  • I think old Tesla rotating in his grave if he knows that his coils tunrd up like this, but wat the hell, crank it up.

  • I freaked the fuck out!

  • BTW, how much juice those those things draw to run?

  • All these nerds and still listing it as Dr. Who instead of the correct version of Doctor Who :)

  • 24 people had to pay the electricity bill.

    Sehr geil!

  • Vid is good ! More Tesla tech and science in videos "Wonderful electric system" by HorizonDelta ;-)))

  • Easily the best thing ever to happen.

  • sooo amazing! that was definitely the coolest thing i've ever seen/heard.

  • Pretty damn cool!!

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my geeky heart is happy now - that is just awesome

  • Several months ago I began watching all available Dr. Who's from the first year onward and I still have a way to go. For this group to do one of my absolute favorite theme songs (which was way ahead of its time when it was first done in the 60's) is really neat. I first saw Arc Attack on AGT and loved them, and it is a shame that they didn't progress into the finals. I do hope that they TOUR MICHIGAN FOR A PRICE THAT i CAN AFFORD TO TAKE MY GRANDKIDS TO.

  • This...is....fabulous! I second Scrumdiddly42!!!

  • YEEhar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So Awersome, I love it

  • Win.

  • Be nice if they do this on America's Got Talent...complete with Tardis...

  • Anyone else notice the random guy in stilts walk past?

    ...Anyone?

  • @AstroSpaceAdventures That is the guy who wears the suit now on Americas Got Talent.

  • i would call it...

the singing palpatine device (tm) ^^

  • I decree that these people win.

  • That'd make a helluva home security system. "Ah, nobody around, I'll just jimmy open this... BZZZZZZZZZZZZZRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAT"

  • this is completely amazing!

  • this is why science is cool!

  • @cheeseboy340 you said it man!

  • are they somehow controlling where the lightning hits the pole? its so awesome if you see it where the lightning actually goes to a person its awesome

  • lol that was cool as hell

  • i think the awesomeness may have blown my mind

  • love it!!!

  • i got GOOSEBUMPS while listening 2 this AWESOMELY EPIC version of Dr. Who!!!

  • That was to cool!!!

  • do under the miky way - the chirch

    on twin TC's!

that's how i call my silcon based people!

sounds like pink floyd - welcome to the machine

  • I think this is how it was meant to be played.

  • remove the stupid audio track so we can hear what sounds the tesla coils are actually making, i'd bet it's unrecognizable.

  • @alphabetacharliedelt The beat/drum track sounds like they were playing it there with a plain ol' loudspeaker (tesla coils can't produce low-frequency without being enormous), but the melody tracks heard are well within the possibility of coils that large. Because the music is so electronic anyways, it reproduces fairly well when run through the crude amplifier that is a tesla coil

  • The Doctor Who part of my brain is squealing in joy!!

  • this is the first time iv ever had a nerdgasm...it was special...

  • are they a cardboard crowd? cool remix n light show

  • This is the best thing anyone has ever done.

  • When does this happen? Is it every year? if so what are dates?

  • I wish to thank Nikola Tesla for making this possible!!!

  • Is this in chattanooga tennesee?

  • yes

  • @joedog158 tell me....who's the guy on the stilts, & what does he do?

  • Kickass. :D

  • Is there an mp3 with this? It's way too awesome.

  • @VirtualGamer42 I would bet on it, as far as I know, what he's doing with the coils creates the buzz noise you hear in the background, that follows the musics general tone.

  • omg i was there last year and this year again they r AWSOMENESS!!!!!!!!!

  • TESLA, you rock!!

    LadyViewer

  • GO, TESLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Epic. The coolest thing ever.

  • have a few strogbows and listen to this

it gets better every time you play it

  • :O Sexeh!

  • its a great show man, try to find it, there is a reason its the longest running show in history.

  • I like it because it sounds like the older theme tune :)

  • It specificaly sounds like the howell version.

the current version is more of a suped up version of the original derbishire version (it actualy uses it in the background)

  • This just seems so..... appropriate, somehow.

