  • I want to use garage band to make recording of me sing acapella, but I also want to record video of me singing it. How do I do this with garage band?

  • @Kamloops GarageBand is for audio. If you want to record video, use iMovie.

  • @macmostvideo Thanks. My daughter has a Yeti Mic and we are trying to figure out the best way to record video with sound on her mac book air. So far we are not doing well. See other video that look and sound so good with people singing, are they using i movie. How do they get the sound so good. - Thanks for any advice you can give. Is there some way to combine video with garage-band?

  • @Kamloops Not familiar with that Mic, but the sound recording should be the same whether it is GarageBand, iMovie or something else.

  • How do you change the pitch of the video soundtrack in GarageBand?

  • @xdaichiix Just add the correct effect to the track. I think it is AUPitch or something like that.

  • @macmostvideo Thanks, I'll try it!

  • how do you crop the movie?

  • @MrNerdGaming1 Using the crop tool. Select the clip in the project area and press C.

  • @macmostvideo Thanks i will try that :) i will tell you how it goes :)

  • @macmostvideo How do you accept it so it crops?

  • @MrNerdGaming1 Search for "cropping" in the iMovie help. It shows you.

  • @macmostvideo i dont want to use imovie?

  • @MrNerdGaming1 Is that a question or a statement? What would you like to know?

  • @macmostvideo I would like to know can you crop thing on GarageBand and how? By crop i mean the video side of it not audio. Also once you are ready to crop do you just press a button and it deletes it?

  • @MrNerdGaming1 No, you can't do any video editing in GarageBand. You can only edit the audio track of a video. To crop the video you need to use a video editor, like iMovie.

  • Hi Gary,

My problem is when i make the final mix in garage band the exported audio is not really high in volume. However, when i use the audio as soundtrack in IMOVIE,I can really raise the volume and the exported sound is loud enough. Is there a way to rip a music from imovie project and have it back to garage band?tnx

  • @parkingcap Dont do it that way. Instead, use the Master Track to increate the volume on your GarageBand project. Look for "Show Master Track" in the menus.

  • smart like it

  • what version of garage band are you using?

  • @qwerty123554 This video is from October, 2009. So it would have been GarageBand from iLife 09.

  • @macmostvideo thanks

  • Hi there, I am making an audition video by recording myself singing with my digital camera but recording my voice with my microphone and then superimposing the recorded audio over the video. I just wanted to know how to make sure the format is MP4, MPG or MOV when I export it as these are the requirements for submission. Cheers, Talia

  • @taliootz You get to choose options when you export. Are you exporting from iMovie or GarageBand?

  • @macmostvideo Thanks for the reply. I'm exporting from iMovie...

  • @taliootz In iMovie just use Share, Export Movie. Then you can choose custom settings from there and make sure you are using the format you want. Or, just use one of the default settings. Note that .m4v format is .mp4 format (just change the file name extension when done if that is a requirement).

  • @taliootz Thankyou so much for your help. I'm just finishing up editing it now and then I will try and export it the way you have told me. Cheers for all your help!! :) Talia

  • but how do u do that ?? help please

  • @Cfc1888Conor See episode 468.

  • can u put in a song but still hear people in the backround please help !!

  • @Cfc1888Conor Sure. Just adjust the volumes of each piece of audio to your liking.

  • can you get garageband on windows if i have quicktime?

  • @lggify No. GarageBand is a Mac application.

  • I made exactly what you explained in this video, except that I edited the video many times after sound editing stage, and what I was doing is re-importing (dragging) the video from Media Library over the existed one and choose yes when it asks for replace.

After finishing, I exported the movie from GB to my disk as Full Quality Movie. However, when I've uploaded the movie here to Youtube just a while ago, the movie got encoded without the GarageBand modifications. Could you please direct me?

  • @ailasketches It sounds like it exported the soundtrack in an additional layer of sound and then YouTube didn't recognize that layer. Post-process the video using QuickTime X (export as a flattened movie) or I would recommend MPEGStreamClip to shrink the file size some more.

  • @macmostvideo SInce I didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard yet, I don't have Quick Time X. So I've used MPEGStreamClip and it did a good job. The video is here now as it was made. Thanks!

  • You are my hero Gary.

  • how do you put different iMovie clips onto Garage Band? I am trying to do a podcast and i am trying to put the music and speech after the video clips and then add more imovie clips right after the music. Help please? thanks.

  • @promathia1 You wouldn't use GarageBand for that. Use iMovie. GarageBand is only for editing the soundtrack of a complete video. If you still need to add more video, then do that in iMovie. You can also add multiple audio tracks in iMovie, so it may be that you don't need GarageBand at all.

  • Quick question, and this is for anyone reading this (I really need the help). I know you can take an iMovie video and put it in Garageband, but can you put a Garageband song into iMovie and make a lip-synch music video (ie like MTV videos do). Thanks for ANY help anyone reading this can give, even if you just know of some online tutorials I can check out.

  • @mrcross2020 Sure. There's no trick to it. Just export your music out of GarageBand and then drag and drop it into iMovie to use as a soundtrack. Is that what you mean?

  • @macmostvideo Thanks for the tip, but so far I've hit a wall. Yes, iMovie will let me import a garageband song into the storyboard area, but it won't let me add video (lip synch) to a pre-existing garageband song. I need to figure out how to get iMovie to film me "live" while lipsynching to a pre-existing garageband song. I've seen people on youtube take garageband songs and add "still" photos with iMovie, but that's not what I want to do. I want to make low-budget music videos. Any suggestions?

  • @mrcross2020 I think you are taking the wrong approach. Film the video with the song playing in the background (boom box or computer speakers, whatever) so you can lip sync to it. Film portions or do several takes. Then, edit the video together with the sound in the background. When done, mute the sound in all the clips and add the real song.

  • @macmostvideo Hi again, and thanks for the idea about filming the video portion first. It sounds like it might be tough to align the video and audio if I shoot the video portion first, then add the song later, but it's a great idea and worth a try. So iMovie isn't capable of doing the garageband song audio first, followed by the video part by iMovie? By the way, I really appreciate your quick replies to my newbie questions!

  • @mrcross2020 I don't think any video editing software will do it the way you want. But by having the song playing in the background, you can keep the timing perfect.

  • @macmostvideo I'm going to give your idea a try, so cross your fingers for me and thanks a billion for your help! You're great to help me like this, and I really appreciate the favor.

  • @mrcross2020 You may want to search for "how to make lip sync videos" and see what other people have done before you try it.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. I've been trying to figure out how to pull up that Volume Line for sooo long. So nice how you can just pull the line up or down. You're my savior lol

  • wow man thanks. You helped a lot.

  • you the man gary

  • apple just made a new imac. i just bought the old one. fml

  • Thanks, Gary!

  • Gary rocks. Makes me wanna buy some apple...

  • thanks! This video is awesome!

  • wow, thanks, i was just trying to figure out how to adjust the volume in imovie video editing.
