  • Can we just give it a rest? Here are the facts as I see them: Britain could not have won the war alone. However, they would not have lost after the Battle of Britain, after which Hitler lacked the air superiority to invade and the war started to turn in their favour in Africa. The US proved to be the needed backup to allow the Allies to break out on the Western front. But in the end, the war was won by Hitler's insanity in betraying the vast Russian military, who overwhelmed thin German forces.

  • Which one is that at 3:26

  • Long Live the Rifles !

    Best Army Regiments.

  • I wish i lived in those times, things were so simpler then. Just Glory, Honor, loyalty to the crown and a world to conquer!

Nowadays Britain is too "multicultural" our own nation is being raped for everything it's worth by foreigners from Eastern Europe, South Asia and the rest.

  • @wank0r You forget to mention how many of those foreigners fought for your freedom in the world wars.

  • I do have to say this... Ireland for the IRISH!! I am part British so, much like the character, Patrick Harper, I support England, but my heart is in Ireland. :)

  • wait woot.... GAME OF THRONES!!!!! Brace yourself winters comming!

  • sean bean is a very under-rated actor which is a shame cos i think he's great :)

  • When i'm playing mm russia in a line battle, the people in my reg play this song over teamspeak.

  • As Seen on Ponychan.......what the fuck am I reading?

  • proud to be British :)

  • If only I wasn't American and full of emnity of this song! Ack! Must. . . resist. . . patriotism. . .

  • @PenguinInc why ??

  • @eunoway Actually, nobody really knows about this song, I was just making a joke. . . Also, if Sharpe was born any earlier he would totally be trying to mess up our revolution.

  • Makes an Englishman proud and proud of the Scots, Welsh and Irish too. How on earth should the UK or Eire consider itself 'European' we of these battered isles have suffered and still do from the continentals we should stand back to back against not for such as the lousy EU and euro, together and we'll win.

  • He would of made a great Bond. A right proper bastard in the Sean Connrey tradition

  • @mpetersen6 He was a Bond nemesis.

  • i hate france and belgium with a passion

  • The British were once the champions of the western world, just as the Americans were most recently. If the Americans fail, who will inherit this title?

  • @UNfootsoldier Australia

  • @UNfootsoldier Britain and the Commonwealth, the Americans always go in all guns blazing but its Britain and co that always have to step in and clear up their mess.

  • @uafchris Britain was losing WW1 and WW2 before America came in and saved its sorry butt.

  • @AwesomeCaleb1996 No, Britain and France had already pretty much won WW1 , American only had a comparatively minor (and ineffective) role in the last days of the war where their incompetent army had to be saved by the French in the Meuse Argonne. In WW2 the British had already destroyed the Germans at El Alamein (as had the Russians at Stalingrad) before the Americans bothered to send any troops. Do they actually teach history in America, or do they just make it up?

  • @uafchris I can't argue with you about WW1. In WW2 we stormed Normandy breached the Siegfried line, cleared the way to Berlin for the Russians and won the war and don't forget we had our hands full in the Pacific. Man why can't you just leave America alone and thank the 135,576 Americans who died for your country, not to mention there family's and the men who survived. We worked together to defeat a common enemy, why can't we just enjoy our freedom instead of badmouthing dead men.

  • @AwesomeCaleb1996 I agree, except 1. You started it 2. You and other Americans who rant on with that bullshit theory the "US saved Britain" insult the memory of the 1.4 million British who gave their lives to save their country when the US was just sat around. They go around acting like its some given fact to brag about, its just fucking disgraceful. Why can Americans never acknowledged the millions of British who died to save America in both WWs? They act like they won it single handed.

  • @uafchris Look, Americans are proud of there heritage, and we don't like it when someone degrades our country. I respect Britain and I am proud of my British roots but I'm also proud to be American and proud of the fact that we had a part in defeating the massive evil of Hitler and Nazi Germany. The US did not just sit around, it's a big deal to start a war and it takes time to make a decision that will cost thousands of lives.

  • @AwesomeCaleb1996 I don't like getting stuck into petty nationalist arguments on youtube, but I think it's worth pointing out at Hitler declared war on the United States. There was a lot of isolationist sentiment in the US at the time, it's doubtful the US would have properly entered the European conflict if Nazi Germany hadn't declared war first.

