  • Hey! can you make me one? I am an awful person at doing things like that! Thanks

  • @emcmuffin100 Sorry! I don't make tails for others as the fit can be very difficult to achieve without the proper measurements and re-sizing... It's quite a process!

You can buy different tails online though! There are fabric tails on ebay or websites and silcone or latex (expensive) online

Check them out and Thanks for watching!

  • thank you soooooooo muuch for the information my dream it's make a mermaid tail thank you so much..!!!!! <3 ;)

  • Would the Wave work for someone who is a size 8 shoe? They've discontinued the Tempo :(

  • @mermaidgirl9595 WHat? Seriously? Are you sure it wasn't just one particular store???

I don't know what size would work, whatever each fin size says should fit that size... good luck though! That sucks if true!

  • @FWMGirl88 I'm like, 99% sure they did. If you check ANY site that did carry them before, they don't now! :'(

    I was really disappointed.

  • @mermaidgirl9595 Wow! That does suck!

I wonder if the replacement straps are still available. I probably need a pair of those. lol

  • @FWMGirl88 Yeah :( ...I DID see the replacement straps though! They've still got those.

  • @mermaidgirl9595

I had the same problem but actually they have changed the Wave monofin and it fits women's sizes 2-8. I guess they just made it more for everyone rather than little kids.

  • what if u dont have a monofin or fins what do u do if u alredy made it and dont have them ?

  • @salena677 well I guess it depends on how you made your tail. . . I don't really know how well I can answer this question just because it's such a vague one... I suppose you could unstitch whatever seams you made around the fluke (where the monofin would go) area, and sew onto your original - more fabric (in strips) that should expand it enough for you to fit a pair of fins or monofin in it...

    hope this helps!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Hehe , Your My Insperation :)

Ive Made 6 Mermaid Tails On My 7th ,

(this one purple) And This One Im Using A Diffrent Monofin To My Old Ones Im Using A Finis WAVE , By Any Chance Is It Diffrent Blade size To The Tempo ? (not shoe size blade size) :) THANKS !

  • @DeepCrystalMermaid I believe the fluke size doesn't vary between the tempo and the wave. The tempo and the rapid, however does vary slightly.

    Thanks for watching!

  • where do you buy a cheap monofin?

  • I think to find a 'cheap' monofin would just take some web surfing to find a good deal. The cheapest I've seen is around $30.

    Thanks for watching!

  • love the song choice my g-ma loves her

  • I wear a woman's 10 1/2 to 11 do i use the rapid instead?

  • Most likely. I'm thinking about going up to the rapid cause I'm around a 9 or 9 1/2 so it's very snug on the tempo.

    Thanks for watching!

  • the tail featured in this video... is this the tail in the blue tail day and the blue night videos?

  • No the tail used in this video is not the tail I'm wearing in the Blue Day and Night videos.

This was my first waterproof tail. (it's a greenish vinyl)

    Thanks for watching!

  • hey thanks, and ur write, it should be shared with everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i really wanna try this but i dont know how to ask my parents for the supplys, i know what i need, jetset which is water proof fabric that is shimmery, a sewing machine, ect. but how do i ask my mom to help me get that stuff?

  • how did u get the tail

  • I made it.

Watch the video, I explain it briefly and easily.

  • what is the tail called and where can u buy it from???

  • a mermaid tail? I guess... I made it. You can google it though, there are people out there who make AND sell them.

    Thanks for watching!

  • amaizing!!!! what do you think you could use for designs? fabrick paint wouldnt look right and neither would embroibery i dont think i spelled that right.

    lace and frills maybe?

  • What's the song in the background?

  • Music is by Enya "One By One"

    Thanks for watching!

  • wave fins cost less than the tempos. You can get them from amazon for $45

  • this vid helps i am making my own tail

  • this is great im gonna make my own tail soon :) xx

  • you are AMAZING YOU ROCK

  • hey were did ya get your material?(i hope i spelt it right!)

