Very foolish how they write Frasier as a super ethical truth teller in this episode (and others), yet Frasier is a bold face liar when it comes to women (and other significant issues), which is why he's always single.. He always lies and ends up getting caught in his lies and eventually gets dumped.
For A a supposedly intelligent man Frasier could really be a naive twit who only sees things in Black and White. What kind of guy puts his ethics ahead of the well being of a member of his family, especially when it's all said and done noone needed to find out he would have lied under oath. He knew Niles feelings for Daphnae had nothing to do with the marrige failing and yet he would have let him lose that case knowing that!
@CitizenAngel I agree. He sees ethics as a completely immovable and unchanging set of rules when really ethics adapt situationally. I is not ALWAYS wrong to lie, for example. In this situation, MY ethics would tell me that it was more important to protect my family then to make a useless claim in a petty court case, even if it was under oath.
Lol, it's so hilarious how Marty talks about that 'some people need an escape from facing a problem' while drinking scotch, and Niles being under the piano.
i never noticed it and this is one of my fave episodes of the series but as Martin is railing on frasier for running away, and he pours himself a drink, niles is cleaning the underside of the piano with his washcloth!
Frasier is a tit in this episode. That he would put his ethics ahead of his brother's happiness. The fact that he even has to think about it...for someone who is supposedly very intelligent he at times see's things in black and white.
cats!! that IS original. There is no endearing word for balls of dust. In Korean, I do believe it is just "balls of dust." Not that Korean is a boring language.
oh please acrobatic, it's not that frasier is always a compulsive truth teller, it's that he's going to be under oath and his ethics won't allow him to lie under oath. that is entirely consistent with the rest of the show.

frasier isn't a compulsive truth teller. he lies in just about every single episode. and now that its convenient for the story the writers invent the fact that he's a compulsive truth teller. these writers are so lazy.
I love Frasier but he annoyed the living crap out of me with that whole ethics diatribe. Niles is his brother, period. If you can't count on family, who the hell can you count on? More importantly, him knowing that his brother was really nothing more than a victim of Maris's selfishness. And, yes, I know full well it's only TV show, but this one issue struck a nerve, I suppose.
I liked how principled Frasier is. It's consistent with his personality. Remember the episode where he refused to leave the parking garage and pay $2? lol
He's a real stickler when it comes to sticking by his beliefs!
I think it means that Donny is convinced that, because Frasier never will lie in court, he will say that Niles is NOT in love with Daphne (because Donny doesnt know that he is).
What does it say on that glass door behind Frasier at about 4:40? It looks like Chenberd. Does it mean something?
Can anyone explain how Frasier and Niles's father is a kind of tough-talking cop, while on Cheers, Frasier's mother was an upper-crust snob psychaitrist? How did they get together? On Cheers, Frasier descends from pilgrims who arrived in America with a 'small personal fortune.' How do they explain the social disparity between the parents on Frasier?
It is suggested sometimes in the show(especially when old friends from 'Cheers' appear in the show) that Frasier lied or exaggerated things in 'Cheers' to seem more 'important'...
@LitCrit101 It's explained a couple of times in the show that Frasier's parents met at a crime scene(a murder.) Not sure what their mother was doing there, unless she was helping to profile the perpetrator.
This series is the most exquisite interplay of brilliant writing and brilliant acting. David Pierce, Kelsey Grammar, John Mahoney and Eddy the Dog are utterly superb comic actors. I wonder whether Jane Leeves ever learnt anything by working with them.
Poor Niles, he should have told her ages ago, but a character of such week constitution are we not suprised that it took the good length of the series to get the gumption to express how he feels. But the statement about broken hearts. Can't some of you out there agree with me that life feels that way sometimes? M

wow...Frasier did appear insensitive when he wouldn't lie for Niles...but luckily he changed when he told Niles about Daphne's feelings before their wedding, breaking up 2 marriages.
