Plug straight into a desk and record that? This dude can really play and the effects are only enhancing that. Without the effects it would sound worse than anything you could possibly imagine (except the 'solo' on Fall Out Boy's cover of this song, obviously).

If a guitar sounds good just because of the effects, than that is not the guitar that I hear, but the effects themselves. Sorry to say, but even the high-class ibanez sound like "plasteel", compared with for example Mayones guitars or anything else, that might not look as "cool" as an Ibanez, but surely have better gear and wood.
