Without a doubt the most useful and easy to understand video on youtube as far as calibration. Excellent video that i recommend to all my friends that play RB or GH.
Hello. Just a quick message to say thank you for this video. If anyone is looking at the comments and wondering whether to sit through the 7 minutes (plus time taken to do it yourself) I seriously advise that you do - and this is coming from a perfectionist. I had frustratingly managed to get by before but now I have managed to 100%/5 gs songs that I couldn't have done before. This video is brilliant!!! :D
@straightjacketclub Thanks! So glad it helped. Rock Band is frustrating if you don't have it calibrated, and unfortunately that's how most people play it!
Ok so i have a 55" samsung led tv and its hooked hp to my ps3 with an hdmi cable. I heard that hdmi kinda lags the video. The audio is connected by components to a yamaha reciever for surround sound. Its pretty complicated for me to calibrate it because i haveit around a:35 and v:70 by there.
Thanks for the tips! I was finally able to calibrate Rock Band 3. I figured out Guitar Hero through trial and error, but never understood the mechanics behind it. 'Preciate it!
i quit until i can get a non hdtv again.....no matter what i do even if the timing is perfect the note will lag past the hit box and make it look like im hitting everything late and that messes me up....any1 else hav the same problem?
I have a 42 inch LG plasma.. does anybody know the calibration numbers although i automatically sync it from the rb3 calibration settings it still delays can someone help me! :(
This is sooooo Awesome! I used to rely on RB's calibration tool to get the settings as good as it could get but would still get frustrated missing notes I really tought I had hit.
This video made me tweak it a bit and some fine tuning did the trick! Now I can get some 100%. My settings for a 42" LG LCD 120Hz ends up being: Video:120ms / Audio : 50ms
I think they should add leeway. Make the target area bigger. Its an easy way to fix a problem that should have never been such an issue to begin with. I like rb more cuz of the music selection, but gh plays way better. I never miss as much or do I spend so much time calibrating.
@Emdecay I know right, guitar hero works perfect on all tvs I play, with very minimal changes to video. I like RB more, but ever since I bought my new tv...it has been hell trying to calibrate it right.
in RB2, I use different calibrations for both Gutiar and Drums. I usually got my best results for guitar at around a: 45ms v: 25ms, but for drums it worked best at a: 30ms v: 0ms. Weird stuff.
I just got RB3 and hooked up to my big screen with HDMI though, and I'm having a ridiculous time calibrating it. if I do the manual calibration, it's giving me numbers around a: -250ms v: 65, the v is spot on but the audio isn't even close. if I set the a: 300ms it's close, but that's it's max. any help?
I have a tip for the audio portion of this. If you put a piece of paper above and below the strum indicator part on the screen it makes it 10000000 times easier. Leave a very small slit between the top and bottom piece and then you see that match up the audio to when that slit lights up. You should have the slit at the bottom of strum indication bar to have things as accurate as possible.
There's no way to calibrate each instrument separately, right? I seem to get wildly different calibration numbers depending on whether I calibrate with the drums, rb3 keys, or guitar. I haven't yet found a happy medium where all three instruments can be played together without someone having to compensate by playing a little earlier or later than they think they should.
@konrad93 the reason you see the effects more and it's a bigger problem for higher level players is because you have more notes in a shorter space. So if you're 20MS off there may be another note that already came through. On Easy, you may miss 1 note, but on Expert if you're playing a song with a blistering guitar solo, a 20MS delay really can cause you to miss every note
rock band 3 is almost impossible to sync up properly . you can only adjust by 10 .... my tv is a 42 inch LG Plasma . and if i go to +35 its too far and when i go to +30 doesnt work either ... so im pretty much fucked .
My isssue is, my audio is spot on with the hit bar, but the video isn't, I know its too far positive, yet when I move it negatively, the hit bar seems to not move, but in fact get smaller.
@markuscc i think you have forgotten how is was to be a lowlevel player... it's just as fustrating if you play at lowlevel and still miss notes that you shouldn't..
when you are a low level player you have to think more, and all the non-fast notes seams like fast notes for you.
i think it matters if not more, then at least just as much for low players then for high players, and as i said in my other post, high-leveled players is good enough to compensate for the lag and can therefore still play
first: a small addon.. in the end you say that you could set the setting to match the best player cours it might not matter as much to the "bad" player..
my advice it setting the setting to the bad player instead, cours the good player can properbly compensate for the lag
second: i can't beleve that they can't make an easy ingame guide for calibration.. it's so fail that people have to make an 7 min guide on the internet to have everybody understand -_-
