I really liked this movie. Believable acting, good storyline, well scripted, strong message. I loved the saucy bantering between Stephen and Linda( like when she kept calling him a tart) , the quips, the depth of emotion, the attitude and the untested strength (not necessarily physical) of stephen, his mother and others. Engaging and moving (especially stephen's speech..I teared up..lol), this movie gets an A+ from me.

I'm glad that Steven didn't end up with him. But the romance was sort of doomed from the start. We sort of knew what kind of guy John was from the beginning. He was scared and humiliated by who he was or who he was truly attracted to. Steven is going to go and he deserves better.

It's the very first time I have ever seen this movie, and it is so remarkably portrayed when he stands up in front of everyone announcing his homosexuality, I would never have had such bravery in me when I was his age back in the 90s, it was so much more difficult back then. Terrific film indeed!

What an splendid film and I truly found the ending inspiring, even if others may think of it as depressing; it's a perfect departure from the usual "high school sweethearts hook up for life" because it shows that Steven has matured and that the whole world is out there for him. John helped him through this process, but he sadly stayed behind. Whether they will meet again or Steven will find his true love is irrelevant - he is truly happy with who he is now and he is going to live his own life.
