Plus wtf does this guy know? I can't stand when a non-writer tries to teach a subject. If he know what he was talking about he would have had at least 1 screenplay sold or optioned under his belt. @circadiesproject For one he has worked on quite a few screenplays,as well as filming itself. Granted he didn't go farther than that yet, but he's got great plans inhis future. Also, if you don't like what he has to say, don't watch it. No one's making you.

I hate that he states "write what you know." The best advice I heard was "know what you write."

This is the most fantastic and straightforward advice about screenwriting. Trust me on this one, I know what Im talking about, I've been writing plays for many years. The only hitch is that the interviewer is horrendous, but so patient is Dustin, he manages to show no signs of irritation.

Why in God's name are you giving this man a forum? Full Sail University is an overpriced diploma mill that is NOT accredited on a state or national level; their Bachelor and Master's degrees are worthless. Additionally, this Dustin Lee has NO listing on IMDB and it's doubtful he's had ANYTHING to do with the film industry beyond a few PA jobs back in the day. And what's a film school so "prestigious" doing in South Florida? Can you say red flag? But don't take my word for it. Do the research.

What he said about dialogue and action is interesting. Namely, that more dialogue than action is a red flag. I've heard numerous times that readers hate to read the description and that good dialogue typically wins them over. However, I agree that your dialogue shouldn't simply tell the story.
