@Cr125rmxr ...no not at all. Motion isn't very good at anything to be honest. After Effects is a VERY powerful motion graphics tool and its a fairly decent VFX tool. However if you truly want to learn VFX, skip Motion, skip After Effects, skip HitFilm, and go straight to Nuke. Nuke is the single VFX tool used in ALL major studios.
Ive been learning Motion 4, its really powerful for making videos like this. If you're wanting to make special efx with live footage, After Effects might be the way to go. Check out my song "Method of Madness" to see how I've utilized Motion 4.
@Sindragosa21 It's not that AE is hard, it is that you don' know how to use it, as with any adobe product, to fully understand it, there is a huge learning curve. Motion is a little easier to start with, but ultimately requires you to just practice and learn it. I would recommend learning After Effects rather then Motion, I love motion, but After Effects makes you more valuable as far as editing jobs go.
Great work, very happy to find this. I think you're the only other person I've found who uses both their own video AND music, both are first rate. Check out my latest if you have a minute.
Great work, I'm really glad I found this. I think you're the only other person I've come across who's done both their own video and music work. Check out my latest effort when you have a second.
this would have been perfect if you had a person running down that hall in slow motion. would have been hard to do, layering in a 2d clip and all but still...
your best animation! Still not so hard to do, right? :) I am wondering how did you import a vanishing point inside Motion. I know it's possible in AfterEffects, but Motion? Let me know!
Check out my apple motion tutorials and animations on my channel!
@sdfstudio Just wondering how you used the vanishing point with Motion 3. Also Was that a photo that you took? The quality looks much higher than a normal texture. Thanks. Looks awesome.
yo SDF this is digiton studios. we havent made a movie yet but we're using final cut stdio. when it comes out its goin 2 be awesome. check out the website. soon we'll put up a sneek peek
i've watched this many times. it looks fantastic. there's one thing i'm desperate to know, and that is how did you generate those dust particles? they cannot be motion 3 particles because stock motion 3 particles don't look that good. After effects particles?? maya? 3ds max? please help me out. once again, great animation!
It might be made with motion 3, he/she might have created the cell particle and just made it into a particle emitter. But good question i'm curious myself.
Motion comes in the final cut studio bundle (currently in it's 3rd generation) which includes Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Apple Qadministrator, Apple Qmaster, Cinema Tools, Color, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro, and LiveType.
i want to know how to do flourishes like that in motion... after effects uses the evolution plug in ... what does motion use... some one please message me if they know.. thanks
You can get the florishes from Video Copilot "Evolution" it has a crap load of random elements to use. Not trying to advertise, but that's the pack that the florishes are from.
I think they (or whomever) used the camera in 3D mode to adjust the camera. Used a particle emitter for the pieces in the middle and they mask effect to reveal the shapes on the walls. Hope this helps a little.
Stunning video, love the music, the colours, particles and calligraphy. I'm sure many people, including myself, would be grateful if you could share how you made it!
Are you saying that you learned how to do this by only playing with motion? Can you please do a tutorial on how you did that? I'm with sonpit, I will cut off my right arm to learn that. Lol.
I'm not using other software. Everything is done in Motion.
Flourishes - You can find a few in Motion library.
How i learned to use Motion? - Practice. The software it is very well done. It is a real pleasure to work with, to experiment different things. Too bad that we can't find tutorials, plugins and presets (comparing to After Effects). Don't know why. Motion makes creating and sharing presets (effects, objects, camera, behaviors) very easy. Good luck!
For camera focus - use defocus filter, because in motion 3 there is no depth of field. u have to fake it :).
@MysticAFI - yes, it is just a photo transposed in 3d space using vanishing point filter in Photoshop. Actually the hard part is to obtain a good look for that photo in 3d space. the rest is easy - particle emitters, lights, wriggle behavior, defocus filter, color correction.

Nice work !!! I'm learning more and more each day about this stuff and I'm gonna trust to edit my first project but I was wondering if I want to use that what you did as a dvd menu dont I save the file in Motion 3 but import it in the dvd program I'm gonna use right ?
I'd love to hear more details - doesn't even have to be a really detailed tutorial. I just want to know what exactly you did - was this just a photo that you imported into motion and added all the particles?

I used a Photoshop filter called Vanishing Point and export the vpe file for After Effects. It will export projected images. This file can be applied in a box inside Motion 3.
