Wow, lots of terrible arguments going on here. It's really too bad. Just enjoy the clip. This story is thoughtful, touching, and negates neither science nor religion. It's about humanity and its search for the truth.
@AlienatedCornea Those are my thoughts on the whole science issue. People will never stop believing what they want to believe. Whether they believe in nothing, a single god, multiple gods, or certain rituals or patterns in life. However the most distinct thing between them all, is until we die none of them can be proven to be the right thing. So the best we can do is silently ignore each others religious beliefs and stop trying to impose them on each others lives.
Even Ellie knows she cannot prove her experience and she knows there is no point in saying "but it's true!" and we know its true because we saw in on our TVs. But the point is that unlike religon where people claim they know what their god is like even if their life dependent on it. How can someone live their life in believing something so absurd about a belief that was created by men with such primitive knowledge. At least in this case there is indirect evidence like the radiowavesandblueprints
@excelx213 why should I prove it? The burden of proving the existence of some omnipotent flying spaghetti monster in the cosmos lies on the shoulders of those who claim it exists. I might as well, following your logic, argue that unicorns exists based on your faulty logic of not being able to prove they don't exist.

Well, her story would be easy to test, send someone else through, lol.
But, as the movie showed, the government KNEW she was telling the truth and they wanted to not let the public know, just like the church KNOWS their god isn't real, but they don't want the public to know. ;)
This is an atheist with faith. Faith is mortality. Everyone has faith, and there are no rules or caveats to it. Faith is a personal question to which every one of us is allowed to make an answer. No shame. None of us are going to burn if our answer is different. This scene shows that science does not compete with faith. They're in utterly different realms. 0:34. Thus begins the dialogue that, to me, best describes someone's belief in God. I am a skeptic though I wish I wasn't. Those that do believe in God, wholeheartedly, undeniably, as Arroway does in her experience, know how lucky you are. I don't question or judge but I am unable to believe and that saddens me.
@manhattan23 what a moving post. I had the same skepticism. I wanted more than "just because". I challenged God, give me facts. Ravi Zacharais is another.(there are more) You don't have to check your brain at the door. Just ask with a sincere heart. Jesus is alive, real, just open the door.
@neurocadence I'm inclined to disagree. I do not think that goat herders living in the desert 3,000 years ago knew more about biology and cosmology than scientists do today. Do not confuse a science fiction movie with something you just read in a terrible book. I know that talking about cosmic background radiation, red shift, the expansion of the Universe and fossil records would fall on def ears, so I'll just say this. Whatever might be the beginning of the Universe, it's catalyst (cont)
@Webzlinger (cont) is probably infinitely more complex and beautiful than whatever superstitious cavemen could invent to fill in the gaps in their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
@manhattan23 This is all very simple you see. God is not like us, does not look like us and never will be seen by us. Yet God is seen at all times by us. We Are God. God is all there is you see. This is why no human being has ever seen God. because God is the Energy stream that is everywhere.
Some of the best minds of our time have looked at these and other find in science and concluded that the laws of science, as we know them at present, contain many fundamental numbers, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the proton and the electron. ... The remarkable fact is that the values of these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted to make possible the development of life.
@ivlfounder That is a presupposition. The whole effect of evolution is for a living organism to adapt to the environment it finds itself in. Taking scientific findings and then misrepresenting them to further your delusional beliefs is wilful ignorance at best, at worst its total dishonesty. Are you a liar or an idiot? Or do you fall in the middle, were you conned by the thieves that run the churches?
@ivlfounder He is not talking about the universe as a whole at that point, he mentions certain aspects of it yes, but when looking at the amount of chaos and destruction that is visible to us and the simple fact that most of the surface of this planet would kill us pretty fast its a little foolish to say it is designed. And when Hawking said it had the appearance of design , he was right, it does in some ways. But he also knows that statement is a biased one. cont...
