Its sad that there are guitarists around that are just as talented as SRV but we never hear them because the music industry is ruled by 14 year old girls that like the sound of off-key singing thats been corrected with autotune and played over computer generated music. Back in the day, guitarists could play their own lead and rythm and solos while singing on key and in beat with no pitch correction at all. The black eyed peas use autotune and can't play any instruments. Can't dance either.

Don't kid yourself, there was crap music all over the place 35 years ago as well. Most people who buy/ download music aren't musicians or have the attention span to listen to anything more than 4 minutes long. they just want music to dance to or sing along with (if they are pubescent teenagers they want music to get laid too as well). A lot of bands we think were popular back in the day never got any airplay, all the people that knew about them went to gigs
