As I say here in my video, your ETS test raters are 3 to 6 individuals(I am more inclined to say that it is 3 from personal experience). Each rater has a check list of criteria to follow when evaluating your speaking.

As I say in the video, they evaluate your grammar and vocabulary , the coherence of your ideas as well as your pronunciation. Some raters are more grammar oriented and some are more idea oriented. Some are also starting to become demanding of accent. The general questions are typical for the first 2 questions. The 15 second time limit means that you need to have a memorized template of answers for a wide variety of questions. I know it is stressful and I live through this with my students.

I got 92 points and 90 points respectively this year. The only problem was speaking and slight mistakes on the integrated writing section. I still don't get it what is the standard for measuring high scores on the speaking section. In addition, most of speaking questions seem to be so general that sometimes I have no idea what to say even if I have no problem in speaking English. Even worse is that 15 seconds preparation time is almost meaningless as it only allows me to take a breath.

Speaking Section for me was talking to an answering machine. Just a beep, 2.5 minutes of speaking time, beep, finished.

Wasn't easy timing my answer. Maybe because I hadn't practised this.

@zaduras Sorry to hear that, I believe I mentioned in my video Test Prep 12 that it's a good idea to have a watch by your side when practicing for the speaking section. I also have found that when I am teaching the speaking section one-to-one on skype, after a week or so, my students start to have a good idea of what is 30 seconds or 60 seconds without looking at their watch.

It is never too late to get back on track! Never! What is 3 years? As you get older it is like 3 days! Just get some good books and practice the simulated tests! The most important thing for you is to forget that three year gap. There are some things we never forget!!!!!!!!

But I come from Puerto Rico, I speak spanish if you wanna learn more about english you can see tv show, movies, read books everything what contain just english. I have to do this exam, even though I have been speaking English my whole life, its the only language I can speak. I have only been to English Speaking Schools - 5 schools, 2 of them being International!! and I still have to do it because I have an International nationality !! and my colleges need it!! They should have common sense to see all this.

My wife who is taking the toefl for the 5th time now appreciates this video, but thats not the purpose of this post. I will be taking legal action against TOEFL and the distributors of this test due to its discriminatory nature and will also be trying to get the story nationalized to investigate the legitimacy of the of this test and its grading procedures.
