Thanks! - I stand on the middle of the rope and the bottom of the handles comes to 2" below my armpit, Totally could not jump when I started - like I was afraid to have both feet off the ground at the same time. Practiced a little each day. Eventually muscle memory takes over and it's all good. This video is 2 years old - better crossovers in later videos. They were hard to learn, but stick with it - I never dreamed I could do any of this when I started or that it would be fun.
I tried to do that when I was in my early twenties, drunk and blowed away...I broke my forking ankle...I'm an old man now and I can tell ya when it's gonna rain. Snicker.
No, I pretty much just jump rope to music. I used to ride an exercise bike every day but at age 55 I tried jumping for a change - turned out to be fun. So you don't have to be athletic to do this and benefit, which convinces me millions could get the same results if they just knew about it. I hope to inspire people to start because of the benefits I've gotten at my age, but it's the fun that will keep them at it.
You will!! Judging from your picture and your age you'll do better - just focus on how you feel and get addicted. I got started by committing to start a workout (exercise bike) everyday, no matter what, to try and get past the lethargy after my day behind a desk. After I started I could quit as soon as I wanted which took away the dread of beginning. I was hooked in 3 weeks. Expecting to look forward to exrecise is like expecting your coffee to be sweet because you're about to put sugar in it.
Assuming that's a compliment, thanks Dash!!! This video is over 14 months old now - I updated the description to include a link to the playlist that always contains videos from my most recent taped workout. As I say in the description, the point is almost anyone could do this, feel better and have more energy every day; and as a happy side-effect be in increasingly better shape over the years, I was just lucky enough to stumble across an easy way to get into it.
If you click on the description there's a link to my most recent 'workout', which I post ever couple of weeks. To see all my videos, you can go to my youtube page at qfeguy.
I'm not sure what you mean - but I am 62 years old. I never expected jump rope would put me in this kind of shape, it just happened because jumping to music turned out to be fun - otheriwise I'd never have stuck with it. If that happened to me, and I never believed it would, why not millions of others , who also don't believe it would happen for them. But if you find out that jump rope is fun, it doesn't matter what you believe.
You can work out nearly all muscles - this video is 4 months old, check out the others. For skiing, do skiing moves, you can do flat turns or turns where you elevate your hips and variations in between. Do quick back and forth jumps with feet together. Do crossovers for upper body. Only muscles not really affected are arms and even they get leaned down. Jump to music as best you can and it will all come to you naturally.
ok i am trying with two left feet, whats the length of your rope i'm having trouble with the cross over.. this is great

When I say bottom of the handle, I mean the place where the rope goes into the handle.
