You are sooo wrong. I have been driving for 7 years and never once caused an accident or had a ticket for any reason. Always watching out for other drivers. Three days ago someone rear-ended me out of no-where. I checked my review several times while I was stopped and saw nothing. She came out of no-where. Airbags in the second car seemed to have made a substantial improvement in dummy protection.

@Catlow20 I just got an '09... improvements to engine and safety were made in '09. My car is sweet- I test drove all other compacts but the Cobalt is the one that I just kinda dug. Not to mention it being the most powerful compact in it's class. Hey but anything to shit on American products right?

@FrankW1029 It's not a shitty car. Please don't compare a Chevy to a Chinese car. Most compacts do no better in side crashes without airbags, etc. The '09 is a much safer car.

If you have bought a Cobalt now...I feel sorry for you when there is the better car in the Chevy Cruze in safety as well as the build quality. not to mention the industry standard in the Civic, Corolla, new Jetta, and the new Elentra just to mention a few better compact car at similar price range.

You'll be fine. The 08 came standard with the side airbags...so the test you look at is the second one....which is much better than the first.

for those small compact cars, they should put like some sort of steel roll cage in them so that the fram is stiff and it won't bend as much. also puting the same thing in the door frame such as steel tubes to protect the driver and passengers.
