@hotelmario510 Thanks, that means a lot. hope you get to check out my new channel I started with my brother "TheStringiniBros" funny cartoons will be there Satire Musical and parody
Awesome video! I heard this song many many times on Dr. Demento. Anyone happen to tape the January 21, 1990 show? It contains the one and only broadcast of "Your Morning Feature" by The Country Dodgers (Spike Jones). I taped it and two weeks later accidentally recorded over it. :( 22 years I've been looking for that song!
@shizzlepikle Gee thanx! :) This is rather old and I have put Marvin and his Girl friend remake on pause for now, while I am working on a couple new projects.
You know, I'd love to see you take a crack at this again with the animation software of today. Though I suppose part of its appeal to me is the fact that it uses graphics that I associate with the consoles of my youth. As a child of the 90's, I played the sega a lot, and this fits right in with it. Keep up the good work my friend, you've gained a subscriber today!
@Nastranai You are Right. I would like to do that. The Cyber Girl from this video has undergone a lot of upgrades over the years. I kept Drawing her, modeling her in 3D repeatedly. Not sure if I want to go 3D or Redraw 2D. I tend to lean more toward 2D because I enjoy it more than Rigging a 3D character.
@PsychopathUltimate No. I started believing long ago that doing things in a "Re-inventive" way was my most comfortable way of working. So it would be new art using my modern skills in 2D.....Perhaps some 3D tossed in there as a blend. Lately I have been on a real redraw cel animation kick with my up coming "Dora the Explorer Dies" video, so I'd probably have a lot of redraw, use the latest incarnation of Cyber-G and Marvin, as well as a host of other characters that were in another version.
@Erikjust I like the song too. I have been busy a lot with an original Toon series and a Toon music video that makes fun of Dora the Explorer. I will keep your suggestion in mind. Thanks
@RickMartin7 No but I am, 1978 to be exact. Hahaha. Sigh... "Marvin" was released in 1981. It was a minor hit, reaching number 52 in the British Charts. - This is according to Wikipedia
this video is awesome. Its upsetting though because im 13 and there is this new song called "beggin on your knees" that stole part of this melody. while singing the song, my dad recognized this song and showed me this video! I love this soooo much better than the new song... its sad my generation can't come up with anything new! :(
This is kind of strange, I had a similar experience when I first heard this song except I was a few years older. I didn't realize until recently it was part of the Hitchhiker's Guide series, but the song stands out on its own.
@woohookittys Agreed. It is because of the interpretive nature that radio heard by us, non-biased listeners, that make for my unapologetic creative licence I take to my cartoon representation.
@stringanime You've inspired me to write a story I've been mulling over about my own version of Marvin, the one I cooked up as a kid. It was needing a main character and a plot for the anecdotes and I think it'll work just fine.
@woohookittys I too was inspired by this video. Years after I made this toon, I realized that all I had to do was change the characters' names and my Marvin and cyber girl pretty much turned into my own story. It's already different enough that fans of Hitchhiker hardly recognize it. So changing names is really just snipping the umbilical cord.
@Mattersmasher Thanks. I really was influenced by Amiga even though I had to go to a friend's house to play it. I made a lot of "Fake Game Demos" that I did take to SEGA. However being a teen back then and Technology limits, SEGA said the tech wasn't good enough to do what I wanted. I am thankful for their rejection seeing as it forced me to think outside the Mainstream Gaming Box.
When I first saw this video I didn't even know you didn't know "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" back then, I just thought this was your version on Marvin (and there is many of those). This video is very good even though you weren't professional yet when you made it. (In fact it would not be completely insane if Marvin would really have saved some girl/ female robot in his past).
Marvin the Paranoid Android, someone did good on this animated music video. Very good; by the time Marvin wears out he is several times older than the Universe, due to time-travel opportunities. The depressed robot traveling the Universe in time & space.
@WOWJBEOWULF Thankyou, One day I'd like to make a new version of this video, although it doesn't seem to hold very tight to the Book, the song moved me to make this long before I realized there was a book.
FANTASTIC! I'd like to add to all the probies (newbies). READ WHAT HE WROTE before U start whining about how it's got nothing 2 do with HGTTG.
For something made in 1995 to tribute a song from the 80's that was based upon a Movie/TV series THAT was originally a BBC radio Comedy from 1978(takes breath). Your Animation is wonderful and funny. I also discovered this song through Dr. Demento in the 90's . I was a taper as well & KNOW I still have that first time I heard it somewhere around here!!!