  • @Karateworm well Germany was allied to Japan, and as such were obliged to declare war upon whom ever her ally declares war. So yes the US was pretty much bound to fight in Europe when the Japs declared the US an enemy

  • @uafchris look up "Made in America" by Toby Keith

  • @uafchris agreed the germnas were effectively beaten after el alamein and stalingrad, they had no resources and the only real use of the US was providing logistics for the normandy campaign, they should however be thanked for that fairly major though defo not leading role

  • @UNfootsoldier I'm sure someone will turn up...

  • @UNfootsoldier It was first the Greeks and then the Romans....

  • Celer et Audax.

  • If i should fall to rise no more, as many comrades did before then ask the pipes and drums to play over the hills and far away.

  • I morris dance to this song... we at Headcorn Morris do a dance based on the ships guns to this song.

  • Christ, some people here have a warped view of the world. It was a desperate time where a tiny elite ruled over a nation of desperate people on the very edge of survival. The British army was made up of criminals, murderers and wretches who had no choice... sent off to pillage and destroy to enrich the hereditary upper crust.

The loss of national culture and pride we have today deeply saddens me, but to wish one was born in that era is totally and utterly mad.

  • @Karateworm Well said, in one respect. In all others, totally wrong. These desperate peolple on the edge of survival changed not only their own country, but also the fate of the world. Perhaps we would be better off if we did what too many countries do now and beg for aid? 'We want to change but it's hard, we need money!' It was the very criminals, murdererd and wretches you seem to despise that made our nation. Perhaps we should have taken your way and begged Napoleon.

  • @Scatty711uk That's a debate for a different time... and I do have an active interest in the British empire and there's some pleasure to be said in knowing that men from where I live and walked my streets ruled the world!

I just find people who have this weird concept of the 1800s being a wonderful party compared to now, totally and utterly deluded.

  • am from Scotland and am happy just seeing UK Scotland,England,Wales,Northern Ireland. Look at what we have achieved together!!! We have come along way together.

  • @bevylawd well said sir :)

  • @bevylawd I agree totally and utterly. It does fill me with a certain sense of pride seeing this clip. I always say to foreign freinds that British isnt stereotypicaly English as people thing but Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish as well. But look at what Scottish MPs are doing calling for a referendum on independense. Wouldnt it be better of we stay together, united? Nothing is to be gained bySscotland leaving the UK where they have more rights in their goverement than American states do.

  • @TheWorldStrider agree mate, not sure scotland has thought is through propably, its probably a bluff to get more out of the treasery. even though they get far more per head than the english. (no tuition fees, free prescriptions, free nursing home care, free NHS parking to name a few)

  • @TheWorldStrider I'm Scottish and I'm proud to be British as well (the quiet majority of us are) but it also annoys us when people overlook us and only think of Britain as English like you said.

  • @bevylawd I respect a persons desire to be independent but surley it must be better to stand together united against the world than divided and weakened in these economic depressed times? We have been united for centuries now. Why turn that on its head? Whats to be acheived?

  • @bevylawd Don't forget the rest of Ireland - a massive portion of the British army were Irish.

  • British army, clue is in those two words .Scots welsh,Irish,English god bless them and protect them all.........because our Parliament wont

  • @bevylawd that is true, i don't mean to be preaching out-of-date nationalism but that is one of the reasons why the UK should stay just that united

  • @bevylawd top words pal, love to all you brave Scots from an Englishman.

  • @bevylawd Certainly have, much more than what we've all done apart.

  • @bevylawd Yup let's hope Scotland decides to remain a part of the UK.

  • @bevylawd u r talking bolux butt

  • Good actor, it's just too bad the Sharpe series is heavily laden with British slander

  • I was so sad when Daniel Hagman Died :(

  • was this shown in the usa?

  • its very beautiful to kill something and recolect...dont think that sharp feels that way...he does and is told...in execute a different thing:)

  • @wank0r Aye. A time when we could actually be proud of our country and who we are.

  • @wank0r I dunno what history book you've been reading, but you need to get a better one. Plenty of non-whites living in the UK back then, lots of Muslim soldiers in the Empire, and nobody on benefits, just families living six to a room and dying of dysentery, and crippled beggars on every street corner.