  • Joanns for this tail's fabric.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Wow! This is so cool but idk if I can actually sew one myself!

  • aw man i have to get rapid! my monofin was 1 size smaller :[ i was soooooo sad

  • Mine too! I'm a standard women's 8.5 and had to exchange my tempo for the rapid.

  • dosnt that stink?

  • n were do ya get the water proof material??

  • were did u get the mono fin??

  • thankies hun much appreciated

  • awsum

  • that is really consiterate of you to share...thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  • Thanks a lot!!! I probably won't have the time to make one, but I'm one of those silly people who like knowing how to do funky projects like this in case the did have the time for them! Rock on!

  • are those horses on your wall?

    do you ride also?

  • lol yup[, what girl doesn't like horses?

    Thanks for watching! :)

  • haha very true very true. "A pony is a childhood dream, a horse is a lifelong treasure"

mermaids and horses....could it get anymore girly? XD

  • OMG you are SO cool. I ride horses, they're my life and I love mermaids. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • your really pretty

  • Where did you get your vinal or whatever fabric? Thank you

    ~MermaidEmily

  • not to be mean, or doubt ur work, but it does work in the water right? o. wen u get in the modofin from underneath, do u sew the end of the tail to, or should i just get a zipper for that?

  • With this tail I didn't put a zipper or sew the opening for the monofin, and because of this you could always see the monofin peeking out. In my new tail I put a zipper along the bottom of my tail, and it looks great. (And both of my tails are fully functional in water.)

  • o. thank u.

  • did you put foam?

  • thanks

  • your not yourself in this video, why

  • hey how many yards do you have to have for the swimmers fabric i want to make my own so how many yards

  • will it work with normal fins, because my monofin in BUSTED

  • Of course. You'd just have to make your tail's fluke to fit the flippers in place of a monofin.

    thanks for watching!

  • Ah. Thanks.

  • i am going to put on a video just like this please watch it!

  • this vid is cool but she has 2 explan more & her orange bottom is showing!=X

  • Love this video!

  • where do u get a monofin

  • Amazon, or other online shops:)

  • online, like finiest tempo

  • ............whats the fabric???I didnt hear it good.....Is it thick so you cant see the legs...please answer!!!!

  • It's vinyl

  • does vinyl cut straight

  • i cn here enya in the background so u like enya

  • Thanks Aluriaphin! I'll be sure to get a Tempo. :)

  • For a person with a shoe size of 8, what would you reccomend, a Wave monofin or Tempo monofin?

  • Waves are for Youth, sizes 1-6, and they run small, so for a size 8 shoe, get one of the adult models for sure. If you are a woman then get a Tempo, a man then the Rapid. :D

  • yes, TOTALLY worth it!!

  • Hey is your design like the Sashas

  • by the way I would love to make a tail, about how much does one cost to make! Awesome!!!!!:)

  • it doesnt cost to much all you need is a yard or 2 of dancer/swimmer fabric so thats about $10.00-at least $20.00ish (depending on the fabric) then some thread scissors (lol cant spell 2day) a sewing machine and a monofin which is like $40.00ish-$60.00 so its not that bad if u hav most of the stuff already

  • wont the zipper rust after time?

  • i rele rele rele wanna tail! ive been asking mi mom if i can go out and get the stuff but we just dont rele kno where to get tehm, like the mono fin. can u help?

  • Hey, I've got my own homemade tail. I'm using the Tempo monofin, and I was wondering if you might have had the same problem I've been having. The strap on the back that goes around your ankles, it keeps slipping. I've made it as tight as I can and if it went any tighter, I don't think I'd be able to get it on. So, how do I keep it from slipping off?

  • I've definitly had a problem with the straps on the monofin. I've had to buy replacement straps,as I've broken them, lol For fitting, they do fit a little awkwardly, I used duct tape... that seemed to help. But it's really just getting used to the fact that it's gonna slip a little.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Can you please post the measurements for the Tempo Monofin? I want to make a mermaid tail with my grandma (cause she knows a lot about sewing) but it won't be here in time, but I really want to make one so PLEASE POST THE MONOFIN MEASUREMENTS!!!!!!!