@ivlfounder We tend to see things and impose the residue of our past experiences on to them, even when what we see has nothing to do with the experience we are using to colour our opinions. Natural forces very easily account for things that, with our bias, look designed.
To Comment on a movie Written by Carl Sagan, the most visionary Genius in a millenium, We need to hav originated from above!! Not possible?? Then stop being egoistic and try to understand!!
This movies sucks and makes no sense. The reaction of the public, the scientific community, and... generic authority figures in the movie is completely unrealistic. "Hey guy's lets put a person in a thing so they can observe what happens but oh wait we don't value her testimony at all." DUMB. Plus, Jodie Foster is annoying and a bad actor. Everything in the movie is unrealistic and stupid. The moral/message is simple minded and dumb. "We are special HUR HUR HUR."
The final part of the this film is what makes sense of the whole movie. This is not about searching for planets, galaxies or far countries. This is all about finding OURSELVES, our true scent. Now, the question I am asking is Why we need to find beings from other planets to define ourselves and our relationship with life force? Ever heard of Soul Travel?
This is one of the most powerful scene I ever saw in a movie. I think I cried the first time I saw it. That is all true, why do we need that stupid god thing, when we have each others ? Our society is very sad... No doubt believers find this movie/scene garbage, they can't see beyond their emotions. If any extraterrestrial society watch us/ look after us, hopefully seeing we can produce/do/think things like this give them hope. We are still an adolescent world.
Why can't you see? Why are you so blind? Don't you get it? YOU'RE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT. You are more important to this universe than any god could ever make you.
You are more important to *us* than you could ever be to any god, because we need you more than any god ever could.
You, your soul... you belong *here*. Please come home.
The funny stuff is that if we discard god and religion , we have proof for other civilization out there ....i mean we are here , from the bilions and bilions of planets out there , do you really think that didnt hapend before?...there are other civilization smart like us , there are other that are milions ahead of us , there are others that are primitives , and there are planets with primitive life . The sad thing is that i cant visit and see them :(.I will probably die without seeing it.
@11marylena : Sorry to butt in... you cannot possibly respect other people's beliefs JUST because they feel real to them. We should respect a person, NOT the ideas if they seem baseless, or just plain stupid.
"All opinions are NOT equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others" - D. Adams
Incidentally, revelations are not a privilege of people of faith. All humans have experienced them, but some have discarded them as delusions.
@bersa888 My comment was open for interpretation because what my comment was intended to point out was that we should respect people regardless of their beliefs(not the belief itself !!) unless there are no morals attached to them. Sorry you interpreted it the wrong and that I left it open for interpretation and also for getting back so late(I was just reviewing my comments and getting back to some now. What you stated is quite obvious. It goes without saying. :)
@onedeadcat First of all, love the username. Really. I think it's cool. :non sarcasm so don't hate on me) Second, let's everyone just enjoy the acting in this movie and sit back and watch what I always believed to be one of the most poignant endings to a movie I've ever seen. Just saying.
The difference between Jodie Foster's belief in her extraterrestrial experience and that of a religious person's religious experience is that one is repeatable and thus can be validated by others. All they need to do is build another contact machine. And another, and another, and continue until there becomes a growing consensus.
to say this movie is anti god is just an attempt to overlook the ambiguousness associated with a movie that can operate on more than one level and please more than one kind of audience.
..notice the letter 'C' in the stones, in her hand.. for Carl..
..too bad this is an anti God movie.. and btw, just because there's tons of space in the universe doesn't mean God doesn't have a reason for it.. .. he has his reasons..and doesn't mean aliens exists..lol.. this is a atheists movie
One of the best sci-fi movies for 60 minutes and then one of the worst disappointments 60 minutes onward...arg! This is the SETI Directors favourite sci-fi movie up to the point where Jodi is bouncing around the beach with her father because some rich guy was able to hide a major complex from the 1,000s of military and domestic satellites.... why, why why
A simple wristwatch would have solved this whooole thing x)
"Oh look it's 18 hours ahead" :B
And I know you can say that the camera could have served as a timing device, but you'd think they'd give her some basic survival stuff in there, I mean she had a flashlight and that compass, why not give her a watch too? Also maybe a swiss knife and a powerbar xD if I ever have go into space, damnit I'm taking some chocolate with me!