  • Sean Bean - One of the most talented actors on Planet Earth - thumbs up if you agree

  • Best beane:)

  • @heroforages i've only seen one episode of this series but in every other movie Bean is the bad guy.

  • @CallousD true, In the Lord of The Rings, 007 and National Treasure. Yet in Game of Thrones he's a good guy but nontheless he's good at every character. :)

  • @heroforages Great actor when he's not beating up his wife

  • @heroforages do you not mean on middle earth ...... ?

  • @Jackiefishhhhhh no because he is a great actor in every film not only lord of the rings :P

  • @heroforages I like him as well. But has ever gotten any BAFTA attention let alone Oscar attention?

  • @scholl1943 He doesn't like any of that stuff. He tends to stay away from award ceremonies etc. To him it's just a job.

  • @TheMalsheemDevil George C. Scott thought the same way but he still got oscar attention.

  • Tamo daleko, daleko od mora !!

  • or the modernized American version

o'er the hills o'er the main

    through France Vietnam Afghanistan

The President commands and we obey

over the hill and far away

  • Excellent books, excellent shows and now an excellent vid. Well done, lad! here's your 40 shillings...

  • awesome tune

  • I'm almost sure it's river Main they mention in song. Just been wondering over no Caps.

  • @Kershtarel

"Main" can also mean "ocean", like "the Spanish Main" (the Caribbean Sea).

  • @Kershtarel No. "The main" is, in this context, the ocean, or sea.

  • heres 40 shillins on the drum

4 those who volunteer to come

enlist and fight the foe today

over the hills and far away.

oer the hills and oer the main

    through flanders portigal and spain

King George commands and we obey

over the hills and far away.

  • Dont Know why you are talking about Normans and Saxons. This is late 1700's. Early 1800's. lovely song

  • Countries, cultures, indians, nazis, jews, asians... They are all nothing. Humans want to be united with something, feel superior over something else.

In the end we are all humans living on the same planet, you can switch groups (countries) and views (culture) as much as you want, or claim that another group is less than your group... But in the end we are all the same. ;)

All politicians want to see you proud of your group, gives them more power you see ;-)

  • An excellent theme song for an excellent show.

As to British Nationalism, I don't suppose, as a Yankee, that I'm qualified to comment. I fail to see the problem with 'mass immigration,' though. As I recall Britain has had a few of those in the past. First the Romans came over, then the Anglo-Saxons, and then the Normans. Or is it different, since those people were white Europeans? Dressing up racism as nationalism doesn't change anything.

  • @ProletarianRage Anglo-Saxons gave name to England, thus being the Native Englisc.

The Normans were of Viking descent (Scandinavia peninsula, aswell as the Danes, Vikings and germanic people who help make up the Anglo-Saxons) although living in Normandy France, however were very similar to Anglo- Saxons in appearence.

So...The English despite the different names, Normans, Danes, Germanics, Norse.. are pretty much a-like people. No different.

  • @MisterMWest The Angles gave England its name, and they and the Saxons gave it its language, but the people are mostly the same as they were since the end of the last Ice Age. Genetic studies confirm this. We are the same "race" as the Irish, Scots and Welsh. The Germanic invasions contributed maybe 10% to the gene pool.

  • @RobertTheBrews Indeed sir! Great information, cheers!

  • @ProletarianRage But as far as being British goes, anyone can associate with being British. I however classify myself being English rather than British as it's an ethnicity and culture specifically.

Speaking against mass immigration and being a nationalist isn't racist.

Liberals would like you to think so, but it isn't.

  • @ProletarianRage I'm sure that the celtic people living in England also didn't like the mass immigration of the Romans.

They also wanted to protect their nation. Would you also call them racists for not wanting the Romans there? They lost their land and their culture, so....

Not the best example on your part. However I do agree that we shouldnt exaggerate today's problem. It is not an invasion and it is possible to live together for later generations. But dont act as if there is no problem.

  • Great series, brilliant song, shit youtube comments.

  • Uninformed morons spewing Nationalism at each other.

Sharpe would be proud, I'm sure.

  • @timeallows Get of this video,filth!

  • What sort of faggot shat is this?

