  • I Have One With This Same Issue But I Dont Have The Money To Put In It So If Anyone Is Interested In Buying It E Mail Me @bookyoungnotti@gmail.com

  • This is a firewire failure NOT a firmware update. The firewire light is blinking 5 times then 3, that is the firewire failure. Have it repaired. They do not make a better all in one DAW control surface and audio interface!!

  • I had this happen to both the fw-1884 and the smaller model. what i did to fix was firmware upgrade. somehow the firmware gets corrupted really easy. now what i did was with the fw-1884 hooked up and not synced. download the firmware updater from tascam website. open rar and run updater. power on and off untill you see it connect to the updater. once it connects click update. worked for me on both the 1082 - 1884. i know you might have fixed this issue already. just posting my 2 cents.

  • this happened to me too. people if you are using Logic go to... "logic pro" "preferences" "control surfaces" "setup" "new" "install"... ok then manually add the tascam 1884 two times. you need to see two images of the tascam in the window on the right. ok now select the one that says "#2" beside it. that's it. restart logic and you should be good to go! i have no idea why this works or how i even discovered it but it tried everything and and a big FAIL!!!
  • Sorry meant ro reply sooner. Got my 1884 out of the shop (they had it for close to 3mnths)!! But basically I had to replace the firewire chip. cost close to $300.00!!! Was reluctant to do it but since they charged to look at it I may as well finish paying for it! all is well now tho so..

  • UH oh..................now watching this just made me change my mind from buying it.

  • @Vortex4001

These probs only occurred with the first series made...

  • i have a tascam 2488. and i called sam ash music store, and asked for the 800 number for tascam. and tasacm has digital and analog departments. and helped me alot. and how to reset my 1488. try that. later

  • @napalmvoododaddy 2488 i mean

  • Nope, no good. Guess I gotta find a shop somewhere near here. Thanks tho for ya help.

  • I got mine in 04. Never had a problem with it til now. I took my studio apart and boxed everything up for a few months connected it all back exactly how I left it and it was the only thing not working. I will let U know how it turns out tho

  • Can anyone post how to do a reset on the 1884? Mine is doing the same thing as in the video and I want to make sure before I sen it in for service.

  • hi FiVe0SiXBand,

try this to reset all the mixer parameters to default values

    = SHFT+CTRL+F8

but I think there is some other 'reset' option where you push 4 buttons at the same time.

I'll look further and let you know...

Say, how old is your tascam? Because these probs only occured with the first lines that came out of production.

But don't worry though because it is quite cheap to fix!

I have mine for 6 years now and am still very happy with it!! Never had any other probs than this here

  • @FiVe0SiXBand

and I guess you have to do it in 'midi control' mode. I'm not sure, but I think the manual states that.

But just to be sure, try it in the three different modes...

  • @FiVe0SiXBand

    ok, found it:

    1. With the 1884's power OFF

    2. Hold down the following buttons: PAN, FLIP, AUX3, AUX4 and simultaneously power on FW1884.

If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry, but you'll have to repair it... but again don't worry because it's not a big cost. But don't go to the big big store 'caus they tend to ask waaaay over the price.

  • @FiVe0SiXBand

and maybe let us know how it went...

Just so others with the same issue can have more info...

  • i dont have a firewire texas chipset card. If I plug the desk into my fireware should the "firewire" light on the unit come on anyways... The firewire light has never come on for me

Am I looking at sending the desk back for repair or going and getting a texas T1 Chip set firewire card???

    Please advise....

  • can some one tell me the diferences betwen thr tascam FW-1884 and the tascam FW- 1082 thanks!

FW-1884 worth all the money? or i can get the 1082? thanks!

  • is there a firrmware istaller arround (AS OPPOSED TO THE FIRMWARE UPDATER FOUND ON THE SITE)

I was in the middle of updating it when i had a power failure it seems the firware has been erased off my 1884 now.. HELP PLEASE!!!

  • hey there, i have the 1082, do you know if they have some sorta of demo mode when you can see the moving faders work?

    Thx

  • No, I don't think so, but it's quite easy to make one youself.

Just make 8 track (or so) and 'write' your movements.

Then let it loop and you have your demo.

But I doubt that this is what you mean, no?

  • @craeli

Try holding down REW STOP REC and SET while powering up. This should set your 1082 in demo mode. Press the mute buttons above the faders for different fader test modes. Hope this helps!

    -Chris

  • hey Chris, thx for the info ill try it for teh next time i turn the unit on. :)

    All the best.

  • i'm a tech the problem is look at the fiewire input if the top is spred apart the you have pluged it in upsidedown. now ic u9 has had 5v put in the output section and is fucked you need to take it in for service

  • Hey I'm looking around to find anyone how could help me with this problem, maybe you can help. When i bought this unit over a year ago it was fine and working, then one day my banks were not working and now I can't control Logic with it. The funny part is that when I do stuff with in Logic the fadrs work I can see all animation, could you shed light..thanks

  • Are you resolved your problem?

