  • i have a question.....where would you get some thermal compound?

  • Can you swap out a processor core with a different model? I'm currently running a Intel Pentium D 830 processor and I need an Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 processor, would one of the latter work on a computer designed to use the D 830?

  • @PsychopathUltimate google your motherboard model and see if it will support the desired socket for the cpu you wish to use

  • RBS FTW!

  • To the Poster, there is critical information you did not mention. What are the specs of the old CPU as far as speed GHZ, 440Mhz Bus system and 512 mb Cache (cachability) and what are the specs of the new CPU ??? we know that you do not just plug in any CPU, the motherboard will only accept a certain CPUs, Intel and AMD are not interchangeable.

  • werid i have the same computer

  • Got any jiblets for me yack mate?

  • then you have to install the drivers for it?

  • could i install pentinum 4 on my intel celeron??????

  • @wyten If you Earth yourself, you'll be alright. Suppose its an extra precaution not to touch the pins. :)

  • Dude, never touch your CPU Pins. They'll bend, and you could shock something, because you aren't wearing any anti-static material.

  • What do i need to play games like Crysis 2? My PC is crap, it has an Intel Pentium 4 Processor, and a GeForce 9400GT Video Graphics card. Crap.

    Help me please?

  • well if you tryed to play the game and it dont have good graphics tray a new Graphics card my old gateway has a Pentium 4 processor and it works great on games but it dos not play some of the 3d stuff that good

my newer computer has a amd 64 althon processor and 2GB of ram and 400 GB hard drive and a Geforce 9800 gtx Graphics card and it plays games real good and it plays 3d games good

you should download 3d via player its a free soft ware that lets you play 3d games

  • dont spread the paste! creates air bubbles!

  • I have an AMD Phenom Quad Core 9500 2.2GHz and I want to replace it for an AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2GHz Black Edition. Will the Black Edition fit?

  • I need to know if Intel Pentium E6700 Wolfdale 3.2GHz CPU Socket Type LGA 775 will fit in my compaq 5102f here is the socket info.

    Socket type: 775

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:

    •Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale-M)

    •Core 2 Duo E4x00 (Conroe)

    •Pentium E2xxx series (Conroe)

•Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 series (Conroe)

    •Celeron 4xx series (Conroe)

  • So you just put in a new CPU and that's it? No driver or anything?

  • fuck it i'll just take this shit to fry's and have them do it.

  • what happens if you move a few ''spiky things'' that are under the cpu

  • @justasas1 Jesus will cry.

  • i have one question. what happens when you upgrade a processor of 800mt/s to a processor of 1033 or higher? cause i have a 4 year old processor(intel pentium d 915) and would like to upgrade to a better one. if i had the money, I would upgrade to a new mobo, but i don't, So what are my options?

  • What is the best procesor for my old asus motherboard amd 770?

  • ...and next we need to put about a teaspoon of peanut butter on the motherboard (I recommend skippy, it works the best) and make sure to spread it evenly. This helps the electrons distribute evenly.

  • @FlyGuy0120 ahhhhahahahahahahahaha!! roflmfao

  • my computer was overheating "i think" when i played flight sim x and then sometimes i woudl hear a loud alarm beep noise coming from comp. i wonder wtf that means

  • @Drew927 sounds like it WAS overheating. check to to see if your mobo fan is properly connected/powered and is working. Also, could try installing a second/better fan(assuming you're using a desktop, NOT a laptop/notebook.).

  • Also since the guy directly touched the top of the processor with his bare finger, it should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol so the thermal compound does its job properly, also the bottom of the heat sink should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol

  • You would be wise to wear a wrist strap that grounds you, otherwise little amounts of static electricity that you can't even feel can damage the circuitry, especially if you are directly touching the contacts

  • why do you need that sticky thing?

  • @Kumansa21 That sticky goo help transfer all the heat from the CPU chip away from it into the big heat sink, without it your CPU chip will get way too hot

  • @flamegrilled123 well?

  • its easier if u turn the computer on its side so the motherboard is facing the floor but thats just my opinion also if u get any resistance while putting the new processor in u should stop because u will bend the pins (they arent hard to unbend but its easier if u dont bend them). Lastly, you cannot replace an old intel proccesor with an amd proccesor because they are not compatible

  • dont know alot of PC's but if i get a new motherboard from 2010 its possible to add a i7 processor?