  • Oh that is EPIC!!

  • "Fantastic!"

Was the dude on the stilts supposed to be David Tennant? tehehe

  • another reason for me to kick myself for not going to chattacon hopefully he'll do ti again next year

  • wow - i have loved this theme music and all the versions - this is kewl

  • That is awesome.

  • Delia Derbyshire would approve

  • That is so fucking cool.

  • Brilliant!

  • Comment removed

  • @Bencool141: Do you not understand the nature of a Tesla coil? Larger ones can overpower the volume of a jet engine at peak output, and solid state ones can produce single, simple notes eith ease, and chords/different tones in more carefully controlled setups, or when more power is available (chords can nearly double the draw of each coil to 60-100Amps).

  • i'll bet people had issues with their hair after that.

  • yay!

  • Sounds awesome! Is it available in a recorded version (without the cheering people)?

  • So flippin cool. Pretty rockin!!! Agreeance with HorusHeretic!

  • fucking awesome!

  • didn't now electricity could do music so well XD

  • EPIC! Undoubtabley EPIC

  • WELL DONE!!!!

  • Fucking A+!!

  • Nikola Tesla would be proud.

  • @Takeshi357 I don't think so, even though I think this performance is cool. I think Nikola Tesla would be disappointed to see his inventions used only for theatrical effects instead of worldwide wireless distribution of electrical energy.

  • @DevilMaster

    *ahem*

Arcs connected to the ground whilst feet were raised....

What would YOU like to start on fire?

  • @Takeshi357 he probably did this in his spare time

  • @Takeshi357 that or pissed that they stole his stuff. bastard was crazy

  • tesla coils = awesome!

  • I can see the Daleks coming down and looking at the tesla coils, saying 'Bob? From high school?'

  • 'my science project'?

  • What? You seem to have replied to the wrong comment...

  • rofl

  • @hotelmario510 That comment was freaking brilliant.

  • @ibx33 :)

  • :D better than the original theme!!

  • I saw them around a month ago live. They were bloody fantastic. Most awesome thing I've seen in awhile.

  • yay! awesome stuff!

  • HOLY FREAKING SHIT! next thing you know, they probably put some wheels on them, program them to some thinking robots and let them say: EXTERMINATE!

    F*CKING AWESOME!

  • awesome.

  • FUUCCCCKKKKK MEEEEE

  • You are KIDDING me!? those things can be used as music instruments?? O.O!

  • wow

  • Words cannot describe how hard my inner geek is screaming with joy right now.

  • Would be even cooler if the video was properly synced with the sound. (HINT.)

  • This is extremely cool O_O

  • OMG Im a doctor who fan only david tennants

  • Would be better without the keyboard and drums tbh

  • Don't diss the robotic drums. :P

  • Yeah, I was trying to tune out the keyboards in particular ot listen to the tesla coils, especially on the middle eight. I wish I could hear it with just the teslas.

  • This should be the music used for Matt Smith's era. Totally bad-ass.

  • where can i get myself a set of these

  • hahahah omg ily doctor who

  • Why did people tag this message as spam?

  • tesla coils are probably the best possible way to make music

  • Whoa! How cool was that?

  • thats tight.... good old tesla

  • This oughta be the new intro theme they do for the 2010 series lol!

  • That was amazing!

  • SCIENCE

  • how the fuck did they get the tardis sound?! fuck yes

  • I wonder what took place when The Doctor met Nikola Tesla......

  • Backing track ruins it - I can't tell what's on tape and what the coils are doing.

  • cool

  • yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

  • fucking amazing!

  • Sound is vibrations of the air (like waves in water). Light is photons moving through the air. Scientists don't understand photons that well--they act like waves but also like particles. Electricity is moving electrons. There's no waves involved. Energy is a physics term like force or power. For this the electric arcs heat up the air really quick and makes it vibrate, like how lightning makes thunder. If they control the amount of electricity they control heat of the arc and the sound it makes.

