  • Very foolish how they write Frasier as a super ethical truth teller in this episode (and others), yet Frasier is a bold face liar when it comes to women (and other significant issues), which is why he's always single.. He always lies and ends up getting caught in his lies and eventually gets dumped.

  • Once again Marty rules!

  • Niles never wins............that's Niles lives at the Shangra La and drives a HATCHBACK! David Hyde Peirce cracks me the hell up

  • Dad drinks, Frasier runs away, and Niles hides.

  • For A a supposedly intelligent man Frasier could really be a naive twit who only sees things in Black and White. What kind of guy puts his ethics ahead of the well being of a member of his family, especially when it's all said and done noone needed to find out he would have lied under oath. He knew Niles feelings for Daphnae had nothing to do with the marrige failing and yet he would have let him lose that case knowing that!

  • @CitizenAngel I agree. He sees ethics as a completely immovable and unchanging set of rules when really ethics adapt situationally. I is not ALWAYS wrong to lie, for example. In this situation, MY ethics would tell me that it was more important to protect my family then to make a useless claim in a petty court case, even if it was under oath.

  • I love Niles so much. He's cute, shy, sweet, sensitive, educated, funny-----how did it take him and Daphne so long to find each other/

  • The scene in the kitchen with Frasier and Martin at 4:40 is excellent.

  • Lol, it's so hilarious how Marty talks about that 'some people need an escape from facing a problem' while drinking scotch, and Niles being under the piano.

  • Hilarious how Marty talks about escaping problems as he pourshimself a drink - LOL - The Irony

  • Rofl - whisper it to her over a candlelit dinner...I wonder how Niles feels about having Frasier blab it out while on painkillers?

  • i never noticed it and this is one of my fave episodes of the series but as Martin is railing on frasier for running away, and he pours himself a drink, niles is cleaning the underside of the piano with his washcloth!

  • Frasier is a tit in this episode. That he would put his ethics ahead of his brother's happiness. The fact that he even has to think about it...for someone who is supposedly very intelligent he at times see's things in black and white.

  • 3:57 ... wow, Niles caught something for once in his life.

  • 3:59 - 4:28 damn, martin gives good speech!

  • I can't breathe....Lol. David hyde pierce you are a riot.

  • This is hard stuff to think about.

  • I love the english language to name something so dirty and musty "Dustbunnies." It's so endearing.

  • @hbanana7

Really? In Polish we just call it "cats". And in yours?

  • cats!! that IS original. There is no endearing word for balls of dust. In Korean, I do believe it is just "balls of dust." Not that Korean is a boring language.

  • hey! I'm studying it, and writting my MA dissertation ;>

  • no way!!! my mother language! You may know more about Korean language orgins than I!

  • Don't think so. I'm writting the dissertation about 용비어천가, and I'm drowning in old korean and hanja. ;>

  • That!!! sounds like a handful and years of researching. I hope it's going smoothly. I have much interest in linguitics.

  • i liked that speech martin gave frasier

  • oh please acrobatic, it's not that frasier is always a compulsive truth teller, it's that he's going to be under oath and his ethics won't allow him to lie under oath. that is entirely consistent with the rest of the show.

  • he says 'escape' not 'mistake'.. you dont even get what you're talking about.

  • I think someone needs a hug...

  • "If I could take deep breaths that means I could breathe!!"

  • It was all for naught anyways - Frasier did end up telling Daphne about a year later.

  • John Mahoney is a hell of an actor.

  • you got that right

  • Haha I love Niles. :]

  • Niles is so cute under that piano!

  • "Daphne is going to find out about this"

"Not if you crawl out before she gets home"

    hahaha i love it

i love Niles face after Martin says tht

    hes adorable

  • Great acting !!!

  • "Ethics are what we do when no one else is looking."

    Fantastic quote!!

  • I love Frasier but he annoyed the living crap out of me with that whole ethics diatribe. Niles is his brother, period. If you can't count on family, who the hell can you count on? More importantly, him knowing that his brother was really nothing more than a victim of Maris's selfishness. And, yes, I know full well it's only TV show, but this one issue struck a nerve, I suppose.

  • Oh come on. Frasier admitted he'd lie under oath to a talking comet. What more do you want?

  • "Niles never wins, Niles always loses. That´s why Niles lives at the Shangrila and drives a hatchback lol

  • Lovely reference to the "Moon Dance" episode at the beginning here.

  • i adore niles! he is such a lovee! <3333 its hilarious when he panics!

  • gah

fraiser is so effin annoyin about tellin the truth

  • I found his compulsion to tell the truth inspiring. As an attorney, I applaud him. No jokes, please. I am serious.