@konrad93 A bad player doesn't have to worry about calibration because it only really matters with fast hammer ons and pullofs. Bad players won't be seeing any of those on the easy difficulty settings.
They really need a much better calibration option than that stupid bouncing needle thing they have. It should be regular notes scrolling extremely quickly, like 10 times faster than breakneck speed, so that it is much more accurate.
Goood guide, thanks. My problem is that it registers the hit too late. So when I calibrate, what it does, is simply show the video and audio track earlier. No matter what, it first passes the border, then if it got my signal then the notes were played. It's getting kinda annoying that you see all notes always go through the border (also, Rock Band cannot predict my very first note in the song).
Thanks for this! I was trying to do this on my green day rock band that i just got, and now it should be a lot easier. This really clears it up nicely, the graphics and annotations you drew really helped.
Hey , anyone PLEASE help, I got new 32 inch 1080p LG LCD TV and i do use the component cables, I would GREATLY appreciate it, I tried the hit box thing it seems like i shouldn't calibrate it, but when i actually play, it's off. Thanks.
Just a heads up to anybody doing this on RB3. I messed around with the calibration for a good hour and used only the drum trainer part to test it. The calibration settings have no effect on the drum trainer for some unknown reason.
This video made my day (week? Month? year?!?!). Best explanation of the whole calibration system!!! Finally I can play RockBand like it's meant to be!
@CrackedRabbitGaming I'm 99 percent sure you can't do this in the drum trainer. The audio settings don't seem to affect the trainer for some strange reason.
i have my video calibrated at about 65, and when i go to try to do the audio, i hit the notes on the beat of the music and they don't hit until they are well below the hit line...it's the same with the audio calibrated at 0 and 120. do i just need to increase it even further past 120 or am i doing something wrong?
Only one small gripe about this video: you didn't say why this would be different with the new strat controller (which it does the calibration process differently), and how that process helps to the point that all you shown us wouldn't be necessary to consider.
I have a 37 in Vizio, and my drum video settings, when I calibrate it, wants to go at 137ms (which I can say would be overkill. Not sure how it got to be THAT off), and I thought there could be issue with what it's calibrating.
I had a Guitar Hero 5 guitar and it worked perfectly with Rock Band 2 but it broke so i bought a Les Paul and the calibration is way off. I use the red, white and yellow leads so my lag settings should be 0,0 but its way off that and this method doesnt help. Can anyone help me?
First I used the audio calibration tool with the drums, so you can actually hear when you're hitting in relation to the beeps. You know this is correct when the metronome in practice syncs up. Video didn't go so well, so I did trial and error with that.
Bah, why did I waste my cash on this game... it has great song list, alot better than GH, but unlike GH, it leaves no room for error. I originally thought it was a lag issue, which is why I'm here, but after trying everything, I realize that it's not about lag, it's the game that requires all HO's and PO's to be done perfectly, at least at the faster speed setting, which I have to use to be able to see the notes in the solos... Oh well.
@izisvi well, I'm used to GH, which is more forgiving, and I have no problems playing expert there, only songs I haven't been able to beat is TDWDTG and Jordan from the games I've played(1-5+WT). Anywho, I wasn't prepared for the accuracy RB required and since I started playing in my twenties my fingers aren't really flexible enough to get the exact timing, and hard being boring as hell, the game isn't really for me. I'm not really complaining about the game, rather my inability to play it.
@Keyarchan it's not that, your just used to GH and not used to Rock Band. For me it's the other way around. The GH notes seem very exact and I miss notes that on Rock Band I would hit every time. Just spend some time to get used to the setup, it will come eventually.
@greenzoid2 Guess I could try it some more, maybe there's still some issues left with the lag, but fast strumming parts seems fine so I don't think it's that. Probably just need to get used to it like you said... only problem is that if GH ever decides to release a good game it might mess with my playing =P
My CRT TV gave out after more than 10 years and I was horrified to find that I can only buy flat panels in the store. Obviously, I'm having issues with my GH and RB. I hope your tips help me out. I'm pretty bummed at the moment. :(
@Joeki11a Its not EA. This stuff is gonna happen in any game like this with the technology available. Maybe in the future lag will be completely eliminated, but that just isn't the case right now.
Great guide, too bad, that I play with some lag settings that looks fine for me since almost a year, even if I calibrate it perfectly, I would suck then, because I'm used to the old settings
Would HDI create a lag on a 32" HDTV 1080i for Rock band 2? Cause I'm going out of my mind trying to figure out if it's my video or audio that's causing me to miss. Right now my settings are: audio 0, video -5. The most problems are during solos when all the notes are really bunched up together. I know I'm fast enough to hit them but they sometimes don't hit when I hammer off or pull off. Dude plz help!!!
