  • Is this something that only vets can do or is this something most horse owners do themselves? I dont have a horse although I'd love one, but people I know that have horses do all their own shots and file the hooves, they do have a farrier come and clip the hooves and put shoes on the horse every so often though.

  • @XxShedevilx15xX Some horseowners float their own horses' teeth but most have a vet do it. For one thing it is hard work, especially if you don't do that type of work regularly. Also, there is a risk of damaging the soft tissues in horse's mouth and the teeth if you don't know what you are doing.

  • @Horsekeeping Thank you for that information. Always learning something =)

  • Does that hurt the horse? If someone tried to file my teeth I'd probably be screaming.

  • @terramar111 a horse's nerves end close to the gumline, so there is no nerve where the tooth is being worked on, and therefore does not feel any toothpain

  • @terramar111 no they should sedate the horse if it hurt they would be putting up a fight

  • Very smart and simple advice.

    Good graphic description.

    Thanks for helping horses.

  • "to tell the age of any horse inspect the lower Jaw of course , the six front teeth the tale will tell and any doubt or fear dispel" ... the whole tooth poem is on my channel or on twomblypublishing 's channel :)