  • I liked how principled Frasier is. It's consistent with his personality. Remember the episode where he refused to leave the parking garage and pay $2? lol

He's a real stickler when it comes to sticking by his beliefs!

  • LOL I remember the Parking Garage incident.

He so needs to let stuff go sometimes and remember to just be human...and yes I know he isn't real lol

  • I agree! :)

  • @sha8808 I know. I'd lie for my siblings any day

  • Niles: "If I could take deep breaths it would mean I could breathe!" lol

  • bravo, marty!..-morale fiber is really annoying.i have been there

  • Frasier should definitely take his brother's side, and not reveal Niles' love for Daphne.

Lies are necessary sometimes, to protect those you love.

  • All i've got to contend with under here is a couple of dust bunnies! Lol!

  • Compulsive truth telling...like Fraiser said that Niles DID throw money around when Donny wanted him to lie?

  • "to save mankind from a talking comet, yes"

    XD

  • he doesn't wear glasses here, but dhp on letterman was wearing glasses in 03

  • when donny says the thing at the end when he leaves, what does that mean?

  • I think it means that Donny is convinced that, because Frasier never will lie in court, he will say that Niles is NOT in love with Daphne (because Donny doesnt know that he is).

  • thanks

  • What does it say on that glass door behind Frasier at about 4:40? It looks like Chenberd. Does it mean something?

Can anyone explain how Frasier and Niles's father is a kind of tough-talking cop, while on Cheers, Frasier's mother was an upper-crust snob psychaitrist? How did they get together? On Cheers, Frasier descends from pilgrims who arrived in America with a 'small personal fortune.' How do they explain the social disparity between the parents on Frasier?

  • It is suggested sometimes in the show(especially when old friends from 'Cheers' appear in the show) that Frasier lied or exaggerated things in 'Cheers' to seem more 'important'...

  • Sam called him on it in the episode he showed up in, Frasier admitted he lied about his dad because their relationship was poor IIRC.

  • I think it is a poster and the name is Rauschenberg, as in Robert Rauschenberg (the artist).

  • @LitCrit101 It's explained a couple of times in the show that Frasier's parents met at a crime scene(a murder.) Not sure what their mother was doing there, unless she was helping to profile the perpetrator.

  • @VickieED She was. Hester was a psychiatrist who helped Martin's police department.

  • @LitCrit101 Watch the episode "The Show Where Sam Shows Up". A lot of the confusion was cleared up there.

  • i LOVE when Niles panics!!!!!! AWESOME!

  • I love when Martin tells his ethics story here. He's such a strong man.

  • This is just like Plato's Euthyphro.

    Groovy.

  • "to save mankind from a talking comet? yes!"

i am SO going to quote that out of context

  • This series is the most exquisite interplay of brilliant writing and brilliant acting. David Pierce, Kelsey Grammar, John Mahoney and Eddy the Dog are utterly superb comic actors. I wonder whether Jane Leeves ever learnt anything by working with them.

  • Jane Leeves is good too!

  • These scripts are bloody marvellous- are they all the same writers?

  • if i could take deep breaths it would mean i could breath!!

  • Who am I lying to, the comet??

  • I love this show! Especialy Niles - he's my favorite character

  • 03:22

Poor Niles, he should have told her ages ago, but a character of such week constitution are we not suprised that it took the good length of the series to get the gumption to express how he feels. But the statement about broken hearts. Can't some of you out there agree with me that life feels that way sometimes? M

  • In the words of David Byrne from the song 'Psycho Killer', "..say something once, why say it again?"

  • you said it pyhtonbyte!

i love this show btw and i love niles and dapne but gosh, one time is enough! lol

  • ... and drives a HATCHBACK!!

Oh he delivers his lines perfectly.. so much emotion.. My smug, sharp Niles..

  • To save mankind from a talking comet, yes!

  • wow...Frasier did appear insensitive when he wouldn't lie for Niles...but luckily he changed when he told Niles about Daphne's feelings before their wedding, breaking up 2 marriages.

  • niles is a foooooooool lol i love it!

  • there is part IV of freeze, also.

    happy halloween.

    watch?v=6UBt0LEN72U

    and it's not that simple!

  • woah.. martin. i love that speech about ethics and shit..

    john mahoney is phenomenal

  • Ethics and shit?? Lol, you have a way with words dude!

  • IKR??! hahaha.

  • noooooooooo daphne don't go with donny. NOOOOOOO.

  • Niles reacts the same way when he finds out Daphne loves him! He hyperventilates!

  • I really like the old man in this part four.