I've a problem (not big) with a fader of my FW 1884.

This one seems "not calibred" so when the fader (FW) is on top, the fader of logic is not (maybe at 75%) and the fader of the FW moves a lot around his position

    The fader is out?

  • Yes, the problem is in firewire inside your 1884. I had exactly same problem..send it to fix and it works like a charm again. It's not big deal!.

  • hey wassup man..so what was the problem man ..cuz i got the same problen but what i got is 1082 but the same problem..plzzzz..tell me how did u fix it....is the firewire or somthing like tha man?

  • is this just a controll surface for midi or can it be used for audio to

  • I own one - its a DAW (eg Cuebase/Protools etc...) workstation, very similar to the Mackie Control surfaces. However it also incorporates 8 channel analogue I/O (with Pre), 8 channel ADAT I/O and Stereo SPDIF I/O. Plus it also has 4 MIDI In/Outs to interface any device with your computer, and a fully programable mixer layer to control any Midi device you can be bothered to program. One of the best of its kind, apart from the problem the video shows.

    Hope that helped.

  • I had the same problen ...the poroblem is the firewere you have to send the tascam for fix ...is not a big problem ...

  • i had the same problem, and found a cable pinched under the bottom cover...took the cover off, and, voila!!....back in service....

  • READ THIS! i had this problem do not send the unit back all i had to do was update the firmware, the firmware update is available on the tascam site...it also helps if u buy a firewire card with a texas industries(T.I.) chip, u might have to update the firmware more than once....

right now i have another problem i have no audio till my system has been running for 10 minutes...this is because im not using a texas industries card...apart from that mine works fine!

  • hi, how did you install the firmware? when I try it does not even see the tascam... :(

  • hi there, its been a long time since i done this so try a few things, try to uninstall the fw 1884 then re install the newest drivers (available from the tascam site) and then install the the new firmware update (availabe from the tascam site) and it should work fine, bear in mind you might have to do this a few times and restart your system and FW 1884 a few times

  • . i was and still am using a windows xp system(if u have a MAC or VISTA system i dont know anything!?) and i advise that you buy a fire wire card built by texas industries not VIA or any other make.

but in general fiddle around with the firmware up date and u should get it working... firm ware is a chip inside the fw 1884 that instructs the unit and makes it talk to the PC, so its not so hard to fix, dont connect any midi devices during the fix, let me know if ive helped or not cheers :)

  • open it and see if any of the ribbon cables are detached.

  • something is fryed on your board you have to sent it to tascam for repair. i burned out my firewire port and that happened so tascam repaired it for 300 bucks

  • so what should be done when this happens? This just happened to my FW-1884 as well. I'm at a loss.

  • I'm sorry, but you'll have to bring it to an official dealer to fix the prob...

It won't cost much though! Around a 100 euro's for the work and the new chip.

But first, try to reset the Tascam!

I have to go to work now, but tonight I'll post how to do a complete reset of the Tascam.

There a two or three different ways. I'll look it up and will let you know...

  • hi, so what are the full reset ways? I'd appreciate it if you let me know, I got a brand new one but has the same symptons.

  • sorry for being 9 months late i havent kept tabs on my comments, have u got the Tascam working now?! if not just un install it, then re install it using the drivers from the tascam site, the tascam site also has the firmware update all u need to do is double click the firmware up date and it will install, but u might have to do this a few times and try turning the Tascam on and off after the install... i wanted to post this info on the tascam forum but the arse holes want to CHARGE us to join it

  • so what should be done when this happens? This just happened to my FW-1884 as well. I'm at a loss.

  • The guy who fixed it said that it was probably due to connecting the FW to my girlfriends macbook. Apparently the firewire of mac gives more power than others, and because of that the chips busted. My tascam is one of the first series, and those where taking power from the firewire cable, now the guy has made it so that the firewire port is feeded by the tascam itself. It takes the internal power now so this can't happen again (theoreticaly)

  • Glad u got it sorted, mine didn't work when connected to my mac towers firewire port. Eventually got it to work by connecting thru the cinema disply port. weird eh? Can't complain tho, tascam gave me mine for free!

  • Thanks a lot for your help guys!!!! But the problem was a busted firewire chip! It costed around 100€... Bugger, but the shite's gone for sure...

  • Looks like a firmware error to me. The onboard memory may have been blanked poss due to a power surge or something. Best get on the dog to tascam, & be persistant their customer service is relaxed...

  • nope, just turned it off in the evening, and when I turned it back on in the morning this was the result I got...

Man, I'm dying... toghether with my gear :):)

  • Updates? I just purchased one (2 generations down) and I want to know if mine will be susceptible...thanks.

  • Did you get the wet?
