    seriously

it creeped me out whenever that happened while i was playing

if i were chief, id be like what the hell is happenin, get outta my head 0_0

same w/ cortana, she is creepy

  • 117th rater!!!! lol

does the gravemind say that he is "a timeless curse" or "timeless chorus" ?

i'm still sad with the way then ended Halo 3, but it can be something to give us hope for the NEXT game, like Halo 3: ODST

    lol

    =^.^=

    Teag

  • At first I thought it was curse, but it's definitely chorus. If you can't make it out clearly just by listening, think about the context of the quote. In the same sentence he says "join your voice with mine" and talks about singing victory. Chorus is related to singing, so...there ya go. =D

  • @ShadnicK826 creepy how it sounds like most religions non?

  • @ShadnicK826 When gravemind says "chorus" and "join your voice with mine", he is saying that (as you find in the halo 3 forerunner terminals) a gravemind is a composite of all the Flood, and joining with him means you become part of the Flood. I can hear the prophet of regret sometimes when he speaks. Just another voice in the chorus.

  • @ArbiterGirl Shame odst sucked.

  • @ArbiterGirl chorus

  • @ArbiterGirl a timeless chorus.

  • Is it just my or is Cortana's rack much bigger and more defined? And who here thinks she's a lot cuter now than ever?

  • Ironic, how Hood goes "I'll doubt I'll live long enough to find out", yet he's the only human in that group at Earth in the end xD

  • if u think about it shes been taken over by the gravemind so he could of disabled that function.

  • Correct me if im wrong if anybody knows, but doesn't protocal dictate that any smart A.I. MUST be destroyed (or self destruct)in the event it is no longer under a certain level of UNSC security measures?

  • you are right, but a little confused about one regard. The Cole Protocol states that ALL not just smart but dumb A.I's must be destroyed this is to prevent the covenant from searching it and gaining any knowledge of any human controlled world or territory.

A.I's and I have to use this quote " cannot self terminate." In the event that the human ship is about to be captured, the ship must self destruct

  • Oh so their chip themselves is not built with a termination factor, it relys on the ships?

Ok, that would explain why cortana didn't self terminate at the end of halo 2.

  • Then they must love the smell of green xD

  • on diffrent difficultys he says som other thing like then the love the smell of HERO Or the love the smell of BADASS

  • "They must love the smell of green"

    lmfao

  • you have visions in he game of cortana and gravemind talking to masterchief, not cutscene i played halo

  • Cortana's voice actor = Zoey from Left 4 Dead = Peach from Mario. lol wiki it you faggots.

  • all through the game she appears and then disappears during gameplay

  • This is the way the world ends.

  • what is with cortana in halo 3 ??

  • wat about her exactly?

  • who hear wants to bet that halo 3 pc version will only run on gerforce 9800 or higher or on 8800 geforce

  • I have the 9800. Halooooo 3 is not that powerful. If lags on crysis.

  • posible its like crysis an call of duty 4 mixed together

  • can i haz cheezburger?

  • just incase no one else posted this,

all of the quotes that cortana says in the game when she cuts in and out are from the book fall of reach. most of the quotes she says can be located on pages 30 and 31

  • well she didnt say them DR.hasley did =D lol

  • Correct.

  • Cortana was also made in resemblance to Dr. Hasley and it was Hasley that gave the "You had something the others didn't..." etc/etc speach. Though I find that kind of BS because what's his face who flew the Banshee, crashed, and rolled, stood up, and continued moving; that was luck xD (Halo: First Strike / aftermath of glassing on Reach.) Can't remember who it was.

  • fred an linda...

  • FALL OF REACH AFTERMATH.... an beginging at FIRST STRIKE

  • What's the point of getting a mac if you're just going to run Vista?

  • lol wut? Macs are way overpriced. The specs of the standard mac isn't even great. Everyone knows that macs are for people who don't know shit about computers.

  • Macs suck dick. Enjoy paying $2000 on a computer that does less than my $900 computer.

  • Yeah...except I didn't make any spelling errors, you did. And still are. A good computer can't make up for user stupidity.

  • Come back when you're older and see how bad your spelling is.

    Hypocrite.

  • Wtf why would you even say that Striarii? What DarkWraith said sounds pretty legit to me, Gravemind is pretty badass lol.

  • "I? I am a Monument to your Sins." I hereby nominate that as the most bad-ass line in video-game history.

  • @DarkWraith its also a achiement in halo reach:complete the game on legendary ALONE.

  • so whats the deal with this cortana chik cos i'm playing halo 3 right now but haven't played number 1 and 2

  • cortana is the unsc's most complicated A.I. (artificial intelligence) and she is basically the brains while master chief is the warrior. she tells master chief wuts going on, and wut to do

  • i heard that there connecting the marathon series with halo....that was the planet that the chief was floating to....

  • jeez, bungie just needs to make a huge game about halo, along with a bunch of destiny shit about MC and revealing secrets that blow ur friken pants off...... :p

  • Cortana's got such a melodic voice!

  • Well, I bought MY Xbox360 for Halo 3. Totally worth it.