  • @timeallows fuck off cunt

  • @MultiSnakeman "TELL YOUR MOM I SAID HI"

  • @timeallows I don't have a ''Mom'' I have a ''Mum''

  • Comment removed

  • @timeallows Well considering your American we can't expect you to understand. Way to complex for the majority of your country.

  • @keyking2 You must mean the War of 1812? I understand it very well. Cheers and happy 4th of July. So now lets hear about you beat the Germans on your own twice, right.

That's no way to treat family now is it? Well you were correct by one thing, my country. Carry on.

  • @timeallows 4th of July, wrong. The song is not about the 4th of July.

And we didn't beat the Germans on our own, we had China, Russia and Poland(to name a few) to help us. America only came in when it effected them, which was near the end of the war, and didn't do much seeing as they originally intended to trade with the Nazis once they conquered Europe.

  • @keyking2 so its not about the 4th of July then? Oh my I would have never realized, you are a sharp tack. "and didn't do much" Really is that an educated assessment of the US contribution to England during WW2?

  • @keyking2 I remember the Russians and Chinese on D day-and who can forget the Polish on beach head getting slaughtered by the thousands ha ha that is funny. There is another page here that shows an alternate scenario of WW2 outcome if the US had not come to your rescue-quite entertaining-the Neo Nazis think it grand.

Quite the historian you are as well as an ungrateful cunt. Cheerio

  • @timeallows Well when your government has omitted quite a few things from its history I'm not surprised you have such a narrow view.

Ungrateful cunt? Grateful, to America? I'd rather jump of a cliff than be grateful to you egotistical twats. Once you remove your head from your ass you might realize that the world couldn't care less if America disappeared, let alone be grateful to it.

  • @keyking2 If only your Grandfather felt the same. Ignorant cunt.

  • @timeallows One of my Grandfathers was nicknamed Satan's limb so I don't think he'd be missed. And yeah, I'm pretty sure they would feel grateful, if America had done anything besides mop up after the other countries. You did a great job of that by the way.

  • @keyking2 So you are the son of the son of "Satan's limb"?

Well that is special, and here I am with a Grandfather and two Great Uncles that took a pleasure cruise in tanks from the coast of France to Berlin-that was was just "mopping up" though-just like all the American sailors who perished before we interned the war trying to Britain fed and armed-what selfish cunts we were.

  • @timeallows Grandson of "Satan's limb"

Well, if the thought that you did something make you happy your welcome to it.

  • @keyking2 No it is the knowledge of what we did that makes me sick when I see what filthy cunts you English have become-and by English I mean only you. Rot in hell you narcissistic spoiled prick.

  • @timeallows Right back at you. Enjoy your cheese burgers.

  • @keyking2 And you your paki curry chips-fucking ponce.

  • @timeallows Thank you, but I'm not an American. Good day to you sir.

  • @timeallows

1812 , yer that would be the one were be burned the white house and the Capital building to the ground.

  • @assym2006 That would be another war you lost-even after burning down the White House. Epic failure it was. Jolly good-pip pip stiff upper lip swallow your shit and carry on.

  • The reason why we have so many immigrants is because someone misread a law signing thing and not ticking a certain box so they can get in with just a visa in the 60's

  • The first 35 seconds brought a tear to my eyes. ;'-)

  • Sharpe is awesome, i got the box set Sean Bean is amazing actor and guy.

    Nice song to

  • Map upside down. LOL.

  • God we were ROCK HARD....I fukin love England....England 4eva n if ya dont like it FUCK RIGHT OFF

  • Napoleonic War had the best military uniform-ever! From all the armies. Current uniform around the world simply can't be compared to the old good uniform.

  • @vnfangy Lmao , the best dressed guys dont win wars ya ponce.....look at da state of Russian n Tommies uniforms in WW2...but they were muthafukin good soldiers.

  • @XxpauldadudexX I don't talk about how effective an army is. I talked about how good the uniforms look. Of course, the effectiveness is always considered higher than good looks.

  • @vnfangy Sorry , I got ur comment mixed up n thought you were saying the French had best uniforms....you meant all the armies uniforms in them days.....lol...I just watched Sharpe n got all carried away ( over the hills n far awayyyyy ) xP

  • @XxpauldadudexX No big deal, I should have said 17th-19th military uniforms to avoid confusion. And yes, Sharpe is a great show and book series!