There is one story in hindu mythology of a boy who believed in God's existence as superpower than earth's king "hiranyakashyapu" his own father. The father angered makes him prove it which the boy cant. but at end "Narasimha"(half man-half lion) appears from pillars and tares king with nails who happen to have misused his powers, a "boon" from Gods. The boon was that no man nor animal can kill hiranyakashyapu in day or night or with any weapon. Narasimha kills keeping the boon intact at eve.
The point of scene looks to equate experience of a scientist matching that of religious one when someone's claims are rubbished by science world when he/she says to have meet God proving his belief system for him/her but cant do same to the other party. Carl Sagan points to possibility of Gods being nothing but higher beings which might have inhabited earth sometimes back. in hindu scriptures Gods are described similar ways knowing future/past traveling time and able to take any form.
@PropMonkey87 Contact novel written by sagan makes the point that Gods as taught in ancient cultures may be same as described by 'alien' in form of Dad seen by Elly. The alien says that tunnels in spacetime allowing her timetravel to vega are made by some higher intelligent being than Dad/alien. Dad/alien has no idea about it just keeping the space-post at VEGA hoping 'them' to return.
@PropMonkey87 watch?v=Z-5yqI4DLBo for narasimha myth story. The earth king was given boon by gods that he will not be killed by human nor animal, not in day or in night not in home nor out of home not by weapon. the God narasimha kills at eve, in the door and with nails keeping the boon intact. the child is prahlad who is son of earth king but does not finds him God and keeps praying for vishnu the God running the show of universe.
It only took about a minute to explain, but it left our thoughts forever entwined. Even if we never saw her experience what she did we would believe it.
I hated the authors for putting the whole religious theme in there. Frankly, I despise them for trying to play both sides of the field. I understand perfectly what they were trying to say, that science requires faith too and is similar to religious faith but it's not! Even though Jodie Foster was asking them to believe her without evidence, it wasnt a religious type-thing!! Science is still based on observation and proof, religion is based on willful ignorance.
@ShockTherapist007 You shouldn't hate them for it. Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing, or a belief that is not based on proof. In religion, faith is a belief in a transcendent reality (off limits to material measurement and scientific inquiry such as falsifiability and reproducibility). The concept of faith is a broad one.
This part is sooo stupid!!!...How can he judge that this experiment is a fraud base on one time result?....as a scientist, engineer or doctor...they always collect dozens of data to confirm BEFORE you can call it fraud.
I enjoy this film but the problem I have with it is how a god plays any kind of role in explaining her experience. The god explanation for our existence or the existence of life at all isn't in the spirit of Sagan, so for that I was disappointed. It's very entertaining though.
@bluhousworker God simply let her go her own naive way and when she saw that she had no proof about her experience in Vega, she realized what is to be God and not be believed. Director Robert Zemeckis intention with this scene was to prove wrong Sagan's narrow perspective. Don't be dissapointed, atonement was given to those confused, thanks to this scene and to this amazing film.
Except it was an alien in this movie, not a god. She also had evidence in the recording device which recorded hours of static. The movie was Sagans, Zemeckis just put imagery to it. Maybe you have the narrow perspective. Sagan never had a narrow perspective, he valued the mysteries of the universe.
@trekgeek1 She never knew of that evidence and that is irrelevant. I can say that there's physical proof of God's existance with the Turin Shroud, which scientists can't understand how Jesus' image was plasmated into the shroud. The point is that no one should demand physical evidence of anything to prove something real or not. I meant Sagan had a narrow vision of God because he denied His existance and he demanded physical proof, very irrational and naive of him.