  • Omfg I was doing this with my computer

And I almost totally fucked it up. LOL!!!! GOD I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!!! XD

  • I have a question.I have a AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 4600+.Can I replace it with a quad core or atleast a triple core?

  • do you really need to put that much thermal compound on? I've read in other places that only an amount the size of a small pea will do.

  • dosn't seem wery hard :)

    lucky for me

  • my old dell comp is running off pentium 4 and has like 512 mb ram, is that upgradeable? i havent opened it up yet and i know all the parts in a computer and how they work but have never attempted to put or remove parts from a computer, what processors would work with that motherboard, i bought it in like 2001

  • @UGonnaEatUrtots

sometimes it is best in price and for performance to just upgrade the whole computer. Sometimes if you have an old motherboard it cannot support alot of RAM or faster processors. If you are just an everyday user, and not a gamer (im guessing from your computer specs your not) then you can get a very good computer for your needs at about $350-$500

Check Tigerdirect it has great prices

  • @xLittleVinnie yeah the motherboard would probubly bottleneck everything

  • @xaveiscool

Every video I have seen today there have been people complaining about how they remove and install the cpu... Can't someone who knows they are doing right do a video???!?!?!?

  • Comment removed

  • lol ur gonna screw over ur computer some day cus u forgot to ground urself and fry ur cpu!

  • You need to check which type of cpu does the motherboard supports

  • I have a dell dimensions just like that my only question is do you have to do any bios change or something or is it plug and play?

  • can i upgrade a 2004 celleron D to a core2? my computer is built the same as yours!

  • i recently upgraded from P4 2.40 to 2.8 but it turns off after 30 sec. the processor is stable in BIOS at 84 C but as soon as it starts loading windows it turns off. please help

  • Hi i was wondering if a pentium 4 can be replaced with a dual core processor, here are the specs

    3.4GHZ Pentium 4 processor

    ASUS motherboard from 2005.

was just wondering if any dual cores use an old socket.

  • Can i put a pentium 4-> 2.0Ghz in a pentium 3-> 1.2 Ghz motherboard?

  • @Zerava104 Nope, they both have different sockets.

  • i got a question.,.,.,.,.can i replace my amd cpu with an intel?

  • nope

  • @nerdishtech Oh, Well I Have a Intel Processer, And I Wondered If I Could Replace the 32bit with a Amd Athlon 64 bit 512kb Cache, but it's 2.00Ghz, instead of a 2.66Ghz.

  • @SMIDJID204 if you buy a new motherboard with a compatible socket type, then yes

  • when you change a cpu, do you get different bios, eg if you had a amd 2650e and then changed it to the 3600+, will the bios information change, will the computer notice any sort of change when you log on?

  • the bios will be the same, but if you had a 2650e logo in the bios it changes to the 3600+

  • DO NOT touch the processor's pin or hold it by the pin!

Damage it or make it last! You could of bent any or one of them!

  • i have bent many pins on CPUs and bent them back, they are tougher than you give them credit for

  • Shroud? Heatsink? My sink only has water in it.

  • hi. i installed a new processor and i got xp and 7.

xp will not load up now. any help?

    old:

    amd athlon 64 2650e

    new:

    amd Athlon 64 x2 3600+

  • Is that as dell 2400?

  • you'd be a dumb ass to allow GeekSquad to touch your computer... they dont have a clue what they're doing.

  • @xx2343 agreed, i learned that the hard way

  • could you apply the thermal stuff before you put on?

  • @TheWolfstien i tihkn you COULD, but it would make it harder to put the processor in.

  • hey i have a question if i install another processor i will keep my games and other stuff ive haved before i will install the new processor

  • lol perhaps you shouldn't touch your computer because you obviously dont know a damn thing about em.

  • you sound young but you have a fucking beard wtf

  • Can't a man be hairy? You jealous 'cos he's got manly hair?

  • he doesn't sound man he sounds teenager =3

  • Comment removed

  • dude you do not need that much thermal...

  • hey when installing a new motherboard and cpu processor do u need to reboot windows again or is it just plug and play??

  • i need to know this too -- do we need to re format or reinstall our os's --------- well do you punk lol

  • Do you have to make any changes in BIOS?

  • hi mate nice vid,i am ugrading from 2.13 to quad core q6700 2.6, could you tell me about downloading the bios or if i will get a cd with my new processor that does it for me,cheers,

  • can u upgrade the processor on a laptop?

  • I have a WAY diffrent setup that what you have there.. mines screwed down to the motherboard. im not sure if i need the heat sink or not

  • what is that stuff your aplying to the chip? is that like a glue or something?