I can't give specific advice because that's not the setup I use, but the method I explain in this video should help you. Have you tried calibrating in the order I give? Maybe someone with a similar setup can help.
@Troopdragon86 im havin the exact same problem, i took my rock band 2 and put it on my HDTV 50". it was completelye messed up and i couldnt hit a single note. just go onto a smaller tv and do the rock band 2 calibration, thats what i did and it works fine now
@Troopdragon86 For that kind of TV.. Try Audio = 75, Video = 50. I've found that Video = 50 is just about dead on....adjust the audio per your preference, but it will probably be the closest between 60 and 80.
A way to tell where the hit box is in relation to the video is to play as a vocalist and choose a song with a tambourine notes (don't fear the reaper) since the view isn't skewed on the vocal highway it should give you an idea of where the hit box is when you test it
I had no problems with calibrating Rock Band 2, but holy shit its hard to calibrate in Beatles Rock Band. That game is practically broken how horrible the vcalibration is....I`m still looking for a solution
Calibrating the beatles rock band was a nightmare until I came across this video, what worked for me is that I had to invert the plus/minus signs, it seems it is different on this new game... thanks again for posting this great guide!!!
a good way to test if your lag is accurate is to go into drum trainer or any song and watch where the notes turn red... they should turn red shortly after it passes the strum bar/hit bar... after you've gotten it so it seems to turn red slightly after the hit bar then test it by hitting slightly before and slightly after the notes...
after you're satisfied with your video calibration go into drum trainer (yes it needs to be drum trainer) and go to any of the beats and turn the metronome ON...
Then watch at how close the metronome hits are to when the note passes the hit bar and adjust the audio accordingly till the metronome hits are in time with when the notes are passing the hit bar.... then your system should calibrated correctly.... THANKS TOMMY GUN this helped me sooo much
it sucks i need my lag to be 48 audio and -2 video but you can only calibrate in 5s. when i had a wired drum set 50/0 was fine but the wierless drum set has a 2 millisecond lag.
i play on the wii version of rb2, when i do solo, i play fine but when i play online, i hit the notes when im supposed to, it doesnt count the hit for some reason. plz help
the steps would still be the same as this video. trust me i know. these rules work on all rock band and guitar hero games, the calibration for guitar hero will be different than rock band. Also rock band with out surround sound will be different than with. You follow the same steps but you will get different numbers.
I can't calibrate Rock Band but I can calibrate Rock Band 2 with this guy's method. And I don't even feel the need to calibrate Guitar Hero since the hit box is so huge.
For the sound: Just go into PRACTICE mode. Set it to easy and to 50% speed. Don't even wait for the notes, just strum and listen to the empty plucking of the strings. Are they delayed? Or right on When you strum? Simple as that for the audio
this migh sound dumb but im trying to get a hell of a lot of people to go on to rock band(.) com and request a new calibration system on the xbox live marketplace so i think if enough people ask for it in the forums they'll get tired of complaints and just do it!
dont worry its free to sign up and reply to the suggestion thread
on the site my profiles name is rocknrollheroic :)
On behalf of my girlfriend and I, thanks for this. This method definitely helped us with our calibration on our system. My final numbers are audio/video: 80/50.
Video 55 was perfect for the drums, but it was a tad off for the guitar (wireless RB 2), so i lowered it to 50.
It seemed just perfect.
For what it's worth, I have a Sharp Aquos hdtv and a Sony 5.1 home theater system.
I don't think the calibration works properly for the beat trainer at all actually. I have my drums calibrated perfectly in game but as soon as you go to the trainer the lag is back. This is a known issue especially with the wireless drums. Something definitely screwy going on.
i thought that it was just me and that I was going insane, it's actually why I came to look at this video. I can run through songs with steady 1/16th note hi-hats on expert all day long, FC Flirtin With Disaster, and yet I can't beat Disco 1 at 100bpm in the trainer. I thought for a long time it was me, but then I thought maybe it was the calibration and now it seems it's a known issue? I'll have to look around for a thread in some forum for it, see if there's a workaround.
I used this video and spent probably 4 or 5 hours in total messing around with the settings. After i got the correct settings using this video i just ran the auto calibration and compared the two results. Seems the audio calibration is spot on but the video is off by 35-40 every time. You can strum on time or late but not early at all.
Run the auto calibration, leave what it gives for audio, subtract 40 from the video results = win. I did this on a ps3 but the 360 is probably the same.