  • @vnfangy Nah , looking at ur comment now, you were clear enough .Ugh , My shame ...you said Napoleonic War....I shoulda got it. I just saw an episode were Sharpe nearly died n a priest was a double agent n Sharpes friend was a traitor and WORST this French leautenant was a evil b***** ...sooo lol I need to grow up , but it got me all excited...hahaha I know I sound so sad =P

  • We had great uniforms in the napoleonic wars, great uniforms in world war 1, and great uniforms in world war 2. Now we've changed our military uniforms to fit in with the multicultural and politcally correct agenda. Sharpe and the 95th would be spinning their graves over what has happened to their beloved green coats.

  • @aleceiffel9 That could literally be a parody xD.

  • love all english folk music.

  • It was a turbulent time with the colonies lost and King George III in his affliction. (many believe he was mad but today it is generally accepted that he suffered from Porphyria. The British army, bar the french, was still at that time the most professional army in the world. They took convicts with a history of violence and turned their hatred onto the enemies of England. Again this song was born.

  • THE IRISH RULE, EVERYONE WANTS TO BE IRISH : FACT

  • @ofmuchdeath .No not really ,I used to be a roman catholic, Now I despise religion. I used to admire Nationalism(of whatever silly place) now I'm content to enjoy wherever I live.To be bloody obvious ,life is too short to waste it on such predudice.

  • @ofmuchdeath I don't.

  • @ofmuchdeath

So the Irish keep telling everone?

  • thanks so much for the song, love it in the 90ies when it was on Tv.

  • *Sigh* ahh, for the days when a flag actually meant something more than just a piece of cloth... Regimental Colors were the pride of the company. losing them was about as disgraceful as a samurai losing his sword. and yes, men would blow their own brains out over the subject from time to time rather than face the shame. there were codes to war and breaking them was...well... now days: honor? what's that! National Colors? who cares!? we've replaced honor and national pride for industry and greed.

  • everyone here will hate me but whatever... VIVE LA FRANCE VIVE LE EMPEREUR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They would double time it to Mordor, get rid of the silly little ring and be back in time for the invasion of France!

    All in a single episode.

  • Great song,Alfie Boe sang it at the Festival Of Rememberance saturday night. 12/11/2011.

Shame in this video that the Union Flag is upside down.

  • they were brave back then no matter what there cread and that makes me proud, this is a song of brittish soldiers doing there duty i was one and am still proud i did

  • time for a sharpe marathon wooooo hooooo :D

  • We beat the Spanish Armada, bested Napoleon, and defeated the Germans twice but we have lost our country to political correctness, multiculturalism, and mass immigration. All of the great men of our past are turning in their graves over what has happened to their beloved Britain.

  • @eamesj Your perception of reality is incredibly warped. I'm no fan of mass unskilled immigration, but your little Englander Nationalism is the stuff of pub boars and fools.

  • @eamesj1 I am a mixture of English, Scottish, Irish and Danish and have lived in Germany - and I am DAMN PROUD of all my "nationalities" and cultures, And study our country's history FURTHER than 200 years back (where nationalism REALLY got a hold). Britain has been invaded so many times by Normans, Anglo-Saxons, Romans, Vikings and Celts and all these cultures have intertwined to create what now is regarded as "British".

There is no such thing as a "pure" country

  • Comment removed

  • @eamesj1 'Britons awake, for the old land's sake, And show we are Britons still!'

  • @eamesj1 you won with buying army's to fight for ya, russia won WW2 not brit's we irish beat the brits too many times. SHARP IS AWESOME THOU

  • @eamesj1 Oh shut up - people back then lived menial lives in the service of a tiny hereditary elite who send thousands to their death to enrich them selves. Life for the vast majority of people was bitterly hard and bitterly short.

I too fell a real ache over the loss of "proper" England, if only in a rural sense. I feel something stir when I see the Union Flag and the Redcoats... but at the end of the day, I'd much, much rather live in the supposed "disaster" that Britain is today.

  • @eamesj1 Study history more and whinge less, eames. We'll all be better for it.

