i have fallen in love with song mouzi eventhough i do not understand what he is saying but the guy singing makes it so easy going and so charming that my ass wouid have been up dancing right infront of him to show him that he is good . great son thanks for posting . we cannot stop enjoying them.
@edithfotoh Ntesa Nzitani (Daniel) "Dalienst" was a one of greatest vocalists from Zaire. It is worth checking out his solo recordings and prior to that his work with the bands Vox Africa and Festival des Maquisards. Dalienst's solo record "Belalo" made Number Four on prestigious Rock critic Robert Christgau's Dean's List for 1990. Quite an honor given the fact that most American critics don't pay much attention to Congolese Rumba.
@edithfotoh I will translate it for you the whole song .email me at mamba587@yahoo.com so I can email you the translation once I done translating in couple of day....
for along time i thot the singer was Josky. till i saw this video. TPOK still rocks
@dpisceslady...the Congolese (audience) aren't bored .this is African rhumba and it is enjoyable if you just sit back and listen. the much you can do is nod in appreciation
yeah! kind of weird - it is partly because of the tv studio context but even at concerts they stand looking as if they were bored and it takes hours for them to start dancing. Still they dance nicely when they start.
@dpisceslady it used to be a tv show destined also to the audience at home not a kind of concert. used to be every saturday from 1976. the audience must stay sit as cameras wanted to get decent footages for public at home and archives
That has to be hard to do. I'm sorry but this audience look like they are politely sitting by, they are chewing gum, chatting and looking around like they are BORED. There is NO WAY I would be able to keep my ass still!
Thanks for posting. This just remind me of the good time we have had back then. The video is one of the rarest one. In the meantime we are enjoying it until someone posts a much better sound quality. Thanks for the memories. I never memorized the real title. Muzzi is enough to recognize the song.
its so nice to have people who bring us this old videos and for me it is very specialm because im not from that time, i like this type of music because my mother listens to it, and i learnd to like it too, pls keep posting
Exactly, I'm not from that generation either, but my parents always love to listen to these old tunes and I have grown to love them too. TPOK Jazz has to be one of the greatest bands of the 20th century.
I especially like from 7:05 to7:20 when one of the horn players is trying to get the attention of the conductor and trying to let him know that the pace of the guitars and the singing is off beat. He later flashes a smile and nods his head when the sound comes together. That's what i call "music concious".This is so good for good music lovers.
Kowino, you have a very good point...Tabu Ley is great maybe better but franco had charisma, and most of all was very funny on stage. Once you like him like that...
Kindu or rahndi, would someone tell me what boma ngai is all about and pesa position, one dude promised me the lyrics but he hasnt them i'm dying for the translation or just a synopsis of some of these songs just to know what they were all about. Franco was a genius why lie,i love music and the composition of his music was just amazing, i know music very well and to me music is composition but i gave him 100% on his composition. Now i'm dying to get to know what he was talking about please help
Very good Rhumba- however the sound is a live version, not studio quality. Very good effort by Ntessa Dalienst (RIP)and his team on this song, as always. Somebody must have forced this audience not to dance- It would be impossible to stay seated through such a great experience!
Kindu, I'm on board-- Franco was a genius... Who coulda seen it coming? I mean back in the mid 50s he was just this little boy playing for De Wayon. That was way back then, when Leopoldville was one of the best places to be on earth.
pierro 28 does not know anything about tp ok and the othe greats of african music, thus his comment on the audience.long live african music fromthe 50s to late 80s
Tabu Ley is much better, his music has style and variation, and very dancable, I must admit. Franco (RIP) was domineering in his music, rhythm was monotonous and songs too long. Howeever, whenever Franco was absent in a set, the TPOK music was superb, like "Mouzi" here.
You DONT know what you're talking about. There is no African musician that can equal FRANCO in musical repetoire. Have u come on here to create division? Just because you BELIEVE that Tabu Ley's music was MORE danceable than Franco's, it means Tabu Ley was much better? Have you an EAR for music? Can you UNDERSTAND lingala ( there the lyrics)? I should HOPE so, - at least that way I'll give more credibility to your criticism.
Yes, I undestand Lingala, have hundreds of Franco & Tabu Ley songs; have had time to do side-by-side comparisons. As I said, the TPOK band was phenomenal- look at Ntesa Dalienst, Simaro, Josky, Pepe Ndombe, Madilu; they were a study in great Music. Everytime I have made a similar comment about Franco, his fans go mad. Fact is, the guy was a spoiler in the band, I wish he stayed on the guitars and shut up as his boys did what they knew best. That is my considered opinion, and I stand by it. Best
The audience is made up of a bunch of over fed rich people who know nothing about life. They could afford the concert but they do not respect the talent of the artists.
You are right apart from a few people the audience is STUPID!! But hey the guys are good. This is not my generation, my dad plays them all the time and we dance ... gives me goose pimples
Hi all TPOK fans. Anybody can tell me the song " ILUNGA YA CHERRY" if not mistaken was a big hit in ealry 80, what is the tittle? I'm badly looking for it. Thanx in advance.
Ntesa Dalienst, one of the best vocalists in Africa. Thanks for posting this video. And thanks to VOK's (now KBC) DJs in Nairobi for having promoted this music in Kenya in the 80's
Okay everyone I just discovered that all this great sound is available here and I swear that if I don't control myself I will get fired. Anyway remember Tupac's quote about jewels being handed to an innocent child, well, I think that the people present in the studio didn't know that they were in the midst of a miracle or at least something that almost all of us would go to any length to attend. I bet that if anyone of you was there then you would be breaking it down like there was no kesho
You are right - there is an even hotter version of this on one of those "En Colere" CDs - but nevertheless this is probably the best Franco video clip I've seen. Ya Ntesa Dalienst - wonderful!

I hate to play devil's advocate just for the sake of standing on a soap box. Perhaps they are not Europeanized but simply considerate, well-behaved Africans from the Congo in a TV studio. The fact they don't wear their emotions on their sleeves adds to the intimacy of the performance. I wish u were there to see even Police gave up and danced along with us into the stadium across the brought down wall. Maltitude of Humanity, dancing to one man's voice! FRANCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ehhhhh!!!
No shit!! I was there too. And I paid to get in. Y'all scared Franco and he got hurried away I think sooner than he had planned. Was a wild afternoon, wasn't it?.
Oh my! Madilu is gone? Thanks brother Wawaria for the headsup. I'll pass the word on to the the small group of TP OK fans here in Vancouver. My condolences to all. Peace brother!

Botela akamati mokano alobi te aboyi nga, nakosala nini lokola ....tika lelo namema ngambo...etc.
It'd be a great help if anyone can give a clue about that great song. Ghislain
