Hi, I'm from Argentina and I can understand 90% or 95%. I Speak Spanish and it sounds like Italian to me. Maybe it's because Interlingua's heart is Latin. Whatever, I like Interlingua. I have no problem with it. :)
i'm french. It's a bit weird to understand so much in a language you have never heared before! Maybe i should envisage learning spanish or italian...:)
Very nice to hear this beautiful language put to use. :)
There is a "concrete" methodology of pronunciation, yet as Interlingua is intended to be used by speakers of various languages and accents, no real accent can be said to exist.
I think its not the number of speakers that matters but the cultur...for me u get more cultur learning a native american language then to learn spanish...not that I speak a native language, just saying
for example if people do a larp but where only languages from lord of the rings is accepted then its good to learn but languages like esperanto have no real cultur
Just some white people u think they are unique because few people can understand them
I think Esperantists would agree that Esperanto is "culturally neutral". But, if you consider languages from "Lord of the Rings" as having a "real culture", you should admit that Esperanto also has one, because there are worldwide hospitality and tourism networks using Esperanto as their language.
I speak English fluently and have some kind of working ability in French and I understood most of that, I think. But I agree with the one guy that it felt odd.
I also agree with the people who say this can't work as a world language -- it basically favours those who can speak Romance languages and screws everyone else. Esperanto would be harder for me personally to learn but it is more of a happy medium for the Western countries as a whole (afaik).
Sure it's probably a good language.. but I speak English and Dutch and the text didn't make sense to me at all.. I think it's easy to learn for those who speak Roman languages, but it isn't useful at all for the rest of the Europian countries.
Here is a good way for a Spanish speaker to learn Interlingua. Read one or two issues of Panorama, a brief Interlingua magazine. If you dont know a word, look it up in an Interlingua-Spanish dictionary. You could probably use an ordinary Spanish dictionary, since Interlingua and Spanish are so similar. Soon, you will be looking up very few words. You can subscribe (abonar) to Panorama at the UMI website. Just do a search for Union Mundial pro Interlingua and it should come up.
interlingua is also very similar to french (which makes sense cuz french and spanish are very similar)...which means that I'm able to understand a large part of what is being said, since im a french-canadian bilingual in english and french, and I'm learning spanish
If you speak Interlingua, you can talk to people who speak Spanish, Italian, French, or any other Romance language and they'll understand you - that's 600,000,000 people already, counting only the Romance languages. According to some authors, Interlingua takes only a week to learn. I actually learned it in less than a week - light studying in the evening. Then, you can learn several languages in about half the time.
I'd probably agree - some speakers won't talk back to you if they can't pick the language you're speaking, so they're more likely to respond to someone speaking something they know of (e.g. Italian) than something like interlingua.
I don't know what you try to say with 'we all'. I've learned Interlingua and I'm not a robot. Don't you know what study means? If you learn spanish or french then you only can talk whit those wo speak spanish and french. But if you learn Interlingua you'll talk with lots of people around the world, but it cost obviously

Why don't you just learn Spanish instead so you can talk to 300,000,000 people instead of 100 language nerds?