Shroud of Turin has been disproved. They dated it, and it is too "young". They found out how to make the image, a process used by artisans during the time the shroud was found. No physical proof for anything? So pixies, ogres and flying teapots are perfectly valid? PREPOSTEROUS!! If you believe that, then you are narrow minded not to believe in anything I posit. I claim the universe was created by a green sneezing monster. You must believe this, by your own rules. Rethink your claims.
@trekgeek1 Some scientists believe the shroud was made centuries after 33 A.D., still they hold no basic evidence for that. "Artisans"? and what technique did those artisans use to paint the shroud? crayons perhaps? sorry but most scientist have agreed that they simply don't know how that image was done and you're just making things up without even backing up with evidence. It's ok if by pixies, ogres, flying teapots and green sneezing monster you mean God, you can call Him however you want.
Even if the image methods are not 100% known, it is known with 95% accuracy that the shroud is dated to about 1200 A.D. Also, is there a picture of jesus? Even IF the shroud was proven to be from the right time, what makes you so sure that it is the image of Jesus? It could be the image of some jewish man from the same era. Anyway, respond by private messages since I don't want to clutter up the comment section. More than one creator is irrational? That is an unsupported claim. Why?
@kaiyno I think you're wrong in the point that Sagan didn't believe in some sort of deity - he just didn't believe in any kind of god that had been developed by people on Earth as kind of an idea who "the Creator" might be. I am pretty sure Sagan would have agreed with anyone if they said that the universe may have been created, but he would have not made any speculations whatsoever concerning this "creators" name, origin, mind-set, appearance, motives, etc.
@BenHeffernan You're right, I shouldn't have said that about Sagan, guess I generalized that. The important thing is not let our mind get in the way of our heart. The relationship we have with the Creator can only be a feeling experience, just like love is.
@kaiyno I am glad I could be useful in you finding the next step to truth :) Actually, science most of the time really doesn't dismiss the concept of a creator. Generally, physicians are certain about the Big Bang, but whatever triggered the events leading to the Big Bang is still unknown to them - and the elegance of the cosmos gives most of them the notion that there might have been a creating force behind it all. BUT that is subject to mere speculation, which is not the way to enlightenment.
@kaiyno No, it was a poor and unintelligent attempt to draw similarities between science and religion. I felt the same thing as bluhoiusworker stated: it was a great film but marred partly by the whole "be tolerant with religious people, they may seem dumb but you may find yourself in a similar situation" idea. There was nothing in the movie indicating that Zemeckis believes in god, he just obviously believes that you should accept other people's views. Religion detriments progress.
@ShockTherapist007 LOL u just can't stand that physical evidence isn't necessary to prove something is true, sorry but that's how things r and ur dumb arguments won't change that fact. I think Zemeckis wanted to show that Sagan's views were mislead by the notion of physical proof, is not that it shouldn't be considered, is not requiered for an absolute truth. Oh and u should give physical proof that religion is based on "ignorance" before u start yapping, since u r the one demanding proof.
@kaiyno 1) There WAS physical evidence in the end of the movie. Remember that? 2) The physical evidence of religion based on ignorance is you, kayono, because you're an ignorant speaker substituting childish insults and retarded remarks like "thats how things are" for arguments. You're either a lower-schooler or completely lack skills of logic dispute. Fortunately you religious people are a breed that's dying out thanks to your willful idiocy.
@ShockTherapist007 1) There IS physical evidence for God (Shroud of Turin) which isn't necessary because God wants his creation to believe in Him only through faith. 2) Can't believe you get so defensive about this civil discussion, and again, since u demand physical evidence for everything then give some that God isn't real.
@kaiyno Look god isn't real just like Santa Claus, gremlins, or underground demons. They're myths and fairy tales. Most modern people move past that bullshit around lower school, but some like yourself (mental retardation of some sort?) like willfully dumbing themselves down so much that they continue to base their world view on legends and superstitions. They don't develop skills like logic or rationality, which is evident from talking to u. u can't even grasp the point of my statements.