  • Do you think it would work if i used normal flippers and not a monofin? Flippers seem a bit cheaper so do you think it would work?

  • Of course!!! Flippers or a monofin, both work just fine. ^_^ I own both, I love my monofin, flippers work just as well and sometimes look better. (more of a dolphin fluke than a manatee's squareish fluke.)

  • I asked my friend what color tail she could have, and she said green, and I said black, and now it's true that black tails are beautiful!

  • would it be possible to cut the monofin to a desired shape?

oh and by the way, i love your hair and you are very pretty.

  • how much did it all cost?

  • It cost me around $75 for everything. So it was quite a steal considering how much they go for to have one made online. Thanks for your comment!

  • me too i want too sooooo baaaad

  • do u think i should make a tail im 10?i want to but should i ?

  • FWMGIRL88 I was wondering how do you hold your breath

  • FMWgirl88 I was wonderinghoe do you hold your breath

  • hi, i was wondering, becayse i don't have much experience in fins, are the tempo monofins ajustable since my feet are growing all the time (grr)lol

    thx again

  • With my new tail I will be putting a zipper at the opening for the monofin, as to hide it. And it shouldn't be too hard, I just need to find a stainless steel jacket zipper, so it won't rust in the ocean. lol

  • Thank you so much!! I've seen your vids and your hecka graceful in the water. But anyway, I'm excited about making one because it's going to be summer soon so I'll be able to use it alot! Again, thanks a million!

  • Where can I get a cheap Mono Fin (womans)

  • Lots of places online sell monofins just do a google search, you shoukd find plenty that way. Good luck! ^_^

  • i totally agree with telling tail secrets! my dad is making 2, one for me and one for my mate. (like h2o just add water) we are not using flippers or monofin, our fin is built in. the fabric we are gonna use is neoprine.(wetsuit matierial.

  • can u ask your dad 4 the design i really want to make one

  • there isn't really a design, we just stuck the flipper shoe bits onto acrilic plastic, with the fin shape cut out on it, by bolting them to it and sticking using silicon, and are now spraying on expandable foam, to create a more realistic look. then we will cover in neoprine, and paint it. a.k.a (scales). x x chloe x x

  • i absatively posilutely wanna make one I am a big fan Yvette

  • Girl, you're awesome. Thanks so much for the video, love your personality and willingness to share with other fellow mermaid lovers.

  • um woooooooah

  • Thanks for explaining how to make a mermaid tail ^_^

  • thank you for making this!!! but where do u get the monofin?

  • HAI! This is Joshinu-Panther From dA.

I'm very excited to see this, cause now, I'm going to make one. Hopefully, I'll be able to put videos of me up soon. :3

    This is exciting! :D

  • how much did the monifn cost you? where can i find a cheap one?

  • I luv your video!!! But my really important question is where do you buy a monofin???? I really want one because ive been looking on line EVERYWHERE! they r soooooooo expensive!

  • u get them by searchin on google and ordering one

  • how much does the vinyl cost? me n my friend really want to make our own but we dont know how much its going to cost

  • usely its like 10 bucks a yard!

  • how longs a yard? soz im nt v good with measurements hehe

  • 3 feet= a yard

  • thanks :)

  • well no duh!

  • how do you keep your monofin to stay in?

  • So...do local pools generally let people swim around like this?

  • poeple who luv mermaids check out hannah fraser on youtube

  • where did u buy ur monofin from plz help!!!

  • fwmgirl88 my monofin keeps falling off how and i avoid it?

  • so cool! i want a tail, but i'll have to save up a bit for the vinyal!

  • omg!! i have the sane monofin!!!! they dont sell them in england so i had to have mine imported, i love mine soooooooo much but unfortunatly i can only use mine in the summer coz the sea is too cold in the winter :(

  • Hi. i love this video and it help me to make my own tail. imagine...i'm from uruguay and i used this video. your tail its so grate! thank you.

    byee!!!

