@pumpladder868 I once was a christian, then I converted to Buddhism. It is the most understandable religion, and really the only one that makes sense to me. I have been extremely happy ever since I have converted.
Have been studying Buddhism quite a bit in the last year, and every time my understanding grows, I'm absolutely appalled at what many American Sociology textbooks teach children about Buddhism when they are young (middle to high school).
When I was learning about the religions of the world in middle school, they NEVER went into this kind of philosophy when speaking of either Hindu or Buddhist belief systems. I was always taught about these thought systems based on Western assumptions.
@irooni100 Buddha is not god, Buddha means when u attain enlightment, Everyone has potential to be buddha Plz understand do that, it will save ur face when your speaking to people who really know what they are talking about.Siddartha was the first buddha , And more buddha can come as they realize the true reality of the world, By they way check quantam physics to see how the reality you see is not the real reality, And be skeptical that one of buddhas teaching, happy truth seeking irooni
@tsultrimdawanamgyal I am a muslim... when I learn of Buddhism concept and the life of Sukyamuni, I believe that he was a true Man who achieve enlightenment as i had mine. and I can't help accepting his philosophy in relation to Muslim value.
really vague answer to be honest... I don't really understand the whole concept of enlightenment...and why are Buddhist trying to avoid the whole concept of GOD as the creator and the divine being so bad???
@mo133jj It's very simple. Enlightment is the the moment that the Lord Buddha understand the nature of the world. The great truth of the world. Don't forget that God is the "word" created by human. Often, we see the same thing but we call it differently. :)
@mo133jj if u really want to understand and if u r smart rational and diligent then heed me. in buddhist monasteries monks would debate hours end on the concept of God the creator. one monk would sit and try to defend the concept of God and another monk would try to prove the fallacy of his view point. all through sheer logic and contemplation. my point is buddhists don't avoid any concept whatsoever rather tackle them head on. if u can prove to a buddhist the existence of .........continued..
@mo133jj if u can prove to a buddhist the existence of such an almighty being then he will gladly accept it. so next time when u meet a buddhist don't avoid him or her. discuss with him about god and debate with him try to prove to him that god exists. best of luck.
if only more belief systems would preach such profound and very relevant understanding of life and how humanity should try and live our life in order to have more inner peace in our lives & "possibly" achieve enlightenment.
In Sogyals other talks he agrees with u on the "ism". And also some Buddhists who practice Buddhisim do pray, on top of my inner contemplation practices i also pray to certain Bodhisattvas, all depends what level u are on as to what u define pray as?~~~~~?
buddhism, buddhism, buddhism.... I lost count of the number of times he uttered the word "buddhism". Where are those '-ism' come from?
1. there is no buddhism, there are only the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. -Ism implies a certain set of dogmas, Buddha doesn't teach dogmas.
2. Buddhists don't pray, we meditate and seek to understand all earthly matters so that we can deal with them and thus continue the journey toward enlightenment, nirvana!
Buddhists, Pray for long life for their masters, Ask Bodhisattva which ever one you pray to, to bless you and every person in the Six Realms. that may every one be giving the Tools to understand the Buddhas Teaching and that we too become Awaken. & end this Suffering.. haven't we all Suffered Enough in the World ? Isn't it time we Stop thinking about Wealth and Power causing more Suffering that to us. that we work on the Tools that Rinpoche is giving us to end Suffering in us all.
God is an eidolon of mind (citta), hence not real. What is beyond all eidola is where the search begins for ultimate reality beings.

Sogyal Rinpoche is considerd 3th highest Lama he is a very good Lama and he knows what he is talking about

That was complete nonsense. He shouldn't try to describe meditation as prayer. He fell into a trap.

GOD is just a word. What the Buddhists pray to is the REALITY behind the word.
The Spirit-Love-Light-Presence manifested in a Trinity very similar to Christian trinity.
