'White' is a term used for Europeans with the lightest of skin, often followed by diversity of hair/eye color. White is based on skin pigment alone, it is aesthetic and doesn't pretend to be anything else. White is not a race, white is not an ethnic group and thus not an ethnicity.

There's a easy way to pigeon-hole someone if you're into that, and it's to identify their accent and where they grew up - after all, how else can culture reproduce itself other than through schools. I personally identify myself by other things - including my diet, my politics, plus my interests and pastimes. To my mind large group identities - such as nation (eg. I'm "African-American" and I just prefer being called "black". I think the term "African-American" is a mouthful and sounds overly politically correct. The term "black" is just a descriptive term, like "white" or "brown". The uploader definitely has a point, all of these descriptive terms are pretty convoluted and artificial when you think about it. Even though I'm called "black" I've seen a lot of people from India who are definitely darker-skinned than me but still called "brown".
Indians aren't Asian, there are too many different races of Indians to describe them all as one, they are largely Caucasian by anthropology and Asian only by location.
The dark Indians are from the south and largely descend mainly from Dravidian's, where as White Caucasoid Indians are from the North and North-West particularly.

The labels have probably just developed that way because of this language; to native English people who have pale/translucent skin, Orientals do appear unusually tanned because there is so much more pigment in their skin. White people just see their skin as pale because its translucent where as all other races have more colour in theirs naturally, without having to sunbathe to get it. Here's the difference between African American and Black that I've heard from people of African ancestry. Black refers to people who's families have been living in America for generations, presumably brought as slaves or descended from slaves, while African American refers to someone who is a first or second generation immigrant.

The colours are just classifications, not actual skin colour. Yellow is a classification for the mongoloid race from which all East asian orientals are derived. Perhaps they get topographical inspiration from river names, such as Huang He which (yellow river), which is not actually yellow. Or common surname. Or from key names such as Albedo (white), Nigredo (black) which is, btw, where n!gger is etymologically derived from latin roots. Even compass directions can be colour coded.

I'm East Indian/Black mixed even though I identify racially as black since I look black. My ethnicity is Jamaican/West Indian/Afro-Caribbean. Back in the days, Asians (E.A. and S.E.A.) were called Yellow, Mongoloid, and Oriental. It's now often considered derogatory, and racist. I just simply use the term East Asian, that's it. Btw Hispanic/Latino is not a race, it's a culture. Any race can be Hispanic even Asians (E.A. and S.E.A.). Most of them live in Brazil and Peru.
I am actually caucaisan, but i do have a yellow+olive undertone (it has been called yellow by many store women and also by cosmeticians; olive because I have mediterranean roots), you can notice this only in the summer, in winter I am very pale.Also I have noticed that a foundation with a lil yellow undertone suited me much more, than others. Bollywood is dominated by the best of Indians from the north regions, right? They look like a mix between Middle Eastern and Mediterranean. The term 'white' was invented by European-Americans who wanted to segregate themselves from African-Americans.

'Far East Asian' doesn't really a race either because North asians (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) are differnt race from South East Asian (filipino, Vietnamese, Cambodia, etc.) and most South East Asians are BROWN. Idk why you have a problem with that =S south east asians seem to wish to be north it seems. Anyway, anyone from any country/race can have yellow undertoned or pink undertoned, just with asians (including arabic/middle east) more likely have yellow, and white europeans more have pink..

The labels have probably just developed that way because of this language; to native English people who have pale/translucent skin, Orientals do appear unusually tanned because there is so much more pigment in their skin. White people just see their skin as pale because its translucent where as all other races have more colour in theirs naturally, without having to sunbathe to get it. I'm speaking generally here, I am aware there are exceptions. **I greatly hope I didn't offend anyone there!**

Here's the difference between African American and Black that I've heard from people of African ancestry. The colours are just classifications, not actual skin colour. Yellow is a classification for the mongoloid race from which all East asian orientals are derived. Perhaps they get topographical inspiration from river names, such as Huang He which (yellow river), which is not actually yellow. Or common surname. Or from key names such as Albedo (white), Nigredo (black) which is, btw, where n!gger is etymologically derived from latin roots. Even compass directions can be colour coded.

There is only one race on this world and it's human. Both myself and my sister are mixed race (White English and Black Caribbean), but my skin colour is different to hers. I'm lighter skinned, whereas she is darker.

@TheLemonLily ivory is a more accurate terms, but nobody uses it. Yellow is the color of the sun and the sun on my user icon, It just does not resemble my skin. But there is sometimes light that makes one look yellow, no matter what race you are.

@kittybitty24 - Olive (beige) is mostly accurate for East Asians. Olive is cool and earthy complexion. There is no such thing as Ivory human skin, its a fabrication i think.

@LittleDirtyBlonde23 For a very long time people around the Mediterranean (Italians, Greek) were said to be olive skinned. I'm not sure if people still use that.

@spacecowboy5000 Olive is a real distinguishable skin color with different shades lighter/darker, people still use the concept today, as it is very much real, duh! Olive/Beige type skin with Greenish-yellowish-brownish color. So called ivory skin is indeed made up! The fashionable word today for Southern Europeans is now - MUDS.

@spacecowboy5000 The natural fair/pale skin of white women has a very bright complexion and can be creamy-peachy OR rosy-porcelain. Very cute and extremely feminine! Instead of the so called fair/pale skin of Asian women which is Kinda sallow with the snakebelly color. Skin with no signs of blood looks dead, not alive!

personally i call black Americans "black Americans" i dont call them 'African american" simply because there is no pan-African race by definition Caucasoid Anthropology Of or being a human racial classification distinguished especially by very light to brown skin pigmentation and straight to wavy or curly hair, and including peoples indigenous to Europe, northern Africa, western Asia, and India. that right there alone prove race is not skin color but muscular and Skeletal makeup

I'm East Indian/Black mixed even though I identify racially as black since I look black. My ethnicity is Jamaican/West Indian/Afro-Caribbean. Back in the days, Asians (E.A. and S.E.A.) were called Yellow, Mongoloid, and Oriental. It's now often considered derogatory, and racist. I just simply use the term East Asian, that's it. Btw Hispanic/Latino is not a race, it's a culture. Any race can be Hispanic even Asians (E.A. and S.E.A.). Most of them live in Brazil and Peru.

I am actually caucaisan, but i do have a yellow+olive undertone (it has been called yellow by many store women and also by cosmeticians; olive because I have mediterranean roots), you can notice this only in the summer, in winter I am very pale.Also I have noticed that a foundation with a lil yellow undertone suited me much more, than others. But I do not belive something as yellow skin tone does exist(actually it only exists as an disease),so I am on your side ^___^. P.s. I effin adore you! <3

The word "asian", it's really just there to make it easier to 'label' all the different ethnic groups within asia. Just shows how ignorant whoever came up with the word 'asian'.

I've didn't know some people are offended by 'African-American'. I thought that was the politically correct term. o_O Shows what I know.
But if anyone doesn't want to be categorized by skin color that's fine with me, as long as they reciprocate and call me Caucasian instead of white. Not that being called 'white' offends me, but if you get to call me white, I get to call you black without being chewed out.

Yeah, don't have anything profound to say but I'm a black guy and prefer black because my African roots are so far back I feel disconnected to then. But in a perfect world I'd like to simply be referred to as an American.

@xNordicPrincessx I don't have it 'wrong', and never did. Even Sayumi has olive undertone. I can see the darkness of her skin behind the heavy lighting.
Umm "ivory" isn't yellow, it's more like off-white. Google it and it will always tell you ivory is off-white, not yellow.