  • Electricity itself isn't a wave, it's electrons, but you can make electrons move around in a wave if you want to, same as you can make air move around like a wave. So they make the electrons move around based on a soundwave and when it crosses the gap and makes an arc the heat will make the same wave in the air (they probably have to pitch shift it though).

  • Wrong, there are waves involved... when lightning strikes you here thunder...if there weren't waves involved then there'd be no thunder.. tesla coils make sound... van de graff machines make sound..

  • Thunder is produced by the heat of the lightning bolt hitting the surrounding air. Rapid expansion of air = shockwave.

  • yer.. not shit...your point is what?

  • Just adding information to what you said. Clarification, if you like.

  • Alright, real slow like. Very carefully now, put your hands behind your back, and very firmly grasp the giant dick in your ass. Pull it out, then maybe you'll be able to speak like a normal human being.

It's a miracle you ever managed to pass any sort of science class with your room temperature IQ.

  • BRAVO!!! WELL DONE!!!!

  • HOW?!?!?!?!?! AMAZING?!?!?!?!

  • Whatcha gotta understand is light, sound, and energy are pretty much riding the same wavelength. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Though it did sound very philosphical, you are wrong.

Here comes the science bit....visible light has a wavelength in the order of 400-650 nanometers (to put this into context, think of Ben Affleck's penis). Sound on the other hand typically has a wavelength in the order of metres (think J-Lo's waistline).

Sound and light are both examples of energy radition ( think in terms of catching a bad case of the clap from Miley Cyrus and then tranmitting it from person A to person B).

  • Though I would of course concede that due to the relitively small distance between arc and audience this is probably something of a pedantic comment (like Britney Spears telling you it's not a Big Mac it's a Whopper).

  • Sound is the physical vibration of air molecules, not electromagnetic radiation.

The human ear can generally hear between 20Hz and 20kHz, corresponding to between 5 centimeters and 50 micrometers in wavelength.

  • Nah, the sound here is like very mild thunder. Kinda thrilling to play the Dr Who theme in mini-thunder!

  • Would that mean that one could, theoretically speaking, use a Thunderstorm to generate music? (of course, humanity would, first and foremost, have to invent technology for weather manipulation)

  • If I remember correctly, they "modulate" the pulses of the coil so that it goes on and off in a certain frequency, generating sound.

  • Yeah, I think its like a high frequency 1-bit dithered audio output.

  • Oh nice, thank you!

  • Oh god this is so awesome.

  • These need a high quality CD label.

    Id so buy the album

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!

  • Fuckin ROOOOOCK

  • go nikola tesla

  • Somewhere, Nikola Tesla is smiling.....

  • Russel T Davis->billiepipersteeth

  • Just awesome. I usually use the term "nerdgasm" but I think I now prefer "geeked my pants"

  • oOo Wow - awesome

  • cor blimey

  • Hey Joe! Cprossu here, long time no talk/see/post/etc, which forums you hanging around these days? Awesome rendition of the theme btw!

  • We're still at mindfleet (dot) com!

  • you'd be dead :)

  • how badly hurt could u be by a tesler coil?

  • The electricity is extremely strong. Strong enough to kill you.

  • That is AWESOME.

  • kkthx is a noob

  • lol thats fucking great

  • !add FFS

  • Absolutely amazing! =D

  • Ehehehe!

    That's... that's just--

That's just too awesome for words.

    *looks down*

    "Geeked my pants" works.

  • Somewhere in analog heaven Delia Derbyshire is smiling...

  • omg, that is the best ever! i'm getting goosebumps hearing this. This is undescribable.. omg omg omg.. omg..

  • omg i just geeked my pants - thats brilliant

  • "geeked my pants" is the best way to put that that I've ever heard.

  • I am SO officially adding that phrase to my repertoire. Rock on Spanther!

  • That's just fucking beautiful.

  • Sweet!

  • When I saw an ArcAttack video for the first time, I immediately thought of "Doctor Who". Or Daleks, more specifically. Glad I found this.

  • That is SICK!

  • awesome

  • Should have excluded the drums...otherwise good.

  • oh what the melody wasn't played on the tesla.