  • ye me to and i like how you put the mono fins on to

  • Mehlinda I would love to see a video of you putting on your tail and bra. I have always been curious what it is like to put one on. I am not being a perve. I just want to see a girl put on a mermaid suit. Thanks.

  • I have 1 question, where do you get the vinayl and how much does it cost?

  • Where do you get the vynil?

    E-mail the answer to me.

  • Awesome! glad that you told me you had this on here.

  • You're most welcome, thanks for commenting ya'll!

  • Nice video! I sewed my tail from ordinary polyester material (the kind they make those long-lasting bathingsuits out of) and use a different kind of monofin also by Finis, but fibreglass with neoprene rails. Future merfolk, make sure you wear your neoprene socks! I don't want anyone getting Achilles tendonitis out there! Keep up the great work, safe diving!

  • Thanks for the pointers it would eaiser and cheaper to make than buying from the tail man the person who made the tails for Splash, Splash, Too, Ring of Light, and the first episode of the fifth episode of Charmed because his tails all cost like hundreds of dollars but he also happens to sell monofins too and those tails are made from polyurethane 250 for kids, 300 for women and 350 for men. Also I have to say is thanks again.

  • That was really cool. Thanks for posting the vids. You look like you're having so much fun swiming in your costume. Take care!

  • I loved seeing you swim in the water and thank you for sharing your design. (although I'm not a mermaid that swims in the water but rather sits in a boat playing the harp). My costume requires walking. Check out my videos to see my costumes. I sew sequence pieces (you can buy appliques at fabric stores) onto my costume, especially the bra. I like the shimmer especially when the light hits it, it really look like a fish scales,

if you have any questions feel free to ask

    mehlinda

  • Hannah, that was a wonderful video. You're just as innovative as those "American Inventor" guys. But I still can't w8 2 c u in the water again. Keep it up, sweetheart!

  • She ain't Hannah Fraser

  • thanks burnouthappy! i thought this video was gonna show and tell you all this but it didn't, although i still do think she has a lovely tail, thanks for the info! :D

  • um this is FWMgirl88 not burnouthappy,

  • Nice way but I think I will stick with her way... urs seems a bit complicated

  • Well, that is because she generalized and said "there is a seam here and here" and I told you HOW to make it. Of course mine sounds complicated, making a tail IS complicated.

  • Take your material that you bought, and fold it the "hotdog" way with the design/good sides facing in toward each other. Lay the pattern on top, and trace the design, fluke and all. Then pin all the way around the pattern marks. Cut an inch away from the marks, and sew the tail all the way around. Then, fold the top waistline over, and sew it. Try it on, and make adjustments where needed, and BAM! You have a tail =)

  • Then, on the big piece of paper, where the ankle marks end, put your flippers down where they should be if you were wearing them, and design your fluke around the flippers. The you can design your fluke/fins however you want. Cut the pattern out.

  • To make a tail you need a pattern, measure around your waist, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles, and measure how far down each is. Take the measurement around and divide it in half. Then take those measurements, plus how far down each measurement it, and graph them out on big paper. You should have what looks like legs stuck together.

  • See, I dont find vinyl to be a suitable material for a tail simply because it is not stretchy, and you cant manouver as well. Also, it is not pourus, and when water gets trapped inside the tail, it has nowhere to go, and it gets heavy and waterlogged.

I make my tails out of bathing suit/dance material, easily found at Jo~Anne's. You can get it in regular colours or you can get it in hologram shiny colours that actually look like scales. And with the stretchy material, you dont need a zipper.

  • ok sorry to bother you..but how does one move in a monofin and in a monofin in a tail? how does one move their body or legs? do you have to use your whole body or just your legs? thanks. and if you happen to be pretty small/skinny can you use a monofin? lol. :)

  • wow your 19 your young i thought you where older but anyways just saying hi and good job on what you do

  • Aww :) Isn't it fun to be a mermaid! :)

  • Thankyou!! I've been wanting to make my own tail for a while now but I never knew what material to use etc so thanks alot :)

  • This is going to sound really silly - but I didn't think you were going to sound like that! I've seen you swimming as a mermaid - and it was quite a shock to put a voice to you!

