  • he's stoned

  • great lesson :D

  • "okay so this is how you play airtap;... you make it up as you go along"........brilliant. i can play it perfectly now........ -_-

  • Oh THANKS! now i know hoy play it perfectly!

  • There's no any videos on IViodeosongs :(

    What happened?

  • Eric, people like you inspire me to pratice guitar no matter tiring it is. Nowadays music for the current generation is overpopulated by rap and pop artists without any true skills that you posses! I'm glad that there are still extremly talented guitar players in the 20th century to keep raw talent alive!

  • I've only heard two of your pieces and I love your style of music. I hope to find some of your cds soon!

The one thing I don't understand is when your right hand taps a string on a higher fret, it makes a higher pitched sound--while that part makes sense, I don't understand how you get that fretted sound because when I try this, it just makes the sound of the open string. Are you tapping the actual fret? Are you holding the string against the fret for a split second to make that higher note?

  • @ChronicallyConfused

Those notes are called artificial harmonics. If you look them up there is a great video of TE giving a thorough explanation of what they are and how to play them.

  • Got It! I now know how to do this. This video told me all I needed to know about how to play airtap Lol

  • Can I play after this video the song or some parts of it? I mean do you explain some riffs of the song or do you just play it a bit slower and that's it? I mean this Preview looks like that you are just playing the song and you don't explain it exactly.

  • shitty advert Ya buy it pleaseeee. beg me mooooore i might buy it. relax and focus on playing

  • buy this video, it's increadibly useful if you want to learn laptapping.

  • what tuning is this in? i'd definitely like to improv like this. lol

  • @stevekinney12 FACFCF i believe...

  • can you just shut your mouth and listen to Érik?!

  • ooh jeez it gets worse,

    candyrat extremists now?

reminds me of those stupid arguments that crop up on ultimate-guitar news articles.

  • Haha wow, no he's probably not high, and I can tell when people are high.

  • awesome, Do I smell candy rat in the future?

  • Erik is on candyrat since a while already.

  • No he's not, stupid.

  • better check out the candyrat website first before making stupid comments.

    candyrat . com / artists / ErikMongrain

  • He has his CDs on resale with Candyrat, he isn't signed with them. Check his MySpace for his updated record label signing.

    AlterEgo Musique/Prophase Music

    I win?? I think so.

  • I never said he was signed with them, did I?

    /watch?v=_QyYaPWasos

  • yup

  • everyone goes to candyrat for some reason...

  • @suyangsong Yeah.. I have no idea why...

    Hint: $

  • he has been part of candyrat

  • well, he really is a great guitar player....but is he high in that video ? ;-)

  • Man he is stoned out of his nut!

  • hey, what guitar is that??

  • Como lo hace?? Alguien tiene algun tutorial??

  • great advice.......just make some shit up. lol

  • yeah the tunning is FCFCAF

  • is that from the bottom string (1st-6th) up or top string down(6th-1st)?

  • sorry im retarded is that tuning the strings up to C on the A string or down an octave lol i dont know if im supposed to tune up or down even though it sounds like its kinda tuned higher than standard

  • lol ah dont worry i think i worked it out haha

  • Isnt this guy Canadian eh? You freaking rule man

  • yeah . french canadian i think.

  • he's from Québec in Canada ; )

  • i dont think people would ever be able to learn what you can do on the guitar

  • it's not like he's from another planet.

  • yea you can find tabs out there for his stuff its not impossible, but like anything it takes practice to do it right.

Once ou get comfortable laptapping you can start writing songs like that.

  • No but he sure plays like it.

Sure there's other unreal fingerstylists out there, but Erik has a style none of them have, it's almost like he's primarily influenced by funk. Doss Ross and Antoine DuFour are also two amazing players, along with Tommy Emmanuel.