I loved this movie and loves this scene. Religion and science, two different methods of trying to answer the same question. And this clip demonstrates that brilliance in that if you didn't know Jodie Foster was a scientist you might think she is talking about a religious experience instead, and you can almost see McConaughey's character thinking the exact same thing.
I enjoy the end scene where the audiologist says "She recorded 23 minutes of it." ( In referrence to static ) Can anyone help me find that scene-might be near to credit roll at end of the film.
I like the movie but this is nothing but religious propaganda. I don't have the mistaken belief that she became theist. But this scene clearly tries to signal that faith in god is justified because there are other subjective experiences that can't be proven. Don't get me wrong. Theism is justified on a personal level. But correlating theism with this repeatable space travel experience is just silly. Especially because theists can't agree on anything. Most of them are bound to be delusional.
@villeppi But that is cleared up when Michael and Rachel have a conversation over webcam. Rachel states that Ellie actually did have evidence for her experience -18 hours of static.
@Tengent Yes I remember that scene. But I wouldn't say it cleared up anything. The people who made this movie had clearly troubles deciding what they were trying to tell us. Why did they make this scene, which has a pro-religion message, if they were going to debunk the message by revealing that there was evidence after all?
KORAN Sura 32 Ayat 5 "He regulates the affair from the heaven to the earth; then shall it ascend to Him in a day the measure of which is a thousand years of what you count." Subhanallah!
I love the idea of this movie, and it has many great scenes! But Matthew McConaughey as a religious and wise man? Come on, who casted him for this part? That's one of the worse casting jobs ever!
@onedeadcat , atheist = ignorant dumbfuck that dosent know that an entity can be proven with logic.
Dna (patern/language/code etc) patterns, language or codes, whatever...can only come from A MIND/COUNCIOUSNESS PROOF THERE IS SOMETHING WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
is all about the xpierence no one can share it unless others are ready open for new xpierences otherwise is like talkin to rock solid matter it will just bounce off & hit you in the face ' if you choose to believe is because you have xpierence this & when you don't is cus you havent
& so on some people is destine not to expierence the god nature they havent fullfill thier circles of life yet they jouney is not over this why you have to pray for them till all are one again
@LVskywalker you rigth but only cause i wrote tu much shitf anywat carl sagan is gone in to anothers dimention but the new end opinion should matters to the living
now cause we got so liltle time to decide in wich dimention in wich to end up'
Its pathetic to you because you're just a brainwashed bible nut who likes feel good stories. Read what I wrote and ask yourself if its true. Will you ever accept evidence that God doesn't exist?
@onedeadcat If atheists are waiting for a postcard from God they're never going to get it. You think those of us who do believe in God have a photo of the 2 of us together? "Evidence" of the sort you mean is counter to the notion of the Divine as something profound & fundamentally beyond human understanding.
Rationality is not theonly way to access the universe & what you can see and touch can be very misleading as to the true nature of reality.
So you take comfort in believing in the unverifiable and paying money to people who claim to have spoken to said unverifiable.
Here's a soiled piece of toilet paper. If you put it by your nose for 10 seconds every Sunday morning, you will live longer. If you die early, its the devil. If something weird happens, the toilet works in mysterious ways. But just believe in it. It loves you.
@onedeadcat No one needs an intermediary to talk to God.
Your contempt for all spirituality -- along with your total lack of understanding -- is sad to see. Also, you are very much in the minority on this planet. Most scientists also have religious beliefs of some stripe, since the two are not in opposition to each other.
And by the way, adults don't call other adults names because they differ. Doing so makes YOU look like an idiot, my friend.
@MrDasmaster No, being in the minority doesn't make him wrong. His complete lack of a basis for his contempuous animosity towards all forms of spirituality makes him wrong.
