Listening to this now, with Stuart Adamson on guitar, it is like U2's the Edge meets Bill Nelson. By that I mean, SA has some of that minimalism in service of the song that makes the Edge such a great technician on the guitar. OTOH, SA has a style of soloing and playing lead in the song that reminds me of Bill Nelson. He was of course a GREAT guitarist and songwriter in his own right. And his influence on U2 has been underestimated or ignored by too many music fans.
Like all the Absolute Game tracks, this one really suffers from their refusal to use keyboards when playing live !
This song was as much about Stuart's synth sounds as his guitar.
I can't stand that nobber Russell Webb on bass. He's the guy who thought he was bigger than Stuart and set about forcing him out of The Skids (at least now, he is bald as a coot !).
I was lucky enough to spend about an hour with Stuart at a Big Co p.a at a shop where I was working. I was in total awe of the man and he was an absolute gentleman in ever sense we chatted about loads of things whilst eating nibbles. He signed all my old vinyls on some he said "be lucky" makes me pretty emotional looking at them now.
sorry to be a bit maudling but I was blessed not lucky!
I've been coming back to this at least once a month for nearly a year now...thank God for Stuart Adamson. He's deeply missed. His guitar here is indeed transcendent (to nick from headlongthruthegloom!). I feel a common brotherhood w/all other posters here. Can't thank you enough for posting this incredible footage.
The Skids were one of the most original punk bands out there. Wonderful folk influence, and a kind of kind of angst that most rock groups can't properly express. Thanks again GH - I have subscribed to your feed on here.
Great stuff. Thanks to whoever posted this one.All due respect to Stuart, but I love where Jobson's guitar lies in the scheme of all this.Great, honest music.
I can't stop watching this. I love BC, but this is a revelation. Amazing that Stuart could have so much creativity in front of him when this song was done. The style is there though. The high notes, the change of pace, and the shout. This is truly a great song.
fantastic - I loved all their stuff. Watching Stuart reminds me of my heroes who are no longer about - Strummer, Joey Ramone... It's not looking good for Weller

Well I always enjoyed hearing different versions of songs and this is a rawer version of the album and is great as far as I'm concerned.
In any case how many TAG tracks use a synth up front?
And - What on earth is this Russell Webb stuff?

Defies simple classification like all the best things.
A long way from rock and roll that's for sure.

So glad this is still here. Listen to it from time to time. It's about justice and truth and they play it that way.

It's an incredible song, and I'm amazed that I more or less overlooked it on the album.
I believe the Skids are arguably the best band to come out of Scotland. Certainly should be in the top 5.

Transcendent. Very moving and evocative.
First time I saw this I nearly fucking wept.

This was probably my least favourite track on TAG at the time but Stuart's guitar elevates this way beyond the recorded version.

Dire Straits influenced by the Skids? Well at least they had an appropriate name.

I was trying to think what this reminded me of - I'm sure Dire Straits ripped off bits of this.