Nope. Shouldn't matter at all. The guitar calibration works very consistently. It is just the way it calibrates. For whatever reason they thought that people would want the timing window perfectly on time or late. I used the auto calibration results -40 video on about 5 completely different setups. My friend tried it with his 360 and it worked perfectly as well.
By auto calibration i mean with the guitar. Not the useless auto calibration thing where you strum it.
A simple, but really useful guide. It helped me a lot. The big thing is to focus on the video calibration, which seems easier. To see if the video calibration is perfect, I recommend playing a difficult song, Expert Level, at 50% speed and with no audio (Dream Theater's Constant Motion, for example), while the audio calibration works better with a simple song (like the bass part of You've Got Another Thing Comin', from Judas Priest).
By far the easiest way to calibrate the audio and video is to take a repetitive song and make sure hyperspeed is turned on. It is a ton easier to see things.
Hey just another little tip here: If you are calibrating for guitar... Play the "Give it All" Guitar Intro... Its just simple chords that are really slow. It really helped me out :)
Thanks a LOT for this video. I calibrate a lot due to taking my HD with me to friends', this is gonna make it easier. I just wish I could send this to my PS3 friend and have him actually take the advice. His set up is TERRIBLE. I'm watching him play, and the notes are almost all the way through the strike zone before he hits them. He refuses to change it, even though everyone else complains, because it "feels right" to him. Doesn't matter that it's visibly wrong and nobody else can play. -_-
Back when GH2 came out, my cousin came over to play and loaded his memory card. After struggling through a few songs, I checked his calibration and it was set all weird, and he didn't even know it! But he was used to those settings since that's how it had been the whole time.
I just recently upgraded to a HDTV, and now my mic audio is about a half-second out of sync... I tried calibration, but that didn't seem to help. Any suggestions?
It's invisible -- you can only find it by playing early and late and watching closely. It all depends on the lag of your audio and video, ideally everything should be centered. The hitbox isn't in the calibrate menu, you can only change the audio/video in relation to it. I don't think I can explain it better in text than I did with visual aids, heh.
hmmm... i didnt get it :(... but it will be awesome if u make a video showing how to manual calibrate... because i used to have an insignia hdtv, and a lg home theater and everything was ok without calibrating... but now i have an 32' HDTV Polaroid and a 1000w RCA home theater... and everything is a mess... and i already tried the normal calibration (hitting green pad when hearing the sound, and when the light lights up)... but i think it is still out of sync... its better, but not good
hey did you hav the voulme up ALL THE way i first time i did i not have the voulme up all way and it mesed up my calibrate my friend that works for rock band had to expailn to max the voulme out and not to make a noise your heard a really loud beep or chirpin sound it shound work
yeah... when i try to calibrate i always turn all the volume up... and as i said before, the calibration is good, but the sound doesn't match the chart notes perfectly... and im really fustrated because with my old tv and home teather i really used to play awesome... but with these ones i have now, i miss a lot of notes... :(
Wanted to ask as well, do you know how the GH calibration works? My problem with it is that you can only add lag calibration in one direction, rather than +/- in RB2. Because of that, it never feels quite right.
I had the same problem with Gh3. i just kept playing with the numbers and i actually eventually got to a setting where the notes kind of went through the bar, but the music was synced to the hitbox. which is what matters. just keep messing with it till you get it right
The RB manual has some recommended settings, CRT is 0/0 I believe, but it all depends on if you're running it through separate speakers, etc. If you're constantly on two setups, I'd just calibrate manually for each, and write down the settings.
Even then I remember RB1 (at least on the PS3) was not properly calibrated at 0/0 on a CRT, both before the lag patch, and after. I know it did change with the lag patch on the 360, but I'm not sure how so.
Anyways man, great video. I always have trouble telling people how to do this (wasn't quite down with how the +/- moved the audio/video sync), so this will be a great go-to video.
I tried using the autocalibration. It set the settings into the 90-110 range. My good settings are much lower.
When I tested the guitar with autocalibration, IIRC, it set the note at the top of the hit window, meaning I could hit much late and not early. I might try it again though.
Also, it's a fun thing to note that I "imported" the settings from RB1 (although they have the order swapped). I seriously liked RB1's way of calibrating better.
Waaa Hey!! Thnks 4 the help!! It really REALLY HELPED ME A LOT!! Now I can GS a lot of songs.. But Just One thing... Why does it feel different when I play Online and With the "Breakneck" speed? that sucks 'cause If I play solo I can almost FC doesnt matter If I activate the speed.. but Online It's totally lagged :S What Can I Do? :S By XLuisX
what is the best manual speed to use?

