I heard this on Classic fm and search it for it's particularly good good-ness. No but really this PIECE is amazing and i really think it is one of the top ten PIECES of all time
Sorry but the equally beautiful theme from 'The Glass Mountain' was not this.
May I also say the basis of this music was used as a song tune entitled 'The World Outside'. It's a splendid tune, truly a tribute to the Polish Squadron who fought bravely in the Battle of Britain .
I love this piece, so relaxing. This lovely music is so moving and reading the comments affects people in different ways. I discovered it by chance, and only recently came accross the original 1940s 78 record, I proudly own. Like brief encounter with its film music this is as good if not better for me. Imagine being talented enough to play this on the piano. Hey thanks for uploading it..so beautiful and one of my favourites.
I wouldn't call it relaxing! I absolutely can hear the struggle, the fighting in it. The love theme is beautiful. It gives me the goose bumpers. We ALL love this master piece of music.
This is so beautiful and really has a lot of poignant memories with me. My mom and dad saw the movie before I was born, and dad fell in love with the music so much, it was the only thing he ever taught himself to play. To me it's their theme, and reminds me of all the things they did together and with my brother and I growing up in the 40's and 50's.
This really resonates with me as well, born a war baby, my mom dad saw the movie sometime after I was born, and both fell in love with the theme. It was the only thing he ever managed to learn to play on the piano. Now every time I hear it, I think of them and the short but full lives they both had.
ihad this record in the war loved it its so sad and beautyfulit really tells the stery of the waitigmg and the bombing of war sawit still reminds me of the bombing of london toothank you from dorothy shelleyx mythras90x
This is the most moving music, it is dramatic, makes you feel something of how it really was for those people who suffered so much, at the same time it is romantic and just wonderful to listen too. The Polish have been such a persecuted country and i can understand a little of why they are always so appreciative and a great spirited people.
This is the most moving music, it is dramatic, makes you feel something of how it really was for those people who suffered so much, at the same time it is romantic and just wonderful to listen to
@Valkyriepure yeah but the Poles who came here and joined the RAF were incredibly brave and gave back some hell to the Germans, and the Poles who survived amd who helped the underground like my grandmother never gave in. The Germans were formidable, the sky was "black with aircraft".
@Valkyriepure Respect them all - they got one of history's raw deals. Lech, gotta love him, he bought Poland out of soviet and nazi domination. Viva Polska.
Such a beautiful piece for piano and orcestra. Reminds me of families I knew who lost members who died by Nazi bombs and of those others who lost young men fighting the Nazis. NEVER AGAIN. War, ALL war is detestable. Absolutely.
Concierto Varsovia. Qué hermoso concierto, que yo ya conocía de algunos años atrás. Pero lo que más me llega al alma es que me recuerda a la mujer polaca de la que estuve perdidamente enamorado alguna vez.
The producers of the film asked Rachmaninoff to compose something for the occasion; he declined. He also charged too much for the film to use #2 or #3 or Paganini. So Adinsell was asked to compose some ersatz Rachmaninoff and boy did he succeed! It was then England's darkest hour since the Civil War. All of you out there, now go discover the real thing.
The airplane in the image is the legendary Spitfire.
It is one of the world's most beautiful concert comparable with Rachmaninoff's No. 2 or No. 1 Tchaicovusky, has an incredible majesty, you tick, contemplates the human spirit from all his adventures ...
@ flower7109, me too! I think it is the first music I remember being played on our 78 turntable. The war was still on. Our amplifier was built by a Polish refugee working for an electronic firm in Montreal, out of parts he had "liberated".
The part from about 3:10 to about 3:55 is supposed to be air raid sirens and an attack; I remember that from my piano lessons 40-odd years ago. This is probably one of the greatest pieces of music ever written for a movie; I have always loved it..
Sensational.

The emotion of this builds and builds...until (@7:12) that lone, military trumpet sounds.
If you remember September 1, 1939 and all that followed, there is no way your eyes stay dry.
An absolutely stirring, perfect piece of music.
