@3R1CtheRED I think it's the "Ife" tune, it's on the "Big Fun" studio and on "Miles Davis in Concert" live at Philharmonic Hall album both from 1972. Don't expect it to sound the same as this version though...
After playing a concert sometime in the 70s Miles walked offstage and asked a friend "Well, what'd you think?" "Aww Miles, it was amazing" the friend said. "Fantastic. Your paying was THERE, man!"
"No." Miles croaked. "Not the music! How did my clothes look, man?"

man..this group is soooo far gone...tripin out on SOUND.....wasted on SOUND....close your eyes...LISTEN....its not about anything but...SOUND......the groove....the sound...the tight..groove...the trip....this group is wacked out..and IN..
the drugs DO work...damn it. fuck man...miles.... is...., was, and still is where its AT!!!
You can tell in this clip just how much Miles Davis FEELS the music, its so far beyond just hearing the notes for him. Its his ability to feel the music that makes him such a great artist and trumpet player.
Look at his movement @ 5:17 and next sec. guitar player repeats that movement. Incredible! Miles is like Don Juan, a mystic described by Carlos Castaneda.
Watch their conversation from 6:24 on - music is a spiritual language! Now that's one more thing which makes Miles genius, not just playing lovely melodys!
i don't mean this in a negative way at all, but what kind of drugs were miles and the band taking at this time? (is miles on smack or is he just feeling the music?)
He was allways into the music with all aspects of his being, and this video is a perfect example of why he was such a great bend leader. In each moment great leader knows exactly what to do! And If you are listening to the music, you don't have time to thinking about what drugs were Miles on. And that is exactly why he used drugs! To not interfere the thinking of something else with feeling the music.
Great video of Miles improvising with orcestration of his bend during the gig!
Miles had a heroin addiction in the 50's and quit cold turkey and never went back. In the 70's he drank a lot, and there were rumors of lots of coke. According to lots of sources, Miles rarely performed with a buzz...
In my opinion, Miles is high as a kite on coke at this show. I think in the 3rd video from this series he can't get his nose to stop running.. etc. Not that I care, though... good for him!!!
This tune is called "Ife," but every single day they played it it was different, sometimes radically so. They're all on the knife's-edge of concentration... as serious as your life..
Fuck me man! Pete Cosey is THE motherfucking man! Fuck it all this is the baddest shit in this motherfucking universe! Miles is the total master of music. I fucking DIG this shit man!
This is not a song at all. It is performance art. They all look like they dropped some acid too...lol!!! I feel high just watching this. What a treat to see so much of Miles working with his band. Often times he would just get off the stage and watch them work it during this era. Greatest video clip I have ever seen of this man....bravo!!
I have seen some freaks in my time but the spitting, muttering dude in the shades is the BIGGEST FUCKING FREAK EVER!!! This is one of the best things I seen on youtube. Utterly Amazing!
Miles was booed on the first set. I think he was high for the entire second set. No excuse but its Miles he can fart in my general area for all i care! :)
Un jour Dave Liebman a demandé à Miles pourquoi il l'avait recruté dans son groupe. Et Miles lui répondit en souriant: " People like to see your fingers moving fast, Dave "
If anyone knows where I can get CDs or DVDs of this specific band, including this concert, please, please, please, send me al link! I have to get some of this bad, bad shit! Thanks :)
foster is almost as much the leader as Miles, atleast on these parts. Personally, i think Dave really came into his own after this period, but he def sounded pretty good then?
I guess i was 3 years of age when Miles Davis & his much skilled(instrumental) company performed this one. Who also sparked and introduced OUR style of playing today - rather it be soul, rap, rock, etc. Today's music is the offspring of what Miles was saying, or playing back then. 3 years after the death of Jimi Hendrix(who began the so-called rebel music), that outspoken & felt side of a human being began to be understood equivalent through an elder, "Mr. Miles Davis".
you are obviously ill informed. you know nothing about European music. Miles stole the concept from others. have you heard ALL of the Herbie Mann output from the sixties. i can tell you haven't
I wouldn't call this stealing. That's a little harsh. Musicians can be inspired by other musicians. "Borrowing the concept" sounds better.:) Either way, it's a good groove.
A lot of people missed the point of what Miles was trying to do. You really can't put his electric years in a category. Its not Jazz, Fusion, Funk, R&B or whatever. All you can say is that its instrumental. Of course, everybody stole this concept and called it Fusion
That's crazy Dave Liebman, representing as usual. Thanks for posting this, one of the best live jams I've seen Miles direct, at least for this period. Classic.
Genius. My favourite Miles period. Epitome of cool.
