I love to play concert music. Especially Ashland Park! It's one of my favorite pieces. It's so fun to play.

Im looking in a book and it has completely different fingerings.. it goes: on left 2nd finger, thumb, on right 1st finger pinkey. I just got the flute for Christmas.. Gotta SHOCK my music teacher cuz I just switched from french horn... CONFUSING!

Could any one tell me why do u need to keep holding the e flat key with right hand ? If I take it off it sounds exacly the same !

I was fiddling with my Mom's old flute today. I learned how to play most of the notes by basing the notes on how they sounded with the piano. Can't you also play A by taking away your right hand, and with your left hand have the thumb, (I'm not sure how to say this accurately, but if you count the keys on the flute down, including the top one that you don't hit,) the second, fourth and fifth?

OMG! I just started playing the flute the other day- I've been teaching myself- and I have already strted to play Ode to Joy, the more advanced version. My dad played all through his schoo years and he said I sound awesome!!! That so inflated my ego... I think I'm more of a trumpet player... Oh, well!!

@HeyItsAni haha the pinky does actually matter. thats what I thought at first too. once you get a good ear for your flute you'll see that you're way out of tune without the pinky. it also helps to have a pretty tone =]

@HeyItsAni It does. A trained professional ear CAN tell the difference. Try it out with you flute teacher to see whether he or she is a true professional.

you are never under any ccircumstances supposed to put vasoline on the headjoint of a flute it will stick to the headjoint and all sorts of dirt and grime will get it stuck in the barrel of the body and damage you flute and also never hold the flute by the embouchure hole you will bend it out of position and it will not play properly

@aaaaman2 exelent post my friend! Just got a flute as a seccond instrument after guitar! (which I care for lovingly and I intend to do the same for my flute! The pushin with thumb over the hole did sound fishy to me! Any other bacic learner advice for flute maintance?? This kinda ruins this guys reputation for me as a online tutor some what. Is he any good or have you got some advice for me as to a better youtube teacher's vids??
