  • This would be kick @ss if i did this for a project in theater

  • this is from the haunted mansion right?

  • @yasu3japan Nup, it's the 1928 remake of the 1925 film 'The Phantom of the Opera'.

  • sounds like erik is going through puberty

  • Omg I WAS SCaRY in 0:34 o.O

  • oh my god with the voices it was way more scary

  • 0.o Sounds like my brother every time he stubs his toe on the dining room chair on his way to the kitchen. Of course, this is a little more serious, but the connection is still there.

  • That was brilliant. If you did the voice, it was fantastically controlled and even just through your voice you could hear all the emotion behind it and be in the moment of how this would have felt. Yes... his voice is described as angelic, but their are many versions, and I just think this greatly portrays the pain and hurt at that very moment. It's just so cool how when you listen to this chills go down your spine.

  • That scared the poopies outta me

  • that scared the shit out of me

  • Very good. I like the piano music in the begining. :) Haunted Mansion. sweet.

  • god! wonderful! the voice is actually scarier than the face, which i like. always thought he must have some sort of body dismophia thing going on

  • Forget what I said about doing the whole thing. I just realized that is WAY more than Erik and Christine, there is the Opera parts, minor characters, sound effects. (such as the chandelier crash or the torture chamber's water trick, the violin...), it would just be too complicated.

  • Lon Chaney worked really hard to perform this character. I read it once in internet that "there was a lot of bleeding" due his make up. He had to put egg membrane on his eyes. Well, it's the "perfect" deformation for a Phantom, and the voice of the guy here shows it. Erik wasn't beautiful. His voice was, but It sure would be like this if the woman he loves reveals his most hideous secret. Thank you for the video (: Are you planning doing the whole novel or something? Cause I guess It would work.

  • Did you see what I saw! I saw something scary!

  • Did you know that Lloyd Webber's sequel will premiere in the 100th anniversary year of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA? Gaston Leroux's original novel was first serialised in 1909 and first published in book format in 1910. To find out more and to receive all the latest news concerning everything PHANTOM, follow @fantomedelopera on Twitter!

  • awesome!! was it you doing this? if so, you should make an audiobook of it with you as the phantom! youre that good!

  • thank you! I'm writing a Phantom play/movie. all i have written as of now is Christine + Raoul in Christine's dressing room just before Erik snatches her, the snatching moment, the boat ride, the first lair scene (unmasking and all, condensed to take place in a few minutes, similar to the book), Christine with Raoul after Erik takes her back, the roof scene, Erik snatching her again and the final lair scene (this last still in progress.) the vid has helped me with the unmasking acting-wise.

  • good acting my friend!I watched this on my moms laptop on my moms laptop in bed at about 9:00 or 10:00 my sister yelled"ethan!"in a worried voice and my heart felt num when erik screamed.

  • invaderpink,OMG u saw the commercial two?!It scare me so bad u poop mah pants!

  • Omg! That scream scared the heck out of me!!! I was scratching my eye, so I didn't really see what was going on. I think I jumped three inches in my chair!

    Great Video!

  • Ah. An opinion I can trust. Coming from a weirdo-gothy-vampire type like yourself, I'm sure compliments on my sucking abilities are of the highest merit.

  • don't listen to him. you did an amazing job. did you do the voice? very good! when he screamed, my heart skipped a beat and my eyes widened. lol.

  • wow, the shouting part made me jump put of my chair.....then when the shouting stretch.....well....i started to laugh......HAHAHAHA !brilliant voice acting .....would freak my young brother....and classmates....

  • that scared the CRAP OUTTA ME HOLY oh my !! ill stick with the more recent phantom thank you.... at least that one doesnt jump out of nowhere oh my gosh! it was like that scary car comerical where that zombie....

  • This was nicely done, but his voice was more horrifying than I think was ever intended by anyone. Leroux describes Erik's voice as "adorable" and "angelic." Even if he is angry, or filled up with grief as in this scene, his voice should still have a semblance of beauty in it. The way you did it made him simply sound monstrous, and I don't think that's how it should have been. Just some thoughts (:

  • Thanks, Sharingan! I appreciate criticism when it's thoughtful and constructive!

  • Nicely done! I'm hoping to do a Chaney-esque makeup in the future and you've inspired me to try some dramatics with it!

  • it made me cry...

  • omg really good voice over, r u an actor or something if so you should really persue it. Very good voice!

  • i think you were good!