  • i think he is

  • Erik you look fuckin ripped (high). hahaha

  • Erik, congratulations, your sound is really very wonderful and innovative.

do you make some modification in the guitar to get to play this way? Do donate it adds secret exist in this technique? Do you have plans of I came in Brazil?

  • The tuning is different than standard tuning on a guitar.

  • Salut Eric,

  • Erik Mongrain's inspiration was youtube

  • Wow, and people think your videos are fake.... wtf is wrong with people?

  • Seriously, I love you. lol

  • he play guitar like the late Jef Healey.

    he good erik.like it

  • he plays more like the late michael hedges

  • he plays more like awesome

  • does anyone know if you could play this on an electric guitar

  • eh, if it has strings....and a hallow body to drum on

  • You Rock! i really want to learn that songs.....but im trying to find the basic tabs...

  • i still cant play that song lol :P

  • why cant it be free youtube is the thing that helped you be succesfull why not give back to the youtube community

  • Maybe just maybe.... Because he needs to eat like everybody.... Like I said before (an old comment) he cannot lives with youtube or limewire

  • alright and he plays live at least once a week you know how much fuckin nmoney he gets

  • lollllll funny man.......

Check on his website if you see that he plays at least once a week, just tell me..... Because I know how he is living and how much it's not easy. You can have your opinion... But talk about something you know...

  • Trust me, he can live without youtube. Talent like that isn't dependent on the internet. Let's not forget, he has a record deal now.

  • Nice

  • wonderful as always, Erik. keep doing your own thing.

  • Those Tabs are now available on my website: - The Silent Fool - Fates - Interprétation - Fusions - AirTap! - Géométrie d'une erreur - Mais quand ? Tutorial Videos available on IVideosongs: - AirTap! with tabs - The Silent Fool with tabs - Equilibrium with tabs
  • I think it would have been nice for him to make this video free, to give back to the youtube community which has helped him in his success.

But a mans gotta earn some money i guess.

  • To Jamie ToddPlaysSongs! hey which advantage would have youtube, if this video was free, makes no sense. that´s ok that erik wanna earn some money_ i will buy these videos later...

  • Jamie you are funny.... How a musician can eat with YouTube and Limewire? Could you answer this question? Maybe you are using Limewire....

  • piracy is not the problem, artists dont make any money because record labels take it all. And for your information i dont use any P2P programs, i buy my music from stores.

I understand why he has charged for it and i dont think it is a bad thing, however i know of a few artists that make tabs and instructional videos for thier fans for free to show thier apreciation.

  • Hello Jamie, sorry for my bad English (I'm french). If you buy music, I apologize about what I said before (Limewire), I buy music too. For Erik, the record label doesn't take all the money because he got a distributor not a real Label.

  • And we (managers) forced Erik to sale his tabs and tutorials because he wants to give away everything for free (at that time, he was not able to pay his rent). And to show his apreciation for his fans, he answers to everyone on his forum (not a lot of artists do that everydays). Now, Erik is not rich but he stop to play in the metro and in the streets, thats a good step.

  • I am glad to hear that, personally i think the future is in micro payments. These are small one of payments on non-profit sites, like napster used to be, similar to itunes, but with smaller payments say 10p per song (around 17 cents in europe i think) but with all of the money going to the artist.

  • great piece of music

  • ya good im learning to play fusions

  • i just wanna say that you are the best guitarist ever. you are amazing.

  • I love Airtap! man, one of the best songs i've heard in ages!

  • I'm seeing you play in London on the 26th February! and i cant wait!!! :-D

  • I saw him in Sheffield last night. What a guy. He took time to talk to people and gave a perfect performance despite serious technical problems. Once isn't enough so I'm off to see him again on 27th. Enjoy your night.

  • cool!

  • brilliant

  • On IVideosongs: Laptapping basics Tutorial.

Please note that the Airtap! tutorial is not about how to play the CD or YouTube version . It's purpose is to try and show the -basics- of the technique with Airtap! as an example.

    AirTap! Tabs on my website.
