  • Lyrics out life, the way music should be written.

  • I gave it up for music and the free electric band :)

  • I walked around in wrinkled shirts No power irons here And the farm was big and icy cold In winter hard to bear It's a future bought with tallow 'Cus those candlesticks were cheap And they must make do with great big awkward Shears for shearing sheep And my father visionized for me To follow his caprice Had a dented crank Victrola Upon the mantelpiece My parents weren't adventurers Into electric-land They will never blow a fuse - it's Not for pre-electric man

  • I went to California for sunshine and the beach, caught some waves, then joined a free electric band. Right decision!

  • great song happy new year from IRELAND everybody

  • Oh i remember him.He had a lot of great songs in the 70s.

  • the song is just so good because he spent all his money on grass

  • Comment removed

  • why's he playing an acoustic haha

  • @Muzikman127 ´Cause he can! He doesn´t need a soundcard, no computer and no glamorous casting show watched at millions of freeky, incapable of criticism teenies.

He only needs bread (no dress of meat), water (no wodka to get 4.2 %o ) and a guitarr (no legions of promoter and advertising agencies).

Thats the different between an musician and the labelmarionetts of today.

  • He looks like Robert Downey Junior :D <3

  • Chill Song :-). (Y)

  • Weird. This song is big in Germany then? You Germans are wacky.

  • Singing - surfing - smoking grass - (fucking on the beach) - what a beautiful life -

parents and lecturers - they all couldn't understand - a free electric band is so much better - let's go partying - but does only one waste an idea who of these hard working idiots - no party, no free electric band a.s.o. - is paying with his hard earned dollars for the free living feeling of some freaks??

No doubt - that these guys never think about the next days or years - someone will take care of them

  • @softie461

"Regard the lilies of the field. They labour not, neither do they spin, and yet I tell you that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as one of these."

Natural virtues soon become vices when they are not kept in check. The USA is a prime example. The mafia are Can Do "go-getters". Get a life.

  • Does he have a large German following?

  • @TAfTfilms Well, apparently there are many comments from German kids who heard this song in their English lessons (seems like the lyrics are in their school book).

I'm Austrian and grew up with his songs, which were among the first songs I recorded with my casette player when I was a child. Some years later ""The Free Electric Band" was one of my first 45s. Unfortunately most people my age only know Albert Hammond jr. (some not even him) although Albert Hammond is at least as good as his son.

  • @TAfTfilms

    every good musicians has it.

  • @Nixuebrig No, there are many good musicians who don't have a large following in Germany. Lots are even quite unknown. I've unfortunately met many David Hasselhoff, Dieter Bohlen, Kelly Family, etc. fans but don't know any (or only one or two others apart from me) fans of Rory Gallagher, Alex Harvey, Geordie, Moody Blues, etc. Let's face it: most people only listen (and know) mainstream acts that are frequently on MTV, radio or in the papers.

  • @83RockaRolla

its marketing and education.less education = falling on mainstream.

Hell we even had a comic frog at Number One in the charts because of marketing.

thats the way it goes, we should not argue about it, but enjoying the good musicians. And I guess it also depends on how you grew up, my father was (is) a music enthusiastic and I heard many records he and his brother listened to , so I got the touch back in my youth in the 70s and 80s how good music should be. Music, not the show.

  • @Nixuebrig You summed it up very well!!!

When I was a child I thought Milli Vanilli, New Kids On The Block, etc. sound so boring compared to the Beatles, the Who, etc. (I knew them from my father's MCs which he played in his car). I started collecting records when I was 11 and I'm glad I discovered many musicians I'd have never heard of otherwise at flea markets and albums by musicans who are only know for a few "oldies" like Albert Hammond, who IMHO is a great songwriter.

  • Okay - his opinion - but if everyone should think so - what a funny world it would be!

Everyone would be singing, surfing and have fun (with a little grass) - and after some month . . . . .

  • oneway to hell

  • My father is a farmer A frugality man My mother she had married him Down in Birmingham And they've never seen no jerry cans Nor applied power saws And their idea of technology's A half moon toilet door Life's crappiness was painful There was darkness all around Such bummers were those oil lamps For when the sun went down There were no hi-fi systems Or Hydro-Lectric dams And no frequency, to choose it 'Cause we're pre-electric man
  • @aqcrew

    Wow, thats pretty cool ;)

  • @aqcrew HAHAHAHAHAHA, brilliant!

  • @aqcrew VERY GOOD. How about verse 2?

  • sorry leute,

  • What a great song! It cries: individuality. Unlike the homogenized, vapid and over produced drivel that is imposed on us today. This a "War Cry" against mediocrity and a standard to bear for anyone who dares to say, "No"!

  • ist das nicht greenline new e2?

  • ich hab des auch....xD

  • green line new 5 !!!

  • inmeinem englisch buch isses auch xDD !!!

    immer wieder schön...

  • He changes the words on this live version from "Sent me money and I spent it very fast" on the LP to "on grass" Live this version even better!

  • GREATEST SONG EVER!!!!! IT SAYS IT ALL. I used to put a dollar in the jute box and play it 10 times straight.

The word to the song are "words to live by"

  • " Until deep rooted attitudes and morals begin to show" but it's a good version, thanks for posting

  • they both stick up for Liberty

they both stick up for WAR -not law -

    Viet Nam that was...

  • I bet he was here in Holland when he sings ,,My father send me money , but I spend it all on Grass !!!! I was a little kid when this came out and Mom loved him !!!

  • Nope, was germany.

  • I was 19 when this came out. i got a job a house and a family. i could have done it differently. Have gone round the world, Found excitemant. Instaed I found a boring job. But to have someone call you daddy, is a posession, beyond price.