  • I've done stage before........ best advice I can give:

1.Trust your gut feelings - play the role how YOU feel it.

    2. Never allow bad criticism get you down, instead harness the feeling the bad critics have given you and use that in the appropriate roles. [ie., if they make you mad then remember how you felt and use in roles of anger]

    3. Always remember you are your own worst critic!

    4. Remember you have a new fan here ;)

    Well done ImhotepsAshes *standing ovation*

  • Seriously, call Andrew Lloyd Webber or the Leroux estate or something, they need to make a film and cast you.

  • the shrill screaming scared the shit outa me

  • I'm sorry, but you make Erik sound like a drunk Stewie Griffin, it's just overacting.

  • It's all very well for you to despise this performance. But could you please, please, PLEASE leave some constructive criticism so I may better myself and learn to stop offending you?

  • You haven't offended me sir. Just the phan in me. Every Leroux follower has their own idea of what Erik should sound like, and he does hiss incoherently and all that in the book, but to act that out is another thing. And as an actor myself, I just wouldn't have done it that way, that's what I wanted to say, even if I was sort of rude in my comment. No hard feelings, but if you want to "better yourself", as you wrote, remember less is more.

  • But if this is how you feel that Erik should sound, then okay, everyone has their own version. I just want to voice my honest opinion, allthough your hoard of fans will probably "downthumb" me for doing so.

  • No, no, it's good to hear different opinions! I am a fan of melodrama and believe theatre should be theatrical, and this is what comes through here I think.

  • All I have to say is WOW! You're amazing! I had my volume on high because it doesn't work that well...I jumped at the unmasking part. xD

  • I,I just want to say to you,James:Bravo! You're a great actor and I don't have words to express my gratitude and the emotions you provoked in me! That was the thing that made me tremble in fear and cry in sympathy for Erik! Just great and beautiful in a strange way.Because even in a man as ugly as Erik, there is beauty.Beauty of the soul. And who read the book, knows that.I just bow before you and your work!

  • very emotional.Sorry,I pressed Enter by mistake.

  • That's the sign of a good book and a good recreation! The book is one of favorites. And this video, even so terrifying,is in my favorites.Because if it can make somebody understand the character of Erik, even if he hasn't read the book, then it is great and

  • Good, its just, isn't he supposed to have a beautiful voice that is opposite of his ugliness?

  • It's not that your voice is bad, I just can't imagine that voice singing in a way that would trick a person to fall of a boat or something. (He did that in the book, for those who don't know.)

  • I'm in complete agreement - I'm an absolutely dreadful singer, and could never attempt the part exactly as written. However, I can't imagine the Phantom's voice sounding anything close to beautiful in the unmasking, that "superhuman cry of grief and rage"! I can only do what I can with my natural voice - just as Erik could only do what he could with his (un)natural face.

  • I love that version of Buddy Baker's "Grim Grinning Ghosts," from "The Haunted Mansion."

  • Oh...my...gosh....

No wonder Christine was so afraid! I always thought it was awful of her to run away like she did, but honestly, that was terrifying.

Beautiful acted, very heart-breaking, and quite scary, too.

    Brilliant work!!!

  • This was the best reenactment ever! You really captured the essence of The scene. And I know who Erik is now.I just got through the unmasking scene in the book, and It was Great!

  • Try watching this at night, with a thunderstorm outside and the speakers turned to max!I wouldn't try it!

  • AmbraZayn The Actor was Lon Chaney and I have a question Who is Erik?I've never watched the movie and I'm just starting the book (at page 75 now)?

  • Erik is the phantom of the opera, thats his real name

  • 'Feast your eyes and glut your soul on my cursed ugliness!!' poor Erik. u really got the escense of the moment. i've read the book loads of times and this scene always makes me feel sad. brilliant video.xxx

  • where can i get the music that played in the background from 0:42-3:46?

  • It's from the Carl Davis score for the Photoplay restoration of Chaney's "Phantom". It was issued on CD a few years ago. Well worth tracking down - some very atmospheric and beautiful music.

  • wonderful acting, you should consider going professional acting

  • that scream scared the shit out of me... other than that, it was an awesome vid. keep up the good work.

  • my.....you've really got the character down. Very impressive! bravo!

  • Omg Bato thats great i love what you did, its so great man i got 2 give u so prups dude i love u, in a scale of 1-10 i give u 100 man!

    garicas for these its great!

  • god that was creepy!

