I saw Cozy Break this record on Halloween of 1986 in Costa Mesa. During FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN! Probably RONDO and AMERICA, as well. He broke his way into my world that night. I wept when I found out that he died. He lives on now in my dvd and cd player..and best of all, in my memories! R.I.P. COZY!!! Jim Myers (long beach, cal).
...and he remembered his sticks!!! If it was when he was recording with Keith Emerson and Greg Lake (as the presenter states) it was 1985, in true Cozy style he did not tell us he was going for this though!
Whenever I see this I will him to do it!!! What a guy!
i heard something about this being the record for the worlds fastest drums but it wasnt lol.... and anyone with some sense of co-ordination and ability to use drum sticks could do this =\
Oh my god I remember this! I must have been about 5 when this was on and I just remember this guy playing loads of drums. Being drum mad even back then this was like some sort of wet dream for me! Had no idea it was Cozy Powell of course and I never thought I'd see it again- fantastic!
EligosPoltergiest, you make an excellent point, many talented drummers from the underground in general are often overlooked and under rated when it comes to naming renown talent. But let's not forget most musicians from the underground such as black metal chose not to attract much mainstream attention anyway. Cozy Powell may not be the worlds fastest drummer but he is still well known for playing in legendary rock bands and a quite talented drummer at that. R.I.P.
Sure, Powell is a fast drummer capable of running around hitting 400 drums in 58 seconds, but not the "worlds fastest drummer". Let me note of a couple brilliant drummers in the metal underground, Kjetil-Vidar Haraldstad of Satyricon and Jan Axel Blomberg of Mayhem: both capable of playing complex drum riffs similar to John Bonham's style at intense speeds besides the warpspeed blast beats signature to black metal .
i like the segway thing at the end "he's a record breaker!" before i die i want to attempt the worlds longest drum solo, the last time i checked the record was over 3 days long.
Love his work with Jeff Beck in '71/'72. But what a dumb way to go - 104mph in bad weather, no seat belt, talking on his mobile phone and over the drink drive limit...

What 2 great characters Cozy and Roy. Sure made me laugh, I was willing Cozy to do this when watching.
Cozy`s sad death is the best advert for not using a mobile phone whilst driving.
God bless them both.

Got my Soundwaves on this clip at 2.48 (rack tom) and 2.51 (floor tom)!
Bought them from Barratts in Manchester, the kit was always on hire to the BBC before I bought them!

I thought he was going to play like 400 measures in under a minute, and I was like NO WAY. Oh well.
