Had an officer locally in Port Angeles who kept his dog on the job until he was 12 years old ( Un-heard off and dumb) that was until one day he sent the dog after and assailant and the dog stroked out and died.

At 12 they are 70 + and the beauty of a German Shepherd is they will do anything the handler tells them no matter how much pain they are in and this is where cops go wrong. Many think as long as the dog is running etc etc hes in great health. This officer should conceder retiring this dog or put him on a drug beat (easier detail) ...

Hmm, this dog is too slow, too fat, and lacks intensity and a lot of drive. They need a real working line dog with true fight drive, that is faster to the bad guy and truely puts up a fight against him. The "helper" or bad guy shows no intensity in his work either and I know a lot of these german showlines, or american lines will back down from a real fight....maybe thats why he isn't challenging the dog?

Although for some strange reason somebody gave you the thumbs down, I couldn't agree with you more. My GSD is from the Netherlands and are from a Police line breeder. When mine is retired I was looking at the Malinois ( Mals) they are high driven but pray driven... have to put one to the decoy stress test to be sure.

As I said in this vid the K9 is up in years and ready to be retired or put on a drug beat detail which is less strenuous.
