basicly when its wet its not reactive but when it drys it gets super reactive. so mix it in water, then set it where u want to use wait for it to dry and ur good.

This is a very dangerous substance. I would not suggest making more than a small amount at a time. The worse part not mentioned by this video. Is when the substance explodes, tiny pieces of iodine shrapnel go flying everywhere. So if you are near, its like getting hit by a fragmentation grenade. This stuff is nothing to play with in quantity. The iodine "bullets" can put an eye out easy.

Yes that might be fun, but it would be impossible, because transporting this stuff is physically impossible. I don't get why they smashed the feather down on it; I've seen it being released by simply letting two feathers fall down on it on their own accord. it's one of the most explosive substances we know of -- that's why we can't use it for anything.

I've made as much NI3 as a few sugar crystals, but, believe me, the explosion was loud enough.

Not an experiment to scale up or to perform without much knowledge of chemistry. (E.g. people who call ammonia "ammonium hydroxide" which it isn't)

1. NEVER make NI3 in a glass container. Not unless you want to spend a few hours in the ER having the shards removed from your eyeballs.

2. 1/4 of a glass of NI3 is a huge amount! This is a very high explosive. 1/4 of a glass would be like setting off a stick of dynamite.

3. Do not assume it is safe while wet.

Take a medium glass and fill it up with ammonium hydroxid (household ammonia) and then pour iodine crystals in it to about 1/4 full of the glass and let it dry. After it have dryed pour the liquid remaining. And there we have it just remember to keep it wet when you are not using this.
