If anybody needs proof that Barbara Stanwyck is the greatest actress in film history, here it is. Bette Davis wasn't fit to lick the sole of Stany's shoe.
I love the quiet, crisp atmosphere when John looks over the edge, smoking his cigarette and adjusting his coat. This scene moves me to tears every time. Thank you for posting.

As you should, and I'm glad that you do. His scene where he's giving Gary Cooper the works about what trap he's fallen into is still one of the two or three best drunk scenes I've ever seen.

And 69 years ago it was criticized as being the wrong ending, out of too many choices. Maybe it was, 69 years ago. But now it is perfect.