Anyway, fascinating subject! Keep it up.

  • tell it girl speak the truth

  • how much are monofins and do u really need 1?

  • Oh this is SO cool! and since my Gran has a cottage by a lake, I can try to make a tail and go swimming! Thanks so much for sharing, I really wanna try :)

  • I just got my monofin and tail yesterday, are the plastic things in the foot pockets SUPPOSED to be there, or do you take them out? My foot is too small for the pockets without the plastic inserts tho.

  • You take the plastic inserts out, they're there for shipping, to keep their form.

Awesome!!! Make a vid! Or takes some pictures and make a slideshow!!!

  • When I take the inserts out and tighten the straps a few of my toes go over that little ridge at the end of the pockets, when I loosen it to where my toes are behind the ridge it's too loose to stay on! HELP!

  • You're toes are suppose to stick out. Mine stick out a bunch cause otherwise they won't fit. ^_^

  • i find that wearing normal socks, fold the ends over so they look like trainer socks and then put the monofin stops your feet from slipping out and you don't have to stick your toes past the ridge... it also makes it more comfortable. also i turned the strap upside down so that the tabs on the straps don't acctually push the straps off.... this makes it alot easier and takes your mind off worrying about the fin coming of while your swimming

  • the plastic inserts are just to keep the foot pockets the rite shape, when using the monofin you have to take them out.

  • Hi fwmgirl I'm Mermark a merguy in PA. I enjoyed watching your video's! You are a true artist on makeing tails! I had mine done by a hollywood FX team. My tail is about 8 feet long and i LOVE being in it!!Would be cool to swim with a girl who is as into mermaids as much as you!

  • This is very interesting and complements your video collection - 5 star presentation!

  • When i saw you r fist vid i was going to make a tail like the one in the movie splash, but i didnnt think it would work out. But now i'm going to make like a cross between h2o and aquamarine. I'm sewing fabric then covering in silicone sealent with very thin plastic scale glued over it. I tride it on one of my brother's action figure and it worked!. If y tail turns out well i'm goin to make a vid on how to make it.

  • OMG u like H2o i do too! I alsol love aquamarine! one of my favorite movies!

  • good luck!

  • hi!!! wow its a nice thing you did there!!!! i have one question for you!! i have the same monofin as you and i was wondering how to not put the monofin in the tail permanently. i saw the open side at the end of your tail but how to you close it in the water? velcro? thanks and continue your great work

    emilie

  • I'm not sure what I'm going to use to close it off at the bottom. Mabe velcro as you said or a magnet seal.

    Thanks!!!

  • "Awesome... And you can really see how cool it is because of you. You're so passionate about stuff like this, it really makes other people see it better."

  • Thanks so much!!!

    I'm glad ya'll enjoyed it!

  • oooh thank you!!!

  • Well Done!

  • This is awsome! I made two tails not too long ago... they didn't really turn out too well, but I've never tried vinyl, I'll have to try that. Thank you for uploading (and making) this vid!

  • Cool!!! You'll have to upload a vid or slideshow of your tails. ^_^

    Thanks!!!

  • You are so bomb ^ ^ I gotta try vinyl sometime. They look so nice and shiny. I cant wait to see more videos!

  • Isn't the inside uncomfortable? Rubs against your legs really bad?

  • No actually. You'd think it'd be rough But it's really nice! (quite smooth) Even when wet. (which is important obvisously)

  • hey this is so kool cand you send me all the stuff i need to get and where to get them so i can make my own tails? thank you so much!

  • HEY SISTA!!!!!!!! lol. trhank your for uploading tis!! awesome Enya song too...one by one.....love it. and aweseome tails. I wish I have them! lol. :)

  • Sure!

    Indeed, Enya is great!