  • Hell yeah, I totally agree bgibson36. Though I do have other stuff for 360 now lol.

  • ya me too, the other 2 halo games XD and others lol

  • at bout 3.30 its not cortana sayin that stuff. its the super genious catherine halsey the person cortana is based around and made on. in the book the fall of reach she says that stuff to the spartans when they are kids. so technically its not cortana its dr halsey

  • no technically dr hasley made cortanas personality like hers so cortana is a shadow of dr hasley as she intended to be and cortana has all of her memories and gravemind is trying to take them like they did to captin keyes

  • There's a marine in the background in the end of the cutsecenes at the level The Storm 5:16to 5:26. Wierd!

  • ya that happened to me, i think it was becuz he was there wen u destroy the turret

  • yea i know

  • I love how these visions are references from the books!

  • wtf both n] cortana AND GRAVEMIND ARE MASTER CHIEFS SOUL!??! HOW DO THEY CONTROL HIM!??!!?!!! isnt those Visions!?!?!

  • They're not MC's soul, and he isn't being controlled by Cortana nor Gravemind during those brief flashes. They are visions lol. When you see Cortana in MC's HUD, it's memories of Cortana and transmissions of Cortana during her rampancy. When you see Gravemind, it's Gravemind communicating to him. Not control, communication.

  • why is the Flood called "The Flood"?

    I'm new to Halo...lol

  • Probably because once it is released, the Flood kills all life and has no weakness, like an unstoppable flood.

The only way the Flood can be stopped was thought to be by killing all of its food, meaning ALL living life in the galaxy; in Halo 3, Cortana discovered that if you isolate the Flood outside of the galaxy and activate another Halo outside of the galactic rim, then Halo's destructive force couldn't reach inside the galaxy, therefore killing the Flood without depopulating the galaxy.

  • one thing ive never understood:

"i have defied gods and demons".

what did she mean by that?

  • Actually I think that was showing the rampant side of Cortana, as if her saying that was Gravemind talking through her. It would make sense because Gravemind "defied" the Forerunners, who were the first enemies of the Flood and considered to be "gods" by the Covenant. Also, Gravemind tricked Master Chief in Halo 2 by sending him to High Charity to get the Index for him, and in Halo 3 by turning on him at the end of the level "Covenant", and MC is considered a "demon" by the Covenant.

  • yeah! ok that makes sense.

i try my hardest to learn as much Halo knowledge as i can.

    thanks dude!

P.S. you got a Halopedia account?

  • Glad to help with your hunt for fictional knowledge lol.

I don't have an account, but sometimes I go there and read about Halo just for kicks. It's got a lot of stuff about the Halo universe that I didn't know about.

  • child of my enemy why have you come?

i offer no forgiveness for the fathers sins passed to his son...

  • I dont know y they added cortana in those scenes. I did like that we got to see some of Cortana but they were just jibberish confusing usless and kinda creepy.

  • no way, that far away! More like 2020 or maybe 2035

  • Shit at 0:30 it scared me.

  • i like very much cortana. do you think i can have an AI like her?

  • anyone can, if he is good programing AI

  • hey if your peace why kill bob joe and steve

  • oh and if your wandering how geavemin d seriveved high charitey he used 2401 pentacen oracals telppartaion however only part of him can go throw the telportation deviec so he rebulid him selv on halo and you know the rest

  • who gravemind?i thot it was hi charity

  • @Steelchainz Gravemind is like the Flood leader and High Charity is the Covenant's holy city

  • @s0d3rb3rg

    ohh thx

  • You always jump! Why do you have to jump?! One of these days, you're gonna land on something as stubborn as you!

  • So, when Master Chief activated the new Halo, he killed the Flood Hive and the Gravemind, which is pretty much the main part of the Flood. Since the Ark is outside the Milky Way Galaxy, activating the new Halo above it didn't affect the Covenant, Earth, etc.

Also, the new Halo was unfinished; activating it immediately after its formation resulted in self-destruction, so it fell to the surface of the Ark. You can imagine what a 99908097980709870798 ton planet can do when it falls on something =P

  • Yes, it was the Ark. Remember, the newly formed Halo was created by the Ark to replace the one Master Chief destroyed. I think Cortana figured out the Ark could do that; so, her "solution" was also the Index she held onto from the original Halo. Gravemind and the new Flood hive in High Charity showed up at the Ark via the portal above Earth to stop Truth from activating the Halos...

  • raves prediction on another halo is correct, their may be another halo game, if you finish it on legendary, the cut scene shows him floating towards onix, where there are some more sparatans traped there, however it is not 100% confirmed.

  • theres still one thing i dont understand about the halo series, whats the forerunner?

  • Forerunners are an ancient race of people who built the seven Halos and the ARK. The Covenant worship the Forerunners. They are the "gods" the Covenant refer to, and Forerunner technology is the basis for much of the Covenant technology. The humans, as it turns out, are descendants of the Forerunners, which is why we are the "Reclaimers" and is why the Covenant need us to activate Halo.

