356mph, that's one hell of a train! Now, if only they could have trains running at those speeds on EVERYDAY services... London to Edinburgh in 40 minutes, Paris to Rome in a couple of hours... excellent!

Oh, God! It must be dangerous to travel that speed! It couldn't be Gods will that we shall travel faster on the earth than at the speed of a Volvo 740! I bet they'll got AIDS or something the passangers.
I cannot understand why the French and Japanese are so obsessed with attaining non-serviceable rail speed records.
Anyhow congrats! the Japanese can only match or exceed the speed of TGV by using maglevs.. that doesn't count! Real men make records on standard gauge tracks
318 km/h was the first TGV record in 1972. The standard speed of our trains today is around 320 km/h. 570 or 550 will most probably be the standard speed in a few years time.
It's really a shame the state of the rail system in the US is so shabby. Rail travel really isn't much of an option except in a very few limited markets. If they went where I want to go, I'd much rather take a train than fly.

Why did you put a minus on my comment? Don't you understand I'm completely serious!!!

Now 4 minus. Engineers has a great sense of humor indeed! ;)

How wonderful technology using gravity.

That's right no electricity the train was just on a steep hill.

What does the PK stand for in the topleft corner?
roflcopterlolladin 4 years ago
At 3:02 he talks about "Kilometer Point", so I guess the PK meter is showing how much kilometer the track has left.

Amazing!!
I know it's a bit academic, but what would be the stopping distance at that speed?
rowgli 4 years ago
Estimated 32 kilometres from 514...

Exactly Levoltaire. Clearly richshaw doesn't have an engineering perspective.

Even if the US could, don't you think the Americans would rather acquire "colonial" Japanese sets than the French?

rail transpor flourishing in the USA???? bwahahahaha. Would the American be willing to give up his gas guzzling trucks so easily?
