I found that typos in the video itself cannot be fixed unless you dump your copy on youtube and go back to the original copy and change it and then reload it unfortunately' I have some on mine and I have fixed a couple of them that way.. from Newman
@ShrinehillRail Yeah I read the titles like 20 times and dang it there were a few typos. I meant to say "following the Colorado River part of the way". The thing of it is, if I deleat this video then I loose all my views and comments. I can deleat the video and reupload to fix it but I loose all the nearly 4,000 hits and tons of comments.
I recently traveled that same route over Thanksgiving 2010 and got a lot of photos and video but have not edited it yet. We got into the very first snows in Winter Park and again after Reno around Truckee. What a wonderful trip!!
Great video! We took the California Zephyr and then the Cardinal to Baltimore and back to the west coast. I have the videos on my channel if you want to take a look. Next to driving across the country, Amtrak is the very best way to see America.
I"ve ridden the California Zephyr between Denver and Glenwood Springs, CO. I would love to do it again someday. It's just amazing the sights you can see that cannot be seen by car or if you're an extreme terrain hiker.
And I know it was a typo, but this stretch of track doesn't even hit the Colorado River until several hours in and it's after the Granby Stop. It does parallel the Fraser River between Moffat Tunnel and Granby.
@msk578 Yeah that is a typo that can not be fixed. I meant to say following the Colorado river towards the end of the video. I have ridden the Zephyr round trip between Reno and Chicago several times over the years and its quite a fun trip.
Some one needs to tell this guy that the Colorado River is on the Pacific watershed of the Rockies. I don't think the Colorado runs uphill from Denver
We took #5 from Chicago to Grand Junction in July of 2008. Your videos of your 2004 trip West are great. We'll be seeing all of that beauty again in 2009.
Thanks. I road the Zephyr round trip from Reno to Chicago and back in 2004 and 2007. If you search youtube for "Amtrak 6 Reno To Chicago" you can see my entire eastbound trip.
Thanks!!! Yea this was a heck of a fun trip. Those mountains can be covered in feet of snow in the higher elevations in the winter just like the mountains on Donner Pass.
Oops! Actually the Zephyr doesn't join up with the Colorado River until it gets to Granby on the other side of the continental divide from Denver. It's a great trip, isn't it. Nice video. : )
Dang it!!!!! They announced that we were fallowing the colorado river on the train but they did not specify that it started on the west side of the mountains. Sorry for the error!
Nice. I have ridden the California Zephyr train several times round trip between Reno, Nevada and Chicago, Illinois. I headed east on number 6 back in the year 2004 and they actually detoured the train through southern Wyoming. So I actually got to see Wyoming once from the Zephyr. Quite a trip.
Simply gorgeous James. That is some of my most favorite areas up there and I try and visit it at least a few times every year. I have ridden the ski train on that route a few times and it never fails to amaze me. Just wanted to make a quick correction towards the beginning of the video- the tracks follow the Colorado rive on the west side of the mountains. On the east side it's actually the Clear creek which ends up in the Platte river.
Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed the vid. I love how you can sit towards the rear of the train and watch out the front of the windows as the front of the train snakes around the curves. Dang it!!!!! They announced that we were fallowing the colorado river on the train but they did not specify that it started on the west side of the mountains. Sorry for the error!
I road this train from Reno to Chicago in November 2007 and I road from Chicago back to Reno in December 2007. I got some awsome shots of the Rockies covered in snow!!!! But again youtube only allows you to upload vids of no more than 10 mins in length so unfortunatlly I can not upload any of the shots because it well exceeds 10 minutes.
OK, here's the scenery I was talking about on the video before-- AWESOME!! I love Colorado, and the route through here is just spectacular. I've seen lots of pics of the trains thru there, but first time I've had the perspective FROM the train. Awesome, beautiful video!!!
Thanks!!! Yea this is quite an awsome route. I love how you can sit towards the rear of the train and watch the front of the train snake around all the tight curves in the Rockies.
Yeah, I really love that effect too, and the Zephyr is long enough for it to really be impressive in curves. Do you remember about how many cars were in the consist then??
I have no idea how many cars were on my train at the time. The Zephyr verys in length and is usually different each run. Some times it will even have private cars at the rear. It usually has two engines, baggage, crew car, sleepers (the number of sleepers can very), then dining, sight seer lounge, then coach cars (the number of coach cars can very as well) and then some times private cars on the rear. When I road from Chicago to Reno in 2007there was a private dome car on the rear the entire way
Thanks!!! Yea this is quite an awsome route. I love how you can sit towards the rear of the train and watch the front of the train snake around all the tight curves in the Rockies.
wow love the view at the beginning of the engine! wow the scenery is beautiful! i have family living in the Rockies really its nature at its best. love the river there its beautiful! wow beautiful views of the river again man its a beautiful piece of America isnt it That just makes me want to go back again! loved it all the way love the music loved the scenes loved it all!! this is got to be from what i've seen is your best video yet! God Bless you J and have a nice day :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the vid. I have done this run several times between Reno and Chicago on this train and it is totally awsome rideing through the Rockies.
Also since youtube now lets you upload vids of up to 10 mins in length I actually had a little bit of free time off of work for once and I was going through all my years worth of old footage. I found thes Amtrak trips of mine that I decided to upload. I could only upload bits and pieces of my Amtrak trips because youtube only lets you upload vids of no more than 10 mins in length.
If youtube some how extends that and lets you upload vids of more than 10 mins in length I can upload some more realy cool vids that I shot on my Amtrak train trips over the years.
And... can't you imagine this trip in mid or late September with all the fall folliage?? It would be worth the trip at that time of year just to see the fall colors, even "if you weren't going anywhere", LOL!!!