  • @eamesj1

you never fight against the germans without a lot of allies if you do you would get kicked ass.

i agree to the rest of your statement. all germanic tribes: the anglo-saxons , the dutch, the danish, the swedisch and the norwegians and of course the germans are going to be extincted by political correctness. so we have to stand together against this multi-culturalism.but people are to stupid to realise that our politicians follow foreign leaders. Dont´believe in the mainstream medias !!!

  • @eamesj1

Haha. considering nearly half of these buggers, in reality, were Irish or Scottish, I doubt it. Read Richard Holmes Redcoats, a good read.

  • @manfred898 I read that recently, cracking book.

  • Comment removed

  • @eamesj1 damn right man its also cuz they left the government in the hands of politics and not warriors like old kings was back then

  • @eamesj1 It's their dream come true, best of times. Great men gave for higher goals, would be proud. Speak, listen, negotiate, offer a hand, console. Fight makes right when obstinance, megalomania, ill-minds at work, some leaders of yore needed to be shut down, it has it's place. Make room on your bench for like minded strangers, clean your weapons together to put away, watch the sun set on sad thinking. Was a crummy time to live. Beat, bested, defeated, lost, turning. Britain's happened hip hip

  • @eamesj1 Never figured out that the mass immigration is a reaction because of your nation's actions in the past? All the colonialism is now turning against Britain. Besides, the earth is of everyone.

  • @eamesj1 well said its awful. what did all those men die for?

  • @eamesj1 it's a different world now brother, those days are long gone.

  • Comment removed

  • @eamesj1 We have to remember to distinguish between some of the great military achievements, and some of the monstrous atrocities soldiers have committed. Britain's strength has always relied on its cooperation with other cultures, something which its unique geography and history allows. Blacks have lived as freemen and even as gentry in England since at least the 1700s, native Jews' expertise on usury post-repeal of the Statute on Jewry gave us a Goliath economy, & colonists died to defend us.

  • @TrenElZombie - patriotism is slightly different from nationalism e.g. the Germans can be rightly proud of Bach & Beethoven, Braun & Hoffman (not to mention Gutenberg), but not of their Super Race policy etc (though they weren't alone in thinking along those lines!).

  • @stones4df - What a relief? Someone talking sense instead of the usual jingoism & bigotry! If you have children I hope you are teaching them the same balanced outlook (I'm a grannie) - no condescension intended. Nationalism inevitably leads to racism & ultimately, war (only arms manufacturers win from that).I hope the United Kingdom does not disintegrate. We have given the world much - jet engine, tv, computers - bugger all invented by the ruling classes. So, working class kids - WORK AT SCHOOL

  • @Insperato62 Hi there i dont think so, nationalism is not an issue but as you said evereything must be balanced and never go to extremes, and just a little thing Tv color was made by a Mexican, thats all, greetings from Mexico and i have 19 just if you wonder i consider my self nationalist i try to make my country better and i respect all countries and people who came to my country to work and help us to be better.

  • Rest in piece those fallen for our nations freedom.

  • WHY ISNT THIS SONG ON ITUNES?!, is there anywhere i can download this?

  • @1991NickC listentoyoutube

you just need the URL for the video and it converts to an audio file

  • 3:56-3:59 So that's the rockets which was used to bombard Copenhagen in 1807...

  • @vanefreja86 Pretty much.

  • @vanefreja86 sharpes prey, read it, Bernard cornwall didnt like it either.

  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up if you, like I, was born 200-ish years too late.

  • @bkapiitan I really think you wouldn't want to live then. Statistically you'd probably die before you were 40....

  • @bkapiitan grammatically, it should be 'were' not 'was'. See, grammar DOES have its uses

  • @bkapiitan Are you mad? Life 200 years ago was short, nasty and was spent serving your social "betters".

Why ever would you want that? :|

  • @bkapiitan

Did you know that England was ruled by the Britons, Normans, Anglo-Saxons, partially the Vikings and Normans in that order?

  • @AResidentoftheCosmos No, I don't know that, because it's inaccurate. The first time you typed 'Normans', it should have been 'Romans'.

  • does anyone know what kind of coat Sharpe is wearing from 0:31 to 0:40 ? would really help me out have been looking for something exactly like that ^^

  • @fightingwithhonor i think it's called a great coat, i think that's what they were named for napoleon's chassures au pied de la guarde la imperial is what i thi
