He often came home complaining of the lack of manners, social skills and decorum of his clients. He was always sympathetic with the plight of polite, well mannered harmless travellers who were often provoked beyond reason by his clients. Funny thing is he didn't even know his own routes at the time. He died in 1995 and I only found out about the Monts being gypsies after he died.

What the general public don't seem to understand is that there are different kinds of Travellers. Those in this film are Irish Travellers, they are not English Travellers, Romany's, or Showmen.

How do I feel about Traveller camps eh?...Well I was disgusted by the amount of sick animals we seized from them. But my point was not really to do with exact location. My point is that you are putting across a very biased point of view. As I said, yes there is unfair prejudice towards travellers, but it is also unfair that locals are often scared away from common areas & rubbish is left for others to clear up. No locals are interviewed in this clip, nor footage of sites after travellers leave.

@baronesscat - you're right, the locations where you filmed are not the exact locations that I am referring to, however it is the same general area: East Brighton. You might not know this but travellers frequently move onto the area surrounding the children's playground in the park or onto the football pitch nearby...all are within the general vicinity of the race course and near the marina..

My only regret about the film is that I did not film the empty land, clean as it was found. That is to say that I now live on a boat and have done for the last 7 years, prior to that I lived in a caravan for 6 years. My great grandfather was a traveller from County Clare but he settled in Hastings, ironically his grandson, my dad, Neville Mont, became Under Sheriff of Sussex and part o fhis job was traveller eviction.

He often came home complaining of the lack of manners, social skills and decorum of his clients. He was always sympathetic with the plight of polite, well mannered harmless travellers who were often provoked beyond reason by his clients. Funny thing is he didn't even know his own routes at the time. He died in 1995 and I only found out about the Monts being gypsies after he died.

What the general public don't seem to understand is that there are different kinds of Travellers. Those in this film are Irish Travellers, they are not English Travellers, Romany's, or Showmen.
Most Travellers these days are settled and may well be living next door to you, and unless they tell you they are Travellers, you most likely wouldn't know. Most Romany's and Showmen are educated these days, often highly educated, it is just the Irish Travellers that seem to have been left behind.

People should have the right to choose how and where they live, If people dont want to live in a house why should they, Theres no difference than living in a holiday caravan for 6 months of the year, Not all people who live in caravans are criminals, How many people live on Boats just To avoid paying council Tax I know a few Are these not criminals Just Because we live in houses dosent give us the right to judge others or dictate how they should live.

But my point was not really to do with exact location. My point is that you are putting across a very biased point of view. As I said, yes there is unfair prejudice towards travellers, but it is also unfair that locals are often scared away from common areas & rubbish is left for others to clear up. No locals are interviewed in this clip, nor footage of sites after travellers leave.

@baronesscat - you're right, the locations where you filmed are not the exact locations that I am referring to, however it is the same general area: East Brighton. You might not know this but travellers frequently move onto the area surrounding the children's playground in the park or onto the football pitch nearby...all are within the general vicinity of the race course and near the marina..

@bluemorpho12 a week after filming I took the final cut to show the travellers because I had promised them I would. They were gone and there was not a scrap of rubbish left. My only regret about the film is that I did not film the empty land, clean as it was found. Further than that I cannot say, there is good and bad in all of us and I'm not saying all travellers are good as you can see from all my comments in the past.

I live near where this was filmed. Travellers often move on for several days at a time, often surrounding a children's playground. Although some of the travellers children can be friendly, we have been attacked, chased by their dogs and verbally abused for simply walking past by others, not just once but on several occasions. None of this side is shown in this clip, nor is it shown how the park is left afterwards, covered in rubbish.

@bluemorpho12 it was not filmed in a park, it was filmed at the race track and down at the end of Madera Drive by the Marina.
I think you are confused as to the locations as there are no residential houses near either location that we filmed at.

people often only notice badly behaved or pretend travelers. mostly you could walk past us in the street or even have a conversation with us and not have an inkling who we are. it's the pretend travelers who give us the worst name and the dirty ones an sadly they are the ones who are noticed. thanks for making this vid, fiona and putting up with the same old racist comments afterwards. bless u

Yes there's definitely good & bad in all sectors- true respectful travellers who leave places in the same condition as when they arrived & those who don't give a damn.
Some arent travellers- & harrass the old by destroying their roof then frog-march them to cash machines to pay to 'fix it'!
My 'neighbour' was jailed for such bullying.

@starzus - no amount of 'embracing' THAT guy worked! Oh I tried! He use to BULLY everyone! He made life hell & was finally jailed when caught extorting cash off vulnerable pensioners in exchange for 'fixing' their property which he'd just destroyed.
He's of 'traveller' heritage but rented a flat & various boltholes. His family own caravans AND houses & are financially very well off.
He littered ANYWHERE, intimidated ALL & wrecked our lives for years!
I THANKED GOD the day he was jailed.

I am sure there are many travellers who are great people but there is a portion who take over idyllic country lanes, laybys and any piece of land and turn them in sess pools of filth, the crap is unbelivable and we are ment to live near to it, when they finally move on the tons of shite left behind is a disrace.the level of crime increases as well as distrust by the locals .

You are not living in the real world, try having them live around you! We have five families of them living on our street, they are no joke. Constant fighting, shouting and general antisocial behaviour. I feel sorry for the British people as they are our problem. Although when they leave Ireland we are happy.
