A band doesn't simply become legends from a member killing themselves, Nirvana made amazing music and they were one of the most popular bands even before Kurt died. If Josh Homme died tomorrow, QOTSA wouldn't become legendary. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with them because they're easily one of the greatest bands around and Josh would be missed. But Kurt is a legend for the same reason any other musician is a legend, he made awesome music and the band went out when they were on top.