I need a translation to Rock Band 1 for Wii. At 0 and 0, my audio and video are correct, but the hitbox comes too early.
*If I hit a note 150 MS early on "Train Kept A Rollin" it still counts. But if I hit it 1 MS late, it misses.
*What should the first setting be, and what should the second setting be?

i have my video calibrated at about 65, and when i go to try to do the audio, i hit the notes on the beat of the music and they don't hit until they are well below the hit line...it's the same with the audio calibrated at 0 and 120. do i just need to increase it even further past 120 or am i doing something wrong?
debo326 1 year ago
Only one small gripe about this video: you didn't say why this would be different with the new strat controller (which it does the calibration process differently), and how that process helps to the point that all you shown us wouldn't be necessary to consider.
I have a 37 in Vizio, and my drum video settings, when I calibrate it, wants to go at 137ms (which I can say would be overkill. Not sure how it got to be THAT off), and I thought there could be issue with what it's calibrating.
darkpowrjd 1 year ago
you can do this in practice mode at 50% it helps make it more exact
greenzoid2 1 year ago
I had a Guitar Hero 5 guitar and it worked perfectly with Rock Band 2 but it broke so i bought a Les Paul and the calibration is way off. I use the red, white and yellow leads so my lag settings should be 0,0 but its way off that and this method doesnt help. Can anyone help me?
OllieS216 1 year ago
This is what I did:
First I used the audio calibration tool with the drums, so you can actually hear when you're hitting in relation to the beeps. You know this is correct when the metronome in practice syncs up. Video didn't go so well, so I did trial and error with that.
HarmoniousChirp 1 year ago
Bah, why did I waste my cash on this game... it has great song list, alot better than GH, but unlike GH, it leaves no room for error. I originally thought it was a lag issue, which is why I'm here, but after trying everything, I realize that it's not about lag, it's the game that requires all HO's and PO's to be done perfectly, at least at the faster speed setting, which I have to use to be able to see the notes in the solos... Oh well.
Keyarchan 1 year ago
@Keyarchan so... you're mad because you can't keep time and RB penalizes you for that?
izisvi 1 year ago
@izisvi well, I'm used to GH, which is more forgiving, and I have no problems playing expert there, only songs I haven't been able to beat is TDWDTG and Jordan from the games I've played(1-5+WT). Anywho, I wasn't prepared for the accuracy RB required and since I started playing in my twenties my fingers aren't really flexible enough to get the exact timing, and hard being boring as hell, the game isn't really for me. I'm not really complaining about the game, rather my inability to play it.
Keyarchan 1 year ago
@Keyarchan learn to keep beat. Some people it comes naturally, and some people need to force themselves into the beat.
greenzoid2 1 year ago
@Keyarchan it's not that, your just used to GH and not used to Rock Band. For me it's the other way around. The GH notes seem very exact and I miss notes that on Rock Band I would hit every time. Just spend some time to get used to the setup, it will come eventually.
greenzoid2 1 year ago
@greenzoid2 Guess I could try it some more, maybe there's still some issues left with the lag, but fast strumming parts seems fine so I don't think it's that. Probably just need to get used to it like you said... only problem is that if GH ever decides to release a good game it might mess with my playing =P