And it's not a lie. Most scientists grow up in a religous tradition, and as people who have reverence for logic, are not prone to chuck an entire aspect of the human experience because some of it is inexplicable or difficult to understand.
@zammmerjammer Adults do lots of things. You're not my friend. Spirituality is contemptible. It is the hallmark of a weak and feeble mind. This is the 21st century--metaphysics and cartesian dualism have no place in reasonable discussion.
This is exactly how mankind is, and we will never move on if it continues like this! Only a few Humans will succede in the future to improve Humanity, and I am one of them. I have made it my sole duty in my life to acquire immortality to live long enough to see mankind's improvements and meet intelligent civilizations. Mankind tries to solve everything with religion, but that's never works does it? I know the few out there will help us all in the future, but that wont be for a while.
Stupid situation for a genius, but if an event will happen it will result like this. What a pity mankind, they could not thing logical and objectively, they can't do anything without religion.
i apreciate that everyone is a fan of the movie and givin their point of views to why the movie was right or wrong in some area;s, but i think your missing the point about the movie it isnt about space nor the fact she got to travel to see her "old dad"
its about her finally findin herself again and apreciating life for what its worth. no matter how small or big. having faith that we are all here for a reason and we are all special in on our on way."i wish i can share that with you." =)
@jay6sd Thank you for your take on it. This, from the moment I saw it in the theaters at age 10 has been the greatest movie I have ever seen. I read all Sagan's books since and because of him, I am the writer I am today and I went into my Master's with the hope of being all I could. I plan on getting my Phd soon as well. I graduate Magna at 21 with my B.A. just like Sagan.
done, and this movie show me where individual living experience vs individual beliefs made mist understanding events in this wolrd. sry 4 my english. i hope you understand anyways...
absolutely right @lordtyrannus what i dont understand is, why is she under trial? i mean why r they trying to prove her wrong so hard? cant they see how freaked out she was? i doubt even the most calculating liar is that good
Wow, lots of terrible arguments going on here. It's really too bad. Just enjoy the clip. This story is thoughtful, touching, and negates neither science nor religion. It's about humanity and its search for the truth.

There's the evidence you asked for.
ivlfounder 5 months ago
@ivlfounder That is a presupposition. The whole effect of evolution is for a living organism to adapt to the environment it finds itself in. Taking scientific findings and then misrepresenting them to further your delusional beliefs is wilful ignorance at best, at worst its total dishonesty. Are you a liar or an idiot? @ivlfounder He is not talking about the universe as a whole at that point, he mentions certain aspects of it yes, but when looking at the amount of chaos and destruction that is visible to us and the simple fact that most of the surface of this planet would kill us pretty fast its a little foolish to say it is designed. And when Hawking said it had the appearance of design , he was right, it does in some ways. But he also knows that statement is a biased one. cont...

Everything in the movie is unrealistic and stupid. The moral/message is simple minded and dumb. "We are special HUR HUR HUR."

Dad/alien has no idea about it just keeping the space-post at VEGA hoping 'them' to return.

ShockTherapist007 1 year ago
@ShockTherapist007 You shouldn't hate them for it. Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing, or a belief that is not based on proof. In religion, faith is a belief in a transcendent reality (off limits to material measurement and scientific inquiry such as falsifiability and reproducibility). The concept of faith is a broad one.

I enjoy this film but the problem I have with it is how a god plays any kind of role in explaining her experience. The god explanation for our existence or the existence of life at all isn't in the spirit of Sagan, so for that I was disappointed. It's very entertaining though.
bluhousworker 1 year ago
@bluhousworker God simply let her go her own naive way and when she saw that she had no proof about her experience in Vega, she realized what is to be God and not be believed. Director Robert Zemeckis intention with this scene was to prove wrong Sagan's narrow perspective. Don't be dissapointed, atonement was given to those confused, thanks to this scene and to this amazing film.