  • Its Thermal Paste, you need to apply it to the top of the processor before installing the Heat Sink .

  • when doing that is there anyway you can really mess up? I know applying to much can cause it to run over the edges. But besides that does to little hurt the processor?

  • So nice to hear an english voice talking about a computer in an easy to understand way!

  • does anyone know if a store like bestbuy would install one for you?

  • Yes, GeekSquad will install the Processor.

  • for an arma and a leg -- pls do it yourself they always fuq it up

  • noobs^^

  • i want to upgrade my processer in my desktop but i dont know what is a good processers and if it matters on the pc,

  • Thats cool dude nice tutorial I have a model like yours and it was a bit dumb but i could'nt actually locate the heatsink(maybe I did'nt know what it looked like) so by looking on your tutorial i can actually achieved what i wanted to do so thanks matey ; )

  • can you put a 1066MHz FSB processor into a 800MHz motherboard? The 1066 processor is a intel pentium extreme edition 965 and the old one is a intel pentium 4 540(800MHz)

will this be ok to do?

if so, does that mean the 965 would not go up to 3.8Ghz?

    please respond

    thanks in advance

  • i get a black screen after doing this what is the problem?????????????? nothing works !!!!!!!!

  • does it matter what kind of processor you buy? amd's are a lot cheaper than intels and you get a much faster one.

  • Yes it does, you have to match your motherboard.

The variables are Front Bus Speed, Make and Socket.

If you have an intel you cant put a AMD, but also, you cant put all intel processors in, you have to chose one with the right socket and font bus speed.

  • hay i need sum help i got 3600+ for mine and im geting a new comp with 2100 will that make a big difference for games on steam like CSS,L4D,TF2??

  • thx for this , helps a lot !

  • this would help a bunch if I didnt have a laptop! :( But I have to say this is a good tutorial for anyone changing theres. I want to make a computer company with external drivers, graphics cards, and prossecors, but I cant do that all by myself and without getting in debt, along with the fact that Im 13...

  • Excuse me, once again I have a question, is there any sort of installing of software i will need to do/ will be doing? or do i just slip on the chip , slip on the thermal paste, slip on heat sink, and turn my comp back on?

do i have to configure my comp for a dual core? if so how do i do that? I currently have an AMD athlon 3200+ 64 bit and i would like to upgrade to a AMD Athlon x2 6000. I have the correct AM2 slot also.

  • Great video, very informative, no steps skipped! although i do have a question, should you be re-using the old heat sink, is that ok even if you upgraded to a better processor?

  • Hi, thanks!

I used the old one due to the fact the processor was only .2GHz faster and had a slightly better L2 cache, so its not going to generate anymore heat than the old one.

If you were to upgrade to a much faster processor i would recommend a new heat-sink and possibly fan.

    thanks :)

  • When you were spreading the heat compound, what were you using to spread it? Anyway, very helpful video. Thanks for the upload.

  • I was using an old loyalty card from a store.

    Thanks :)

  • Good tutorial, but you got to put a anti static wrist band on it can fuck up your processer

  • would rubber gloves work, too?

  • no, to be safe it is advised to wear a anti satic wrist band because static electricity can fuck your pc components up inclusing the processer

  • all you have to do is work on a non carpeted area TOUCH THE METAL PART OF THE CASE then you do whatever it's really simple don't worry

  • i gt intel celeron d, plz help me i want to know were to get a intel dual core or an intel pentium, plz tell me the site and the minium price for it, thx!

  • hi, I have got a :

    Intel Core 2 Duo E4400

    speed 2000 MHz (2,0 ghz)

    can I built a :

    Processor - 1 x Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 / 3.16 GHz ( 1333 MHz ) - LGA775 Socket - L2 6 MB - box

    instead of it????

  • can you use a used proseser or do have to bye new if you whant to replace ????

    Get Bak to me !!!

  • You can used a Second Hand one, i bought this one im fitting here on eBay used.

  • good nice and simple,

but what happens if you have a fan ontop of the heat sink?

    is that basically the same

  • Just the the fan off the top, and then its the same from there.

  • ummm i hate to be a bother but what processor did you have befor and what one did you replace it with?

  • Before was a Intel Celeron 2.8MHz (128k L2 Cache)

    After was a Intel P4 2.5 (512 L2)

  • how to remove that metal casing 0:30 ?

  • Hey, does this work for laptops to??????