  • Milennia ago, the Forerunners had to activate the Halo system because the Flood spread across the galaxy. The Forerunners were wiped out along with the Gravemind that existed in that time and the Flood. Apparently, some Forerunners survived, possibly on Onyx, and the Flood too. Since then, another Gravemind slowly formed in the depths of Delta Halo until humanity and the Covenant exposed it to the rest of the galaxy.

Also, the ship the Covenant used to activate the Portal was Forerunner tech.

  • thanks for the story, quite intresting =)

  • Glad I could be informative. ^_^

  • @hjpro153 an ancient alien race that constructed the Halo rings and the sentinel and monitor robots :D

  • @s0d3rb3rg the forunners are us past humans. 343 said to chief you are forerunners children

  • @darkraioxxx no, the Forerunners are a whole different race. Check halopedia

  • Can someone explain to me: Who is gravemind?/ What is h, when was he introduced in thehalo seris, and do you know if you get to fight/kill him in halo3?

  • he was introduced in halo 2 and he died on the lvl cortona at the end

and gravemind is the flood leader

  • he didnt die at the end of cortana, in the lvl halo on Halo 3 not 1, wen ur almost to the controll room, he says sumet

  • if 1 spartan can take down the covenant,THINK WHAT AN ARMY OF THEM CAN DO IN HALO WARS

  • to understand most of what Cortana says, you have to read the Halo novels, especially the first.

  • 1 spartan to own them all :)

  • 1 odst pwns master chief

  • when cortana says: 'u will become the best we can make u'

does she mean to make MC a flood or what?

  • No, I think that was actually a memory of what Cortana's creator had said to the Spartan II soldiers. Read leppardazn's comments on this vid for more info on those flash-visions. :)

  • ok :D

  • Probaly a better spartan?

  • Alot of the messages were things Dr. Halsey said to the Spartans and things Cortana referenced when she was first introduced to MC. The rest I think is a stage in AI rampancy where they continuously say poems and stuff. Hey ShadnicK!! message me because I have a big theory for why MC gets these visions.

  • Since MC and Cortana's mind were so close it's no wonder that a fraction of Cortana's memory crystal was left in MC's memory-processory matrix in his armor. Dr. Halsey flash-cloned her brain to use it for Cortana since the UNSC needed the "best" mind. Dr. Halsey also created the Spartans and is trapped on a forerunner world and knows some of the forerunner plan. Halo, the sword, and Onyx, the shield. She also remains with the remaining Spartan-IIs and even Spartan-IIIs.

  • ShadnickK826 is it? John-117 and Cortana's mind were in sync by a factor of 2 percent, and even closer thanks to Cortana's modifications. The first few visions were things Dr. Halsey said to the Spartans when they were 6 conscripted into the military and into Spartan-II program. Dr. Halsey created Kalmiya,Cortana's "older" sister and copied all of her algorithims to Cortana and corrected all mistakes.

  • did anyone notice that the arbiters first words were "were it so easy" those are the exact same words as the ones he said at the end

  • words so easy

  • No AppleCheese is right, it's "were it so easy" at the beginning and end.

  • i thought it was woried so easy

  • No, "Were it so easy." I'm not sure what he's referring to. It's up to analytical debate I guess. =)

  • well I can only guess, by heres my guess: on the first (second if you like) cutscene when he sais it, i think he might mean "were it so easy for us to kill eachother" (it could be one another) at the ending cutscene (the memorial one not after credits) I think he might mean "it so easy to help the cheif along the war" or somthing like that, but guess we'll never find out or have to wait along time to find out.

  • Actually, he is saying that it would not be that easy for Chief to kill him.

  • no, you see, if you watch the scene it goes a bit like this, the armiter (or whatever his name is) takes of his active camo and cheif shoves a magnem uo to his throut, then sargent jonson sias: "come on now, its hard enough with you two trying to kill eachother" then thats when he sais "were it so easy" meaning that its not so easy for us both to get killed. (sorry for bad spelling and such, I've got a headache and cant think properly.

  • No, because the Arbiter says it in a way that shows he is stating his superiority over MC. At that point the Arbiter and the Chief aren't too friendly.

  • imrlybord71 is right.

Arbiter is essentially saying "Don't flatter yourself by thinking you could kill so easy, punk" There is a slight threatening tone implying he would certainly give MC the fight of his life.

  • What was the purpose of Cortana and Gravemind entering your head and saying all this Shakespearean stuff to you during gameplay?

  • Oh, those flashes from Cortana (i THINK) were her trying to send him messages. There were these things called the Cortana letters or somethin' and I think what she said in the flashes were those. They were supposed to create suspense and mystery probably. Gravemind was just plain talking to MC sometimes, but others it sounded to me like he was addressing a wider audience with the purpose of brainwashing ie "I am peace...I am salvation."

  • Cortana letters?

  • The Cortana letters were E-mails sent sometime before the release of Halo from "Cortana from Bungie". A famous line is Your freind T. S. Eliot was wrong, THIS is the way the world ends".

  • no it was to piss you off and make you wish your running didnt slow down :P