  • I think ImhotepsAshe's is very emotinal in a different way then all the rest. I will say I did jump at 00:33! I really enjoyed this version.

  • Love this. It's so... i don't know. Phantom is not ugly . He's just diffrent. I think...

  • yeah. pity he wasn't alive now, if he was, just a little...umm, make that a *lot* of plastic surgery, and his ugly little problem (pun *very* intended, thank you!) would be solved!

  • i love phantom of the opera and i read the and i memorized the book. i can do a good inpression of christine.

  • Well, you're pleasant.

  • Wait this is supposed to be before the Phantom of Opera? Right? I think you did a good job. Pretty scary sounding and it was definitely realistic. The voice though I must agree with vlade was a bit obnoxious after the first minute. Yet you will have a great chance in the movie or acting business.

  • haha.

  • That is rather harsh.

  • how did you think to do this and how do you do this when you are only 15? the music works perfectly. are you REALLY 15? you sound like a 40 year old man. i just can't hear 15. incredible. nothing else i can say.

  • I just love the tint and the way you made the first appearance flash on screen, it really recreated the horror the viewers back in the 20s felt. The voiceover is... talented definitely. Not sure whether I like it here though... But cheers anyway, and thanks for that:)

  • brilliant. you either have a perfectly controlled voice, or a sensational, fiery uncontrolled voice (that still remains perfect). either way, it reduced me to shaking limbs and tears, and for that i give you my thanks. sheer brilliance.

  • very, very superb. there are no words for how amazing this is. you are truely talented to have that kind of voice. it is truely a gift.

    God bless you.

  • God bless you for such kindness! Thank you!

  • oh my god. this is you? it is very moving. this is how i imagined erik would sound during this scene. are you really making a one man show of this? i have always wanted to do a play of the original that was actually really well done. very well done! bravo!!!!!

  • I'm still busy writing the one man show... It's coming along extremely well at the moment. I'll keep you all posted with updates!

  • awesome!

  • This was VERY well done, however; occasionally your articulation was difficult to decipher. Upon second viewing, I simply took note of the sound of it and found what I enjoyed about "The Phantom's Lament", in contrast to this, was that you'd delivered the lines so melodically that your overall performance was very poetic. One a side note, I know you tired to make Erick "monstrously furious", but I'd suggest toning down the voice and, if on stage, evening out the intensity through body language.

  • Point well taken. In my defence, I'd have to add that the recording quality still isn't all that good and the volume level does vary quite a bit. I'm still busy writing the one-man show version, and let me at least assure you that most of it's FAR more subdued than this!! But thank you for the criticism.

  • Holy shiznit dude, you got some talent for horror, acting, visually and psychologically terrifying people. AWESOME!!!!

  • Very kewl! I definatly jumped! Very good job

  • If they do ever make a movie of the orginal book, I want you to go and audition :)

Seriously, this is amazing! Please, I want more!

  • Very impressive piece of work! That has to be the scariest moment in film history, and you just made it even scarier!

I must ask, where did you get that Haunted Mansion music from?

  • Check the "grimghosts" webpage - they have a small archive of music available... Thank you very much for the kind remarks.

  • Do you mean in the downloads graveyard, because after searching through there I wasn't able to find this track..it just had a bunch of tracks that sounded as though the maker of the site made them him/herself.

  • Go into either one of the "Secrets" sections, and then click on "Source Loops".

  • Okay, I found it. Thanks! And once again, great work!

  • i love it.. so scary it made me jump. but its really good

  • *does EXTREME happy dance, while squeaking and squealing the whole way* LOLOL!!!

BRAVO!!!!!!! *VERY* good voice acting - perhaps a little overdone in parts - but still *VERY* likable/chilling/captivating/enthralling!!! *DROOL*

Did you read that directly from the book?

  • Yes - directly from the book, pure and unadulterated. As for the "overdone" comment, I'm sorry if it was a bit too hammy. But I do hate it when people "play it cool" and put no effort in to acting. And Erik is described as ferociously, monstrously furious at this point. I don't think I did Leroux's awesome description full justice from THAT angle... But thanks for the criticism anyway!

  • I like it... really... the voice, the music... more... please!!!

  • Yet another wonderful video and an amazing voice ^^ Bravo.

  • Omg...You are amazing, I got massive chills!! Thank you so much for this, it rocks!!!

  • yay i get to comment and rate first! anyway, i gotta give you two thumbs up for doing such a fantastically frightening job with this and i love the music too!