bluhousworker 1 year ago
@kaiyno
Except it was an alien in this movie, not a god. She also had evidence in the recording device which recorded hours of static. The movie was Sagans, Zemeckis just put imagery to it. Maybe you have the narrow perspective. Sagan never had a narrow perspective, he valued the mysteries of the universe.
trekgeek1 1 year ago
@trekgeek1 She never knew of that evidence and that is irrelevant. I can say that there's physical proof of God's existance with the Turin Shroud, which scientists can't understand how Jesus' image was plasmated into the shroud. The point is that no one should demand physical evidence of anything to prove something real or not. I meant Sagan had a narrow vision of God because he denied His existance and he demanded physical proof, very irrational and naive of him.
kaiyno 1 year ago
@kaiyno
Rethink your claims.
trekgeek1 1 year ago
@trekgeek1 Some scientists believe the shroud was made centuries after 33 A.D., still they hold no basic evidence for that. "Artisans"? and what technique did those artisans use to paint the shroud? crayons perhaps? sorry but most scientist have agreed that they simply don't know how that image was done and you're just making things up without even backing up with evidence. It's ok if by pixies, ogres, flying teapots and green sneezing monster you mean God, you can call Him however you want.
kaiyno 1 year ago
@kaiyno
Why?
trekgeek1 1 year ago
@trekgeek1 There can only be one creator, no more, that's rational, and you can call him however you want, commonly He is called God by most people.
kaiyno 1 year ago
@kaiyno I think you're wrong in the point that Sagan didn't believe in some sort of deity - he just didn't believe in any kind of god that had been developed by people on Earth as kind of an idea who "the Creator" might be. I am pretty sure Sagan would have agreed with anyone if they said that the universe may have been created, but he would have not made any speculations whatsoever concerning this "creators" name, origin, mind-set, appearance, motives, etc.
BenHeffernan 1 year ago
@BenHeffernan You're right, I shouldn't have said that about Sagan, guess I generalized that. The important thing is not let our mind get in the way of our heart. The relationship we have with the Creator can only be a feeling experience, just like love is.
kaiyno 1 year ago
@kaiyno I am glad I could be useful in you finding the next step to truth :) Actually, science most of the time really doesn't dismiss the concept of a creator. Generally, physicians are certain about the Big Bang, but whatever triggered the events leading to the Big Bang is still unknown to them - and the elegance of the cosmos gives most of them the notion that there might have been a creating force behind it all. BUT that is subject to mere speculation, which is not the way to enlightenment.
BenHeffernan 1 year ago
@kaiyno No, it was a poor and unintelligent attempt to draw similarities between science and religion. I felt the same thing as bluhoiusworker stated: it was a great film but marred partly by the whole "be tolerant with religious people, they may seem dumb but you may find yourself in a similar situation" idea. There was nothing in the movie indicating that Zemeckis believes in god, he just obviously believes that you should accept other people's views. Religion detriments progress.
ShockTherapist007 1 year ago
@ShockTherapist007 LOL u just can't stand that physical evidence isn't necessary to prove something is true, sorry but that's how things r and ur dumb arguments won't change that fact. I think Zemeckis wanted to show that Sagan's views were mislead by the notion of physical proof, is not that it shouldn't be considered, is not requiered for an absolute truth. Oh and u should give physical proof that religion is based on "ignorance" before u start yapping, since u r the one demanding proof.
kaiyno 1 year ago
@kaiyno 1) There WAS physical evidence in the end of the movie. ShockTherapist007 1 year ago

@bluecrabsandsushi2 No, contempt is contemptible, and you display it with skill.
Sorry you don't hesitate to eliminate me as a friend -- your loss.

I am of the future!

I know the few out there will help us all in the future, but that wont be for a while.

i can hear Carl talking through Jodie. All you need is the theme from Cosmos and it's perfect!