Troopdragon86 2 years ago
I can't give specific advice because that's not the setup I use, but the method I explain in this video should help you. Have you tried calibrating in the order I give? Maybe someone with a similar setup can help.
CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
@Troopdragon86 im havin the exact same problem, i took my rock band 2 and put it on my HDTV 50". it was completelye messed up and i couldnt hit a single note. just go onto a smaller tv and do the rock band 2 calibration, thats what i did and it works fine now
jamarikl 1 year ago
@Troopdragon86 For that kind of TV.. Try Audio = 75, Video = 50. I've found that Video = 50 is just about dead on....adjust the audio per your preference, but it will probably be the closest between 60 and 80.
RichMaxwell 1 year ago
A way to tell where the hit box is in relation to the video is to play as a vocalist and choose a song with a tambourine notes (don't fear the reaper) since the view isn't skewed on the vocal highway it should give you an idea of where the hit box is when you test it
gizmothedog 2 years ago

rsuarezgiaco 2 years ago
a good way to test if your lag is accurate is to go into drum trainer or any song and watch where the notes turn red... they should turn red shortly after it passes the strum bar/hit bar... after you've gotten it so it seems to turn red slightly after the hit bar then test it by hitting slightly before and slightly after the notes...
after you're satisfied with your video calibration go into drum trainer (yes it needs to be drum trainer) and go to any of the beats and turn the metronome ON...
PogopunkXIII 2 years ago
Then watch at how close the metronome hits are to when the note passes the hit bar and adjust the audio accordingly till the metronome hits are in time with when the notes are passing the hit bar.... then your system should calibrated correctly.... THANKS TOMMY GUN this helped me sooo much