@fascistbullygirl13 Thank you. I have taken the Cyber Girl Character from my adaptation and developed her over the years. I believe the inspiration of the Marvin song was a conduit for this girl character to come to me. Up until this animation, I had only made funny and Herculean type characters battling and joking. After years of development, she is quite different and you can see her at the end of my demo reel on my site. stringanime DOT c o m
@stringanime I'll just cut down on what I was gonna say since something was causing an error. Douglas Adams had a great sense of Humor. I agree with a previous post. Had he seen this, he would had enjoyed it. Honest and Truly. The whole (it doesn't look like Marvin thing) wouldn't mattered at all. Cary On My Wayward Son!
A sad, yet so amazing song. Love this little cartoon of yours, as it shows a different view of that song not related to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". This little clip really touched me and I thank you for that. :')
@Lubiniki Thank you. It was never about the Book, it was about the song. Having no knowledge of the Book, I made this animation when I was 17. It is a fulfillment of a request made by my younger self; I had written a letter to my future self at 8 years old, asking me to make Marvin and his Robo-admirer come to life. Since then, I have gone on to other things in the Animation industry (Mtv) but as you can see in my demo real, I took "her" with me.
@TheArtistOfKuroo So true. Back when I first heard the song in 1986, I had no idea what the Hitchhiker's Guide was. This is the Vision of a young boy (me) based purely on the Song's merits.
What a delightful past-blast. Good to see good old Animator Pro get its due. It was a damned good prog and STILL has its uses in my odd toolbox.
Your mention of Deluxe [Paint] Animator also brings back memories. The small studio I was working for produced backgrounds for Electronic Arts' "Star Trek: Judgement Rites" game...the EA guys used DPA for the characters. And the venerable old shareware program "Graphic Workshop" to convert graphic files. Lots of fun, and nary a window in sight!
I knew it! The program family I was using, was in relationship to the gaming industry I was fascinated with as a child. I had a friend who's Mom was dating a Guy some 20 years older than me and had all the DOS programs I was searching for. I don't believe in chances, I was looking and the stuff I needed to express myself along side SEGA and EA in the 80's was given to me. I made a lot of game prototypes that demoed what I felt were the games that should be made. Now with flash I can even program
I love it. its a good song and grate animation even if its 2D I love that vintage look I hope to go to school for animation in the next year or two I know its all 3D now but I hope to specialize in 2D and stop motion I think they look so classic and seem more hand crafted than the smooth generic computer stuff thats coming out now. Good job 5/5 :D
It's a bit odd to see a different version of Marvin other than the one from the BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, but the design is adorable, and the girl is nothing short of gorgeous.
The song is beautiful, and the style of this cartoon accentuates the offbeat awesome that is this.
Thankyou, this was made a while back, and many 3D and other 2D remake versions were started and canned due to the speedy developing CGI world. I finally broke down and decided to put off recreating this Music video and just show it in it's Frozen-in-time state. Perhaps it's for the best.
Dude, this brings back fond memories! I remember seeing this video for the first time in 2000. You taught my first computer animation class, intro to animation at Moraine Valley College. I learned a lot about 3DS Max from you and 3D principals in general. I remember you showed us this video and I loved it, kept singing the song for years after. It's about time you posted it, I've been looking for it for a while! Thanks =D
I have literally hundreds of these old CGI animations starting from 1988 to preset, spanning across 6 machines. When Sega Genesis came out, I was animating and learning right along with Sega. When Donkey Kong Country and Starfox came out I was creating my own pre-rendered 3D adventures right along side of Nintendo. The Tech has evolved so much and so often, I think I have dozens of Animations representing each stage of gaming CGI development.
Yeah, animator Pro is a nice program, really exercises the core essentials of animation well, Transform, Poly morphic Tweening, and union skin. I never heard of Topas VGA, how advanced is it?...My very first Animation program was "DELUXE Animator." Those were the days when one person could master every aspect of a software package.
such a sad story but unfortunately its how we live our lives i know i have moments like this in my memories that every now and again i visit and remember what it is i lost and try not to repeat what i did to lose it
To be honest, I don't care if this has nothing to do with the Hitchhiker's Guide series. It's really good.
Besides, it could still be compatible, what with the vast size of the WSOGMM.
