It sounds like maybe she mixed a bit of 'Lullaby of Birdland' into this. She once said in an interview that her own music was a 'reflection of what i'm listening to' or something to that effect. There's a passage in here where her vocal melody sounds like it's practically straight out of lullaby of birdland.... and the song is about a bird... It makes sense because October Song is about a pet bird of hers that flew away. I love how she says "i sang a lullaby of birdland every night" (after her bird flew away) and then you can hear it in the chorus. Lyrically and musically, i think its genius, not poor at all. One of my favorite songs of hers.

If you listen to her lyrics, you will understand why she purposely imbedded a verse to the melody of "Lullaby in Birdland." It's brilliant, and here any fool can see that she's brilliant. I have not been inspired as much by an artist in I don't know how long, and I lament her present descent into addiction; she's lost her high range and is often sloppy as hell in her performances. This is flawless...I adore her.
