I live in a small town in Indiana, where we only have fox squirrels... then you travel north to another town that's full of gray squirrels and black squirrels, but there's not a fox squirrel in sight. XD

I used to have a baby black squirrel named Grunt, he had some sort of sickness, had a seizure, and died, but he was very sweet and cute and loved to be petted and fed nuts :) he was GOR-GE-OUS too :3

@gregoir cool. i only see those gray squirrels here in NJ. i like trying to feed them and once when i accidentally snoozed at the park one came up to me and scratched my face! XD it STOLE my sandwich. there was also another one that was injured and i helped it get better. now it's my cuzin's pet squirrel but legally, it's mine (cuz i found it XD) well thnx for sharing. :)

It was a process of natural selection, black was better camo in dark forests. As the Europeans cut the forest, the oposite occured, more light in the forrest meant natural selection favored gray.

Since the mutation is a dominant gene and black squirrels tend to be more agressive, in a few places (mostly towards the north) they've taken over and become more common than the regular greys.

This squirrel lives in a industrialized highly polluted area and has therefore been coated in soot from factory smokestacks. Actually this poor squirrel is the victim of a toxic oil spill :-( Actually, I don't know where this was filmed, but I do know the squirrels in Vancouver Canada look just like this. There's dozens of them running around in the local parks there. They cook well and taste like chicken with a touch of black licorice.

I used to put out peanut butter sandwiches for the squirrels until the day they decided to pull the sandwiches apart and played with them instead of eating them. I had sticky peanut butter all over the porch and even some on our car that we had to clean up. That was the end of the peanut butter.