I think that the calibration changes online since your calibration might not be the same as the calibration for the other person you're playing with.
Maybe the game can't do multiple calibrations at once, much like how you can't adjust calibration specifically for each instrument.

the steps would still be the same as this video. trust me i know. these rules work on all rock band and guitar hero games, the calibration for guitar hero will be different than rock band. Also rock band with out surround sound will be different than with. You follow the same steps but you will get different numbers.

For the sound: Just go into PRACTICE mode. Set it to easy and to 50% speed. Don't even wait for the notes, just strum and listen to the empty plucking of the strings. Are they delayed? Or right on When you strum? Simple as that for the audio

Thanks again!

erictsci9 2 years ago
The first part of your calibration, the video part, can I test the hitbox on the beat trainer? It proves a consistance stream of notes.
aN4rK1 2 years ago
Yeah, that should work. Be sure to try different songs at different speeds just to be sure though.
CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
I don't think the calibration works properly for the beat trainer at all actually. I have my drums calibrated perfectly in game but as soon as you go to the trainer the lag is back. This is a known issue especially with the wireless drums. Something definitely screwy going on.
markuscc 2 years ago
i thought that it was just me and that I was going insane, it's actually why I came to look at this video.

CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
I used this video and spent probably 4 or 5 hours in total messing around with the settings. After i got the correct settings using this video i just ran the auto calibration and compared the two results. Seems the audio calibration is spot on but the video is off by 35-40 every time. You can strum on time or late but not early at all.
Run the auto calibration, leave what it gives for audio, subtract 40 from the video results = win. I did this on a ps3 but the 360 is probably the same.
markuscc 2 years ago
I doubt subtracting 40 will work for everyone, I'm sure it depends on their setup.
CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
Not the useless auto calibration thing where you strum it.
markuscc 2 years ago
A simple, but really useful guide. It helped me a lot. The big thing is to focus on the video calibration, which seems easier. To see if the video calibration is perfect, I recommend playing a difficult song, Expert Level, at 50% speed and with no audio (Dream Theater's Constant Motion, for example), while the audio calibration works better with a simple song (like the bass part of You've Got Another Thing Comin', from Judas Priest).
vbutruce 2 years ago
By far the easiest way to calibrate the audio and video is to take a repetitive song and make sure hyperspeed is turned on. It is a ton easier to see things.
markuscc 2 years ago
Thanks! It works perfectly now. I had to lower the Video to -50MS to make things work and now I can actually FC solos.

dylmax12jazz 2 years ago
Thanks a LOT for this video. I calibrate a lot due to taking my HD with me to friends', this is gonna make it easier. I just wish I could send this to my PS3 friend and have him actually take the advice. His set up is TERRIBLE. I'm watching him play, and the notes are almost all the way through the strike zone before he hits them. He refuses to change it, even though everyone else complains, because it "feels right" to him. Doesn't matter that it's visibly wrong and nobody else can play. -_-

TheGameJedi 2 years ago
but where can i find thatt hit box???? i didnt get it... :(
orlandoknow 2 years ago
It's invisible -- you can only find it by playing early and late and watching closely. It all depends on the lag of your audio and video, ideally everything should be centered. The hitbox isn't in the calibrate menu, you can only change the audio/video in relation to it. I don't think I can explain it better in text than I did with visual aids, heh.
CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
hmmm... i didnt get it :(... but it will be awesome if u make a video showing how to manual calibrate... because i used to have an insignia hdtv, and a lg home theater and everything was ok without calibrating... but now i have an 32' HDTV Polaroid and a 1000w RCA home theater... and everything is a mess... and i already tried the normal calibration (hitting green pad when hearing the sound, and when the light lights up)... but i think it is still out of sync... its better, but not good

Wanted to ask as well, do you know how the GH calibration works? My problem with it is that you can only add lag calibration in one direction, rather than +/- in RB2. Because of that, it never feels quite right.
ex0du5 2 years ago
ex0du5,
I had the same problem with Gh3. i just kept playing with the numbers and i actually eventually got to a setting where the notes kind of went through the bar, but the music was synced to the hitbox. which is what matters. just keep messing with it till you get it right

The RB manual has some recommended settings, CRT is 0/0 I believe, but it all depends on if you're running it through separate speakers, etc. If you're constantly on two setups, I'd just calibrate manually for each, and write down the settings.
CrackedRabbitGaming 2 years ago
thanks
EvanandHaydenGH3 2 years ago
Even then I remember RB1 (at least on the PS3) was not properly calibrated at 0/0 on a CRT, both before the lag patch, and after. I know it did change with the lag patch on the 360, but I'm not sure how so.
Anyways man, great video. I always have trouble telling people how to do this (wasn't quite down with how the +/- moved the audio/video sync), so this will be a great go-to video.
ex0du5 2 years ago
HOLY CRAP AWESOME.
